We're skint! Fact of life, we're not planning on getting married for a while, giving us time to save, but we don't exactly have a great deal left over at the end of every month to put away. We're setting up a seperate Wedding account this month, with standing orders from both of our accounts going in a regular intervals, but working it out in my head, i don't think, realistically we're gonna have much to do this wedding on :-(

H2B is working all hours at the moment, but its not fabulous money and i'm a stay at home mum with 4 little ones,
I was just wondering 'how low can you go?' with your budget???? I calculate we will probably only have around £2000 or there abouts to play with. I plan on making all invites, save the dates, menus, orders of service etc..... possibly my own cake? table decor, and anything else i can think of, but also want the wedding of my dreams, and don't want it to end up looking tacky, or cheap??

    Dilemma??

    xxxx

There are a few hotel chains that do them kind of packages so it is worth shopping about. By the time you add your own personal touches and a DJ no one will know how much or little you spent.

my mate had a deal like that for their wedding only the dj left an hour early, the chicken was not cooked thouroughly, the food looked as tho it was from the likes of nettos and the dj arrived two hours late, not to mention the bestmans speech was offensive! that was also premiere inn and was last april!

as a wedding planner i would suggest staying clear of it even tho it seems like a good deal now it may end up the same as my friends, the only reason the dj turned up at all was because i insisted on having a private word with the hotel manager and once we were away from bride groom and other guests i had a major go at her for being so disorganised and being in breach of her contract. i even treatened her with the idea of suggesting to my friends to take her to court for a breach of contract!

in theory you could get married for less than £500! i worked it out in the beginning! all you need is to give notice to registra, pay the registra and wedding licience! everything else is just a bonus! At one point we very nearly just went and did that as i was so annoyed and just wanted to get married. xx

Hun you could just go to the registry office and there you go...your married!!!!! theres a high expectation around now...even ive fallen into the trap buying little extra touches here and there.....but if you really were on a budget...you dont need place settings and little cards you dont need favors you dont need expensive flowers or hair pecies....so dont make it hard on yourself....im sure eventually the wedding pot will fill up and youll find loads of good bargains...i have and its fab and you realise your getting so much for your money....look out for the packages because they are good...online shoppin fab..light in the box is a fab site....its up to you how far you go with it...but ultimatly its you and the person you love in front of a registry or vicar declaring your love..and it can be a simple as that!!!!!

Wedding's can be as cheap as want them to be one of my H2B's friends did it for about £600. It was a rather different wedding but it depends what things are important to you. They just wanted to get married so did it at their church, there was only 17 of us there - we had a toast and speaches in the village hall then went to pizza hut for some food. Then onto a pub for drinks. The lads all wore suits they already had and she wore a white dress she had. They only thing that was important to them was becoming Mr and Mrs.
I know I wouldn't be able to do it that way as I want all my family and friends to be there, and i definatly need the dress lol.

My auntie got married last year and hers cost just under £2000 and she had everything! She bought her dress and 4 bridesmaids dreses second hand off ebay. The BM dresses where different shades of red so she dyed them all to match - you couldn't even tell on the day.

So it definatly can be done on a bugget just decide which parts are more important to you and go from there :) xx

my budget at the beginning was around 8K, but after h2b had salary cut and spending the last 12 months deliberating as to whether its going ahead, we decided to speak to our venue and got lucky!

    1. we scrapped civil for register office as in principal i refuse to pay £264.00 for registrar to travel 10 mins. £44.00 at register office saved me £220.00
    2. i havent done 'save the date' cards, as i think waste of time!
    3. Got my brother to do invitations as artistically hes fab
    4. scrapped sit down meal and cut no of people for full day. instead we've opted for canapes after service and then full buffet
    in evening.
    5. a family friend is making my cake - not sure how much shes going to charge, and it could even be a 'freebie' but if so im
going to offer to pay for ingredients!
    6. finally got brave enough to trust ebay. started with little purchases to make sure i wasnt being ripped off and so far im pretty
    happy.
    7. scrapped all floral table arrangements in favour of balloons and then sacked the shop providing, as i found another supplier
who i bargained with and saved £5 + i got free delivery and dressing. i know £5 doesnt sound alot, but hey its
    £5 towards something else.
    8. just bought new washing machine, and sold my 2 yr old washer on ebay. soon going to be selling my fridge as thats getting
    changed as well.
basically what i am saying is it can be done on a budget and you'lll find you will always have a friend 'who knows someone' etc who can do things cheaper.

dont panic with a little bit of imagination and nouse you will get there and make it spectacular.

2 of my friends got married 2009; one spent £2800 the other £18k and the cheaper one was a more stylish, classy and nicer day xx

Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE A BARGAIN!!! LOL Won't bore you with things that others have said but all I can say it can range from a couple of hundred to mega bucks but at the end of the day the main objective has been achieved......two people who love each other have affirmed this legally and are married..what could be more beautiful. All the money in the world doesn't make you any more in love or any more married. Whatever you choose to spend i am sure it will be lovely. xxx

Atm ours is budgeting in for about £3500 but we are not having to pay for transport as mil2b uncle is doing it for us in his mercedes E class. Plus my parents are paying for cake and was originally looking at a dress for approx £900 but with shopping around on the net i found a website where i found a better dress that i fell in love wth for £172 :) probably will save alot more money so end up spending £2500 in reality. Its not what you spend its about making that commitment and joining of two hearts.

Mine has spiralled already and the thought of spending all that money shocks me! I should've signed up for ukbride before booking my venue and the details of it. In hindsight, i think I'd have went for a late wedding then canapes and reception drinks before a big evening buffet and skipped the sit down meal altogether. Dont get me wrong, i'm going to love my day and I know it'll be a wonderful day, I just cant justify the money we're spending on it. Strangely it's normally H2B that'd be thinking like this but he's all for it going with the 'we're only getting married once' line of thinking but having read all the other great ideas done on a budget it's just got me thinking about it, and thinking of the other non wedding related things we could be getting with the extra we're spending. however it's booked now and we'll have a great day anyway! When it comes down to it though it's not about how much you spend, it's really only about the 2 of you and that you want to be together! x

I was watching 4 wedding the other day and one of the brides on there had a really small budget and had done most of the rungs herself it was really good- better than some of the brides who had spent 34k so dont be put off with a small budget it can be done really nicely.

Went to a wedding last year and they had spent £800ish. It was bargains/clever buying and using skills of those about them all the way but you would never had known they hadn't spent thousands (only reason I do is she told me lol). It was so elegant.

theres some great tips on here BUT dont forget e bay isnt always the cheapest! sometimes shops can be cheaper and if you count the p and p on top it usually works out more expensive even if the actual product is cheaper than in the shops! make the land of pound and discount shops your new BFF lol Sometimes you will be surprised what you can pick up in supermarkets! i saw 10 voile bags for £4 which i think wasnt too bad! I will be making my own cake, using silk or foam flowers and doing my own bouquets, making decorations etc etc. The best way to save a lot of money if you are wanting a sit down meal is to cut down on daytime guests and invite the majority of people to the evening. Shop around for a venue. Some venues charge a bomb for the use of it for the reception and evening hire but others you will be amaized how cheaply you can get them for. Dont fuss over things like elaborate centrepieces. Why not get a slim vase (dunelm do them form 2.99 each) then have a single faux flower in them. simple yet elegant and can be done for about £4 each! Think about what you really need and things that dont matter. e.g. wedding cars are lovely if you have the money for them, but can you use someone elses car? Registry offices are miles cheaper than getting married at a venue and then forking out for a registra, and to be honest most regsitry offices are actually really nice inside and you are only in them for about 25 mins anyway! Other ways of savng money are to pick your time of year carefully. getting married 'out of season' saves a lot as does getting married mid week or a sunday. My reg office are charging about £100 more for 'the wedding season'! kind of made me want to move the wedding to of peak lol

I got down from £13000 to £7000 so far, and still working out to lower it all the time. I will go see my local flower stand at the market for help with flowers, I will ask my church if they have a church hall, in food I will offer the cheapest/good value menu I can, I am getting a student to do photos (I am not fussed about photos all day just want a few nice shots of h2b and I) the rest of photos will be taken by guest, for car I don't know yet, I will look for the best value rental car, invites, favours, bms outfits and shoes and presents will all be from bay of e (or similar) cake is offered by my mum, and so are her gloves, veil I have seen cheap ones of bay of e as well as petticoat, my shoes as well, decorations I have seen a few nice couple shaped statuettes in a bargain shop for a pound or two each (just need one per table) and invitations and save the date I will order in bulk of bay of e (and no save the date for my French party)
