I know I've got time still, but just wondered when to cut the cake. I have asked evening guests to arrive from 7pm, as First Dance will start at 7.30, followed by a dance with my sister to replace Father/Daughter dance, then guests can join us. Our evening buffet will be served from 8ish, so I was thinking of cutting the cake while staff get buffet out in the other room, so everybody would come to the main room and watch us cutting cake, take photos, etc. Or is it better to cut the cake before first dance and not bother if all evening guests have arrived.
As it is a big cake, I thought he'd be better that way then staff can take the cake away to fully cut it, as I don't expect to have to fully cut the cake myself.

I will be cutting my cake at the wedding breakfast. But if your saving for the evening do then I think do it before the first dance.

We are doing ours once all our evening guests have arrived just before the first dance x
but if they haven't arrived when dance is scheduled? and I don't want them to pig themselves with cake then our buffet will not be touched.

We cut ours before the 1st dance ... and before the evening guests arrived as it was suposed to be cut up and served with the evening buffet and the staff need to have time to cut it up.

We are cutting ours at the celebration party after we have made a little speech. Not having a first dance. Going to cut it all myself probably.

We are probably having ours for dessert so would be cutting well before the evening guests arrive but leaving the top tier intact so they can see how the cake looked!

We will probably cut out little top cake before the first dance. We're having cupcakes so not really a big deal for us. An we're not having a sit down meal either.

We had pics taken of a mock cutting of the cake, just before our guests arrived for the reception. We then had the meal, followed by speeches - then spent some time in our room, taking presents and cards back. We spent the evening in the hotel bar - then next day realised that the cake hadn't actually been cut lol.
As we all had to travel back home (about 130 miles) we asked the hotel to cut the cake so that guests could take it home with them. A bit untraditional but never mind lol.
At our evening reception back home, a few weeks later, we ordered another less extravagant cake - but again didn't have and 'official' cutting of the cake and this finished up getting done at the end of the night for people to take home with them. Does anything tell you that we're not really cake people??? lol

We are cutting ours at the wedding breakfast, just as soon as we are announced into the room, before sitting down to our meal. because we are not having speeches, when we cut the cake, thats when the toast will be. If we dont do it that way there wouldnt be a time that was right for the toast.
