    Hi all,

I recently went for my first hair trial. Took along my picture cuttings of the style I liked and photo of my dress. Hairdresser (B) did the first 2 plaits and I said then that I was unsure it was going to be right but we decided to finish. In the end B replicate the style pretty well, I'll give her, that but I made futher comments about changes, to which she replied that's ok I can do them on the day!!!! Baring in mind I wasn't 100% happy with the overall look. I sat there thinking she would have a tinker there and then but the next appointment walked in!

So basically I have cancelled B for the actually day, I have no confidence in her now. Thankfully another hairdresser that I use has fitted me in for trial and on the day, knew I should have gone with her originally but didn't think I would have the time to travel to her so went for B who is in town.

What I am wondering is - for a wedding hair trial do you expect the hairdresser to do only one style? Even though you REALLY like the look of a style but don't know if it'll suit you. I had my make up trial and the make up artist did several variations on eyes, blush and lips till we decided on what was best.

    Look forward to your comments

I kinda hoped that they would try a couple of styles to see which we would like best, Im intrigued by this now as to what the protocol is for hair trials. My mum has told me to get my hair done by a hairdresser so its better on the day and less stress.

Im looking forward to seeing what the replies will be from brides that have already had their hair trials xxxx

I've not had my hair trials yet but I'm just about to call up the shop now and asked as like you I am expecting them to play about until I'm happy. I will let you know when I've heard from them what they say.

I've just rung them up and they said they usually allow about an hour for a free trial which does allow them to try one or two different styles but if I'm not happy with it then I can always book another one with them but I would have to pay £28.00 (hair and make up) for it as obviously it is taking up extra time which they could use for other people. I think that is pretty fair to be honest.

i'm thinking of looking at simple styles i can do myself. My hairdresser has gone off around Europe to re-evaluate her life and she has advised me privately she may give up hairdressing. i'm a little gutted

I didn't ask what B usually did for a trial when I booked it but assumed it was to try out a couple of variations. But alas I was mistaken. I paid 25quid for the trial and then it was going to be another 30 on the day! It lasted about 3/4hr. I have to say I was left totally deflated afterwards. My mum MOH and even my dad said it didn't suit. Took 3 washes to get all the rubbish out that she'd put in my hair too!!!! I expect a bit of feedback from the professional if they consider a style wont suit me, isn't that their job too? Although I took pictures of styles I liked I wasn't averse to suggestion and comments. But she basically went " ok that's fine I can do that. There you go. Oh yeah that's not a problem I can do that on the day!"

Go with gut instinct too. I had a bad feeling about going to B ages ago and should have just cancelled then.

I would suggest to anyone who has yet to book a trial, ask what it entails, do they try out a couple of styles? Also ask yourself if you have confidence in the hairdresser, not only to do a good job but also to help you choose something right for you. My mum said I'd done the right thing cancelling B because I have to be 100% happy on the day.

I'll let you know how attempt 2 goes!

I've booked my hair an make up lady who will be coming to the hotel on my wedding day to sort me and my maids. I'm having a make up trial with her and a number of hair trials depending on if the style she does on the first one suits or not. Basically, she will keep booking me for appointments until i'm happy which is more than i could have ever hoped for :)

My hairdresser is doing 4/5 trials on 6 of us as well as coming to my house on the day (extremely early) and doing all 6. The best bit is she is only charging £100 for all of it! I am so lucky xx
