We started at 12K. Then researched and found everything was MUCH more expensive than we thought lol! Went to £15k, then £18k then decided we wouldn't have a budget! Everything all in (honeymoon, mini-moon, spends, everything) will end up at about £24k.

I have no problem spending what is our hard earned money on the wedding. I am getting EVERYTHING I want - I intend to only do it once! My parents have been very generous and gifted us £2k, which really helped.

I know the marriage is more important than the wedding, but I am 31 and want the day of my dreams and for me, that includes lots of extras that are not necessary. We've saved hard each month and have been planning for 16 months so we could afford everything.

when it came to booking the honeymoon, H2B had gone off the idea of Kenya but I still would love to go. take pleanty of pics.....a once in a lifetime holiday......gorgeous.

WOW reading through this and seeing what I put at the beginning of our engagement makes me laugh knowing what my budget is now lol.
    It has nearly doubled lol
But that is one reason we postponed so long, so we could get EXACTLY what we want

Venue -70 day, 100 evening, all in one place, out of season on a sunday, 2 course meal and wedding cake as dessert, bacon rolls and mini chip cones for reception and only providing hot chocolate as drinks rest a cash bar = £3k
    Car - £200
    Flowers - £350
    Chair covers etc - £500
    Suits - £400
    Jewellery -£250
Bridesmaids dresses -£80 each (only paying for two as sister paying for the other two) - £160
    Flower girl dress - £60
    Shoes - £150 (2 pairs)
    Hair - £200
    Make up - £200
    Caricturist -£400
    Trio - £300
    Sweetie/dessert buffer - £350
    DJ - £300
    Videographer -£99
    Photographer - £1200
    Rings - £650
    Gifts - £150
Cake - £0 - BEST FRIEND MAKING AS A GIFT
Dress - £0 - SISTER PAYING FOR IT

As for the big budget's I say go for it, you have the money to spare (well you know what I mean) and won't miss it then why the heck not...........I know I would if if I had it!!

Ours is looking like 14k, not including the honeymoon or dress as our parents are paying for these. That overwhelms me tbh, we'd originally thought 6k which was unrealistic for the things we want for the day. It amazes me that h2b isnt going mad about it (me thinks he has a stash somewhere that I dont know about) but I know we'll have enough to cover it and I've recently gone back to working fulltime so I dont feel like it's so much of a financial burden on h2b. We both want the same things for the day so isnt an issue although I do think sometimes we could have had a nice wedding and a new car for the amount on money we'll be spending on one day x

Wow after reading this thread sounds like I really need some tips. My budget started at 20k and is looking like it will be more like 25k. Both sets of parents are giving 4k each. But we have really struggled keeping to what we'd set. I thought I'd done really well with things like catering its costing £18 a head for a 3 option 3 course meal. Where am I going wrong? xx

This is for 56 day guests, welcome drink of champagne after ceremony which will be held there, 3 course wedding breakfast, 1/2 bottle of wine per head with the meal, glass of sparkling wine for toasts, light evening buffet (bacon & sausage baps, cheeseboard and crackers & 4 items of our choice)
That also includes our evening guests at an estimated number of 70

Our budget is 22000, started at 21000. We didn't think we'd be spending this much, and hadn't set a budget before we started looking at venues. We ended up spending 17,500 on the venue, food and drink. You only get to do something like this once and we wanted ALL our friends to be there. We're not even having a honeymoon, we can't afford one and our schedules don't meet together for long enough. For us, this really is the start of our lives together, because we're long distance, always have been, and have never lived together. The night we get married is the night we'll move into our first home together.

Ours started at £8,000 (funding it all ourselves and without a honeymoon) then it increased to £10,000 with donations from both our parents, and it's currently at £11,000 without our honeymoon spends but does include our flights (staying with friends).

Scary at how unrealistic I was at the initial budgeting phase. We're just saving and paying as we go now. Seems to be working!

I agree, I think its relative to earnings but we havent spent the money just for the sake of it. We carefully selected what we wanted to make sure we had the quality we were after. It does include everything and we have spent a fair bit just on rings. I think the reason we have gone so high is because it was simple to save up without it impacting upon our quality of life at all, we have a house, we dont drink or smoke so we thought why not :) Just hope it all comes together nicely which I am sure it will. I agree, bigger is not always better so hopefully our decisions are the right ones and it all pieces together nicely.

Fair enough it aint no big posh hotel etc but that isnt wat i want as to me marriage isnt abt how much money u spend its abt 2 ppl committing their love to each other n me, my h2b n son becoming a proper wee family. Also i love looking for a gd bargain. Alot of friends n family also specialise in catering and photography so that saves us money as they have offered to do it for us as a gift :) x

We set the original budget at around £5-£6k, knowing that if we needed to there was room to go a bit higher. Our wedding plans have changed several times, but we should be on target for the £5k (without the honeymoon). We're not having an extravagant wedding, as we're not really extravagant people.

I've seen on here that people often feel guilty about spending a lot on their wedding, but if you have the cash then why not. Better a £20k wedding that you can afford with a bit of saving, than having a £2k wedding on credit!

So farfor the venue we want its just under 3k. I already have my dress, h2b has his kilt and i am making everything i can. My sister is making our cake, my friend is a dj, my grandad is doing the photography, my moh already has her dress from a previous wedding, and my mum is making the centerpieces. But I live in the VERY North of Scotland and researched very hard before deciding on one which was the cheapest. My photographer cost my 2000 again researched and it was about the average going rate. Anyone else struggling where they live for competative prices? Or do you think I could bargin more?

My budget was £4,000, but I think it will creep nearer to £4.500. We didnt want a big day, just a relaxed informal wedding where we could celebrate with our family and friends. Our ceremony is at a beautiful registry office costing only £300, the reception venue is going to work out about £2k, thats for 40 day guests and 100 evening guests, 3 course dinner, reception drinks, drinks on table, evening buffet anda DJ. Im not having a big traditional dress, will prop be something more bridesmaidy in style.

Ive been working really hard to keep costs down. We are going to do the flowers and decorations our selves, get the cake from M&S and decorate it, get invites off ebay or vistaprint etc etc.

This is second time around for both of us, so we are reluctant to spend loads of money, and have plenty of other things to pay out for.

Mine is around £20k. We originally want to get married 2010 but decided to put it back so we could have the exact wedding we wanted. I fell in love with the most beautiful venue but that has a high cost and to accessorize everything around it has also had a huge cost so the price has to reflect that. H2B also tells me that I'm not allowed second best on the day so I have no regrets xx

Poulton bride.....ditto. We are only having a small wedding because we want to, we COULD find more friends and family to invite, but we dont want to feed the 40,000......Our budget was around £5,000 but thats because we didnt know the price of things and as it happens i have spent much less than that.....bonus. the honeymoon is a different kettle of fish....but the wedding itself will cost under £3,000
making it small like we have , we have easily been able to afford the things we wanted, and paid cash for everything, if we had had a bigger wedding then it may have been a different story. and no way would we put a wedding on plastic! Although I have saved mega amounts amounts by shopping around, it still peeves me to spend it at all! LOL £50 pp to eat dinner! when we could all have gone to a restaurant for half that price....ah well.

I'm going to make all my own stationary and my mum knows a lady who make's cakes and does flowers and she only charges for materials as she does it for a hobby, so that will be a BIG saving there.

I first thought (before even looking into costs of anything) about £7-8k
After looking into costs I did a spreadsheet with everything incl honeymoon and even a 'misc' £100 for little things I forgot to budget for - £12,200
    After getting quotes - £11,500.

I agree with lala its nice to see the mix of budgets. If people can afford to spend 30k on their dream day and others can do it all on 1k then thats great but at the end of it all we are all marrying the one we love which is priceless xxx

Our budget is 6k i think we are on track for that but have to say we would never have been able to do it without 'Groupon' yes that's right you heard me 'groupon' We got the most beautiful venue Lympne Castle in Kent the second we set foot in it we both loved it and the best bit was the price £2450 for venue and 60 people for drinks reception and a 3 course sit down meal. The venue alone should have been £2500 without the meal. We ended up with a saving of £4610. We wasn't planning on getting married until next summer but this deal came up and we couldn't resist, so brought the wedding forward to this October x

I know you asked just venue and food but i cant give that as it was as a package lol x

When we originally starting planning the wedding we thought it would cost about £10000 and then I did the budget planner on here and it came out at £18000. So far we have spent £16000 and we have had £6000 from our parents, which is so generous. We have been skint for 15 months now, as every spare penny has gone on the wedding but it will all be worth it.

I think ours is about 8k for just food, drink and venue for 60 for the day and a hog roast in the evening

There are so many people out there who will tell you
    what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!
