We're not really having many of the normal traditions. We're having old, new, borrowed and blue. The day before our wedding I will see h2b in the morning before he leaves for work then plan on getting all the wedding stuff to the hotel before he finishes at midday then won't see him til the day.
Other than that I don't think we're having any traditions.
I really did marry my Mr Wright and we had a nice day for a
Wright wedding!

Hmmm... I think I'm killing most traditions at the wedding. Especially the cake cutting. He'll cut one half and I'll cut the other, The hand over hand thing P's me off something tragic.
CommentAuthorLegoWife
Whys that?

My other half has never even cut a cake as far as I know. When there's a roast in the house I carve it because he doesn't know how. I've tried to teach him but there's been no joy. Yet on the day of the wedding he gets to be the man and guide my hands to cut the cake - h*ll no! In general I find most tradition harmless no matter what there origins may be. But the cake cutting gets my hackles up every time.

I am having something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a sixpence for my shoe(with h2b birth year on it) We are also spending the night before apart at h2bs insistance, probably cos he knows i will be super stressed and i would drive him mad and we probably would end up having a row and not get married lol (now that would be bad luck!) I am not throwing my bouquet or garter i totally agree with what lula88 says! We are cutting the cake and having a first dance.I will doing a speech, not my Dad but he will be giving me away.I think we are mostly traditional though xxx

You could easily guide HIS hands to cut the cake instead?
Plus according to this explanation about the tradition of cake cutting:
The traditional cake cutting ceremony is symbolically the first task that the bride and groom perform jointly as husband and wife. After the cake cutting ceremony, the couple proceed to feed one another from the first slice. This evocative symbolism, displays the mutual commitment of bride and groom to provide for one another; a tradition that most of us have witnessed many times. The first piece of wedding cake is cut by the bride with the "help" of the groom. This duty was originally performed exclusively by the bride, who cut the wedding cake for sharing with her guests. Distributing pieces of wedding cake to one's guests dates from the Roman tradition, when guests clamoured for the crumbs. Wedding cake cutting became more difficult as the multi-tiered cakes used hard ‘Royal’ icing. Henceforth, cutting the wedding cake became a joint project.
I think you may have the wrong idea about it?
Your choice either way though lol

Old new borrowed and blue, wearing a garter but not tossing it, not throwing my bouquet, first dance and night apart the night before. Don't think there is anything else?

Old new borrowed blue, cake cutting, sugar almonds favours. I really want to do the Cypriot tradition of pinning money to the brides wedding gown during the dancing but think people might think we're greedy buggers!
CommentAuthormym72
We had separate rooms the night before and didn't see each other on the wedding day til the ceremony. I also kept with the tradition of wearing a garter - although I didn't really stick to the old, new, borrowed and blue things (had everything but the borrowed lol).
My dad gave me away, but I didn't stick to the tradition of throwing my bouquet (I had artificial so that I could keep it afterwards). I did stick to not making a speech and just leaving it to the groom and my dad - although the best man didn't make a speech.
We posed for the pics 'cutting' the cake, but didn't actually do it properly and left it to the venue to cut up for the guests instead.
We did have a first dance - but as for the transport, we had a vw campervan instead of the old fashioned, 'traditional' cars.

I'm wearing my veil over my face which is a tradition that I think (from on here) most people opt out of. I'm not throwing the bouquet either but other than that think I'm fairly traditional.
I didn't know about the reason for the cake cutting :)
There are so many people out there who will tell you
what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!
CommentAuthorTeganandRob
Oh we're also going to spend the night before apart and I will be wearing a veil over my face. Just a birdcage one though, does that still count? I'm not doing bouquet toss as there will only be 1 unmarried girl there and she's only 8!
CommentAuthorCoconut
we are spending the night apart, doing the old blue borrowed etc. Think im going to do the bouquet toss but with my bm flowers. Doing the cake cutting.
Think thats about it :)
CommentAuthorPB
Oh yes i am wearing my veil over my face.Love your reason for not tossing your bouquet Tegan xxx
CommentAuthorTeganandRob
I think I'll probably just giver her my bouquet anyway, she's so excited for this wedding I think she'll explode by next year!
CommentAuthorfloatee
We are looking at which ones to do still, never realised til I started looking into it there soo many.
I am doing the old, new, borrowed & blue. Hopefully (if we can make it work lol) we will have a first dance and I will have a father/daughter dance, my dad is walking me down the aisle and giving me away, with alacrity probabaly lmao. We shall be apart the night before. As for the bouquet toss, I am gonna have to think upon it. The cake aspect is a whole other thread tbh as it is the only thing we are having difficulty figuring out in oh so many ways!
