To start with I think I'd ensure they were well looked after on the day. Pay for the fathers suit hire and for mothers to have hair and make up done. Set up a tab behind the bar for them that you'll pay off so they don't have to pay for any drinks.

As for presents, I think I'd go with the large bouquet of flowers for each Mum, and maybe a personalised item for each of them. I'd also ensure lots of nice things are said about them in the speeches, thanking them for their contributions (no need to mention money or how much), support etc. You could also say during the speeces that you'd like to thank them by taking them out for a meal when you return from honeymoon.

I think the main thing is to make them feel special and appreciated.

My dad is contributing a fair amount to our wedding so I'm thinking of getting him an Orient Express day experience or something similar (as he LOVES trains) or a weekend city break in Krakow with my mum (they are actually seperated but do ALOT together still) as my dad is the guru on WWI and WWII and would find visiting Auswitz etc interesting, as would my mum. Bizzare gifts I know buts it what they would probably enjoy!

Only other option ive considered is a weekend away at a plush spa.

On the day though we'll be giving both mums a large bouquet and my dad something personalised, with a letter from me thanking him for his help etc. I am also thinking of having a dad/daughter dance but we'll see.

I agree with the photo album idea. We're doing that for our parents, though they don't know it yet. Also, maybe you could get the photographer to print a larger version of a photo of you two with each set of parents?

The photo album is something we are doing for H2b's parents and my Mum and Dad. We are putting our own photo book together as this worked out cheaper than asking for an album from our photographer. We will be doing a smaller and more personalised photo book for our parents.

I am glad I spotted this thread, my parents are contributing a fair amount to our wedding and wanted to get them both the usual personalised gift but after seeing this thread its helped me decide that I want to thank them properly for all they have done for me not just the wedding so I might look into them seeing a Broadway show and stay over night as I know when they went for their 30th anniversary they both loved it :) xx

Regardless of what the parents give us I want to be able to treat them all out. All four parents have helped massively financially and emotionally. I'll see what our financial situation is after the wedding and decide what to do then, but it'll likely be taking them out for a nice meal.

Thank you to all of you what has replied. You all have great ideas. Claire88, i was the same and its not until you read something like what littlemissworry and the other ladys said, That you realise what You could be getting them. Just wanna say I also know its hell of alot of money. Im not gunna waste a penny of theirs or ours, I bargain hunt before buying anything. We always planned it with what we could afford so was not relying on them. My sil married in april and her parents paid for it and her inlaws paid for most of her honeymoon. My mum gave my sis the same amount as me. We also got engaged at 19 been together since 15, So will be 30 this year. Moved out at 17 always paid for everything ourselves lol. We are also the only couple out of the other 4 with no kids, My bro has 4.. sis 2.. bil 3..and sil 1. So like our parents say they have had plenty of time to save and dont have to spend a fortune on our kids lol. Lana2BMrsHands, My h2b now has alot of family coming from abroad from his mums side what we have never met and they take up quite abit of the guest list lol so i dont think she would want it back lol.

Mrs T. 2 Be, Does your room cost include breakfast(fry up) for them or is that a seperate charge. Our breakfast cost is crazy lol. I think some places make the prices up as they go along lol.

Oh I agree MrsX2b, I am bargain hunting everything lol but as I am my parents only daughter (2 brothers) the only one really settled, and mum being a slight traditionalist (been with my dad since 16 married at 20 and still going strong) she wanted her and my dad to contribute where necessary but also respect that we as a couple want to do it on our own, and as I am someone who loves buying gifts for people (strange I know lol) I really want to get them both something special that they will enjoy :) xx

I've seen a lovely photo frame that I bought my dad after the wedding but my be something personal and appropriate for your parents on the day. It was a frame that said today a bride, tomorrow a wife, forever your little girl. I then added a pic of me and my dad walking down the aisle, a pic of me and hubby from wedding and an old pic from when I was a toddler - he absolutely loved it x there are sites that do them for you or you could just personalize a mutli photo frame for the same effect xx love the photo album idea though too x

FernP - a cruise would cost more than £6k per pair of parents!
But I like your idea about a weekend away - loads of great groupon deals to be had for that kind of thing!
