We are having buffet in evening
CommentAuthorSpecialSundae
It was one of the criteria on which we chose our caterers, whether they suggested interesting vegetarian dishes rather than bleeding risotto, pasta or goat's cheese! I was veggie for years and my mum's veggie, but Grant's dad really objects to vegetarianism... Said basically "Let them eat pork"... Nice!

I love that idea! I lied to my venue and said that my friend is making me a cheesecake wedding cake, as well as me having a 'normal wedding cake'. Might nick this idea though. Do you think I could just buy massive cheese in 3 different sizes?

yes ave seen them at the deli counters!! u can go ask them and they wud order u the whole circle in i wud of thought.... as it earns them more money!! its gud to accompany the buffet cos we are havin about 170 ish at nite but buffet for 100, with the cheese thing will make it all gud . i wud prefer this to just extra buffet food, cos ave been loads of weddins etc where it gets wasted

We're having a posh version of afternoon tea - some very swish sandwiches (can't remember them all but fillet of beef, ostrich egg and smoked salmon are examples); scones with jam and cream, macaroons and then a range of cakes/desserts. A range of teas plus champagne cocktails to go with it.
Haven't got the evening bit finalised but there'll be a small savoury buffet along with wedding cake, fudge and H2B's homemade chocolate truffles (though I don't think he's quite realised just how much work that will be!)

Helenia - love that idea, it sounds very classy and sophisticated

I think out menu will be the following...
Starters ~ Tomato and Basil Soup w/ croutons ~ Rose of Melon with Compote of Forrest Berries ~ Tomato and Mozzarella Salad w/ Dressed Rocket and Pesto
Main ~ Roast Breast of Turkey w/ Sage and Onion Stuffing and Gravy ~ Medallions of Pork w/ Apple and Herb Farce and a Whole Grain Mustard Souce ~ A vegetarian option, which we havent decided yet
Lisa - thanks; it was a joint plan between us and the chef. I had a less-fancy afternoon tea at another friend's wedding, with hogroast in the evening and it worked really well so we thought we'd go all out and make the afternoon tea a full meal! Also means that we'll be having it at about the right time of day and not either eating a big meal at 4pm or having to keep everyone waiting hungry till the evening.
CommentAuthormym72
We're having:
Starters: Chef's Homemade Soup Prawn Cocktail Haggis and Mushroom Cup Brandied Chicken Liver Pate Deep Fried Camembert
Mains: Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding Lamb Shank with Red Wine Rosemary with redcurrant and mint gravy Steamed Fillet of Cod Grilled Fillet Steak Prawn Salad
Desserts: A selection of desserts available from the dessert trolley on the day
We're going to order various wine as well - and the cost of the meal is approx £25 per head (wine extra).
CommentAuthorKayteeG

We haven't officially decided yet but I am wanting 2 choices for each course. Starters Chicken liver pate and toast Something with hot smoked salmon Mains Chicken stuffed with something (not haggis or skirlie as is tradition up here!) Beef with all the trimmings Puddings Lemon tart or Cranachan Something chocolatey
This is as far as I have got!
CommentAuthorlollilou
We're having, Prawn cocktail or melon, Roast beef or onion tart, Chocolate fudge cake or fresh fruit salad. Very similar to yours Krazykitty. In the evening we're having a buffet not sure of what but it's only £5.00 per head. Most of our evening guests will have had a couple of drinks by then so prob won't care to much!
CommentAuthorPeaseblossom
Forgot to say as well, our venue is the only one we visited that will give us a choice of courses for no extra money, most charge about £5/head for a choice!!

We have no say in our menu unless we want to pay more money which I dont so we are having Tomato soup Chicken dinner Choc fudge cake
Its all very standard food though so I dont think anyone will complain and I dont think we have any veggies amongst us. I will have to ask for the chicken not to be wrapped in bacon for a few people though.

I think I am just being an arse! I dont want soup in case I get it down me, I dont like fungus, personally fruit is a pudding and Stu doesnt eat fish and most of the family dont eat pate! They have provided us with alternative menus at a cost increase but stil based along the same lines. The only thing I can think of is cheese and bacon potato skins with sour cream. No bacon for the veggies and no cheese for Stu's mum! The main will have to have a roast, but I keep thinking to myself it wont be like the raosts we have at home.. Plate full, swede, parsnips, proper roasts, no frozen veg.... See what I mean... xx
