Ok ladies I have been on ebay and seen my dress in a size that I can have altered as it is a size too big at the moment and the starting bid is £50. I'm just wondering what to do now as I am supposed to go and order my dress in a couple of weeks time. I've already put down £425 deposit for it though which I'm thinking I could lose but would ask if I could transfer into bridesmaid dresses and shoes etc which would save me from having to buy them on top of my dress.

Do you think it is worth going to see this dress etc even if I lose the money from the bridal shop? It would still work out cheaper than paying the full price of the dress as I have to pay another £425 for it plus the £100 for the extras I want doing to it! I just don't know what to do! Money isn't an issue as such as the h2b is happy to pay the full price of the dress but I'm just thinking if I can get the dress of my dreams cheaper then its more money for us in our married life. Just because the money is there doesn't mean that I have to spend it. I'm happy as long as I get to marry him.

Thats a tricky one, I mean I'm all for a bargain - and i got one as I save £1100 on mine - but I'm not sure about the risk taking element... you are obviously still looking at dresses, so is the one you have deposited on 'the one'? If it isn't then maybe look elsewhere, but I imagine if you have deposited on a dress, wont they keep the deposit if you cancel?

oh dear what a dilema.......it's always good to save money........if you can see the dress before you buy it then you may have a bargin there........but like becky said if you paid a deposit then they have already ordered the dress for you which then would mean that your dress cost you £475 and that is a real saving......... I'd say see it first then decide

They haven't ordered the dress yet as they were waiting until Feb to take my measurements as I wanted to try and lose some weight first. I was just looking to see if I could find my dress on a normal woman rather than on a stick insect when I came across the auction and saw it. They don't live that far from me so I could always go down and try it on etc and check it out before I committed to anything.

sounds like a plan hun!! i think you have made the decision.....go try on the dress and see what it is like. check for any danage like stains rips etc and if it is in perfect order then go for it if it will save you a small fortune. like you said, just because the money is there doesnt mean you have to spend it and i am sure the shop would be happy if you used that money on bidesmaids dresses as that way they arent losing out financially x

Kev has just walked in the house and I told him about it. He said I'm getting married once. I'm having a new dress end of. So that is that. Bless him he is so good. Here I am trying to save him money and he tells me not to. What a great way to start married life :0)

I don't have a choice. He is the one paying. Most of the time he lets me have things my way so for him to put his foot down means that I have to listen. I think its really sweet of him and he doesn't understand that I'm trying to save him money. I keep trying to talk him round but he just walked in from the kitchen and said 'luv put it like this when hell freezes over you can go and buy it so keep a look out in the paper to see if that happens and if it does you can go buy it' and then walked back in the kitchen.

I can see where he is coming from.... Yes it is nice and I know I am spoilt rotten especially when you see others on here who can't have all that. I guess the dress and all the glitz just doesn't do it for me that much. I want to get married to the man I love and that is the only thing that is really important to me. I'm the more practical we could put the money to better use lol.

Your lucky. I don't have them to do that but hey ho. I've also lost all my savings after having a car accident two years ago and having to stop work so the h2b is having to pay for it all. He doesn't complain and thinks I'm worth it but I can't help feeling bad about it. I know he doesn't and I shouldn't but I can't help the way I feel. Just wish I could find a work from home job so I could help out a bit more.

I'm doing a computing degree at the moment in the hope I can set up from home. The problem I have is pain and the more I do the worse it gets. I can't sit down for too long at a desk and if I have over done things I can't get out of bed let alone get to work so I need something that works around me rather than the other way around. Avon etc is out as its walking from house to house and even if I went in the car by the time I've got in and out a few times it is enough to start wearing me down. I'm hoping that I can do work over the phone or internet at some point but if anyone has other ideas then I'm all for them :)

theres some webs that allow you design print tshirts n stuff . . . you get the profit when sombody buys one, but its not very regular. will have a look around for the site i found [not using my own computer so cant just fave bar >.<] might be some useful "buy a new jumper" money but not very paying-the-mortgage
As far as the dress is concerned, i think you should just be glad that hes trying to make you feel special; if it was the other way around, would you say the same to him? just enjoy yourself hon, it is only once after all :] <3 x
