Hi, I will be providing all the drink during the daytime then having a pay bar in the evening. Trouble is I dont drink wine and never have, neither does my H2B. I'm thinking of maybe just providing rose as my colour scheme is pink so will look nice on the tables then sparkling rose for the toasts. There is also rose Schloer, water and kids drinks. Do you think this is wrong? Do I need red and white wine to cater for everyone when I dont even like wine myself? lol.

It's your day and your providing the drinks. So they should just be grateful! C x

Yerh its completely up to you and whatever you budget is... i personally would have a bottle of white and red on each table but... its your day and your choice and if people don't like your choice they can get theirs at the bar themselves x

last week when i went to my venue, the manageress suggested something that we are going along with. rather than putting 1 red and 1 white on the tables....and risking throwing away unused half bottles , we are having the waitresses go round and asking what they prefer.....red or white. they will open just as many as is required, which is usually considerably less that opening bottles and leaving them to pour their own. people can get greedy or wasteful when its free, so if it is poured for them they are more likely to just drink what they choose when asked.
I can resist anything but temptation

I think it's really generous of you to be providing the wine so you should choose whatever you want. If I was a guest, I wouldn't complain because I wanted something else. I think you should go with Rose, most people like it anyway :) xx

is just to love and be loved in return
We're giving a choice of red, white or rose. I don't know many people who drink rose, so personally, I wouldn't choose it if you can offer only one choice; white would be my suggestion. I know a lot of wine drinkers, and every single wine drinker I know will drink white, about 70-80% will drink red, and only maybe 30% rose.
Obv I don't know your guests, so I'm just going on people I know.
Could another option be to include a tick box on your RSVPs? We're doing this on ours, so we know roughly how many bottles of each to put out. Either that, or if it's being served, simply get the waiter/waitress to ask people their preference and serve it accordingly.
But yeah, I personally would not go with rose if I could only offer one; I'd go with white, as it's the safest bet. And I'd go with a medium-dry white; don't go too dry or too sweet

We're having a bottle of each (Red, White & Rosé) on each table, they can either drink that or buy themselves a drink at the bar :) We're also having welcome drinks which will be a sparkling pink champagne (depending on budget).
Am thinking about Aldi as the wine isn't that bad from there and it's £2.99 a bottle - we'll need 30 bottles! Am also going to design some wine labels to put on them to hide the fact they are from Aldi!!!!!! (just so people can turn their noses up!) Bit cheeky, but we gotta stay on budget!!! LOL

we got white, red and rose to put on the tables for people to help themselves. You could always soak off the labels and put a tag round the necks with ribbon, you could then write little messages on the tags or put pictures or a little flower on them?
This is a picture of what I did for our wedding :)

thanks for all the advice girls. I think the question on the rsvp is a great idea so i know how many to buy as dont want to be left with loads as i dont drink it and dont want too little as the bar wont open till about 6pm and the meal will start at about 2-2.30 ish so need to keep all the guest watered! lol

tikobear, asda have 3 for £10 on sparkling rose. JP Chenet Sparkling Rose was £5.48 each 3 for £10 and just had a bottle just to sample and it was lovely! £3.33 for a branded bottle is a bargain! 3 for £10 on quite a few choices of white and red too.

I think having a tick box is a great idea. Personally, I like sweet rose so that'd be my choice but I know your average wine drinker prefers a more medium or dry wine... wouldnt be for me but found a lovely compromise at our venue when we were last there x

i would also go with asking which they want and the waitress pours it that way your only paying for the bottles that are used which will probably be less then if you put the bottles on the tables. i have worked at a few places were we have done this and its done on sale or return bases so if you say you want 15 bottles and only use ten they will give you the money back for the other 5 that haven't been opened. were if you put 15 bottles one on each table and they were only 10 used they would still charge you for the 15 as they are opened. my wine is going to be in the package deal so every one gets a glass with there meal one on arrival and one for toast i will include red white or rose as i prefer to drink rose myself and i know a few of my guest do to.

I know quite a few people that ONLY drink red, and the same for white and rose. I personally wouldn't risk only rose...
CommentAuthorclbronze
LOVE the idea of personalising the wine! Lovely! I agree with EMC, some people are fussy about their wine! (Although I'm sure they should be grateful that you're providing it and just drink what they're given!)

Thanks for all the advice girlies. No point going for the getting the waitresses to pour as I am getting the wine elsewhere and if i get my caterers to pour i think it costs extra. there is no corkage fee so once the bottles are paid for theres no going back i guess. I might buy them quite early bit by bit so i dont notice the cost. My inlaws have already offered to do a france trip and supply the wine for us which is lovely of them. I'm definitely going to go with the tick box on rsvp though so i know what to get.

We're just having rose wine on the tables as we weren't sure how many would like red or white etc as well as jugs of iced water, and we're toasting with pink prosecco rather than champagne - other than that there's a pay bar for any other preferences :-)
CommentAuthorSweetchilli
I've put a tick box on my menu choice and to return it with the rsvp's

We are going along the lines of RaggedyAnnes' Venue, guests are being asked what they would like to drink red or white wine, i tho prefer rose and am having that x

Do you know what... my sister got married in August 2009 and had a big garden reception, she bought lots of wine, had a couple of barrels of beer and champagne for toasting as well as plenty of fresh juice. Me and h2b were the only guests to touch the wine.... out of 40 guests. We were hammered LOL... but yeh anyway my point is - don't go overboard and be out of pocket, if you want to put a bottle of pink on a table then that's fine, it's free and it's what you want!!
