Old is my sixpence (which I found when I was digging up our gardent!) New is my jewellery Borrowed is my perfume Blue is the little bow on the inside of my garter x
I'm largely just doing it for fun. I can't imagine putting a sixpence in my shoe!
Old: My great-aunt's garnet necklace and a pair of matching antique garnet earrings that I bought from eBay and my engagement ring which was my grandma's. New: My dress, shoes, stockings, tiara and veil. Borrowed: I'm borrowing the necklace from my mum. Blue: One of the colours on my tartan corset will be blue and a blue silk satin and ivory lace garter that I've made and that my friend is decorating with lapis lazuli... And Swarovskis on the soles of my shoes spelling out "Mrs H-H"

Me too.....i'm doing the lot. New ...dress etc. Old and borrowed....my nana's pearls and crystals which are my mums now. Blue....my garter....in Alex favourite team colours. My friend also bought me a sixpence for my shoe and a little keepsake box for after the wedding. Sorted!!

Im doing all too, but all I have so far is.. sixpence (with my dads birth year on, quite apt as he gives it to his daughter on the wedding day) my mum garter is blue (which could also be used for borrowed)
are you using one item for two of the things (like my garter could be)?

Old: The ring my late grandfather gave to me as a baby (obviously doesn't fit me, so I'm stringing it into the bouquet) New: Not decided yet... might buy a new perfume from Lush (I do love that place) Borrowed: No idea. It'll probably be a hairclip from my mum as my hair is quite unruly and she has a never ending supply of black grips. Blue: My garter
I'm not doing the sixpence in the shoe as I'm wearing open toed shoes... it might fly out!

The full wording of this popular bridal atire rhyme, which dates back to the Victorian times, is ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a silver sixpence in your shoe’. Something old refers to wearing something that represents a link with the bride’s family and her old life. Something new represents good fortune and success in the bride's new life. Something borrowed, which has already been worrn by a happy bride at her wedding, is meant to bring good luck to the marriage. Something blue datess back to biblical times when the colour blue was considered to rpresent purity and fidellity. Silver sixpence in your shoe; placing a silver sixpence in the brides left shoe is a symboll off wealth. This is not just to bring the bride financiall wealth but also wealth and hapiness and joy throughout her married life.
I'v not really had much thought about what I'm having. My mum showed me a pearl necklace that belong to my nan. My mum wore it when she got married. I'm not a pearl fan but I though maby about wearing this as my something old, as it also has that link with my family. Also I'm sure most of what I'll be wearing on the day, ie... dress, shoes, underwear etc can count as my something new. My mum also has a silver sixpence for me to put in my shoe. But no idea about my borrowed or blue yet. xx

I have thought about loads of things but cant decide it has changed constantly but thing this is my list at the mo,
OLD: My baby ID band from hospital, as I think that this is probably the first and oldest thing that I "owned" as well as my sons one. NEW: Has to be something other than my dress etc and I will buy it on the morning of the wedding. (probably a bottle of brandy!) BORROWED: My BFF's antique watch BLUE:I wanted to do something other than garter (Having said that my garter is mine & OH football team Spurs, which just happens to be blue)
sixpence - I am gonna head out to my nans shed later and see if I can find one in my grandads old money pot.
CommentAuthorKazza
Old: My sixpence which has been in the family for years. New: Dress and practically everything else. Borrowed: Veil from my sil2b. I have to say I am lucky to have a great bunch of in laws, I was offered the use of her dress too but wanted my own, that's why I agreed to borrow the veil as I didn't want to offend. Blue: Garter.
That's me pretty much sorted :) x

My mum and dad were having a clear out a few weeks ago and came across a porcelain egg coddler that was given for me as a Christening gift (obviously can't use that lol) but inside was my silver bangle and silver cross from my christening and communion...Think I'm going to try and incorporate both of those into my bouquet for my something old. Loved it!
