It never crossed my mind until late last night..... Iv got songs picked for walking down the aisle and walking out the church. First dance and sitting for our meal.
I hadnt thought about songs for when guest were arriving and waiting for me to arrive!!!
I do not want an organist as i really do not like the sound of the organ and it also cuts a cost (hopefully since iv seen some people are being charged for the organist not to play)
I will probably have instumentals but do any of you ladies know of any nice songs that still sound good as an instrumental?

I like the idea of there not being any music, just the excitement filling the air as the guests are arriving, the music only starts when the brides coming and the excitement builds some more... all very dramatic but I love it lol x
True, I just thought the church might sound a bit empty, although it is a little church so might get away with it.
will have to sit in the church for a little bit and see how it sounds lol

It's nice of you to think of them but tbh I dont remember being at a wedding and thinking about music being missing, I like to people watch, see what everyone's wearing, wave to the odd face I recognise and tell h2b any stories I know about them (lol) then the music starts and I have a tear in my eye before I even see the bride. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the few seconds after the music starts before the bride comes in... all that anticipation... God I want to go to a wedding! x
I hadn't even thought about any of that yet, our priest dsont need to see us till january but i did call him the other day and he said that we need to get our own organist (and pay them ourselves) if we want one but he is happy just having any music we like.. :)

If you are to have music personally I would choose something that is more background music so that it is noticeable but isnt overpowering so it doesnt impact on the chatting and meeting n greeting of guests and excitement building before you arrive. We did have an organist at ours but she only played from about 5-10 mins before our 2pm wedding once most guests had arrived and it was quieter tunes which she had a mix already made of which we were happy with. The music didnt drown out anyone talking but did add to the excitement. Its entirely up to you what you choose or if you do go with music but I would suggest from an already married woman, a softer background style music would suffice. Hope that helps. xx

We've been told to pick 2 songs for while the guests are finding their seats, so we've picked; Elvis Presley - If I Can Dream XTreme - More Than Words

We are having an orgainist and a harpist, (we're paying for the orgainist regardless of wethere she plays or not so she will bloddy be there!) I think we will just tell the harpist to play on her own whilst people are arriving, preferably just classical songs that people won't really know, becuase I just want it to be background music, whereas if it's music people know they may sing a long etc, so then when she plays our music people will know it's begenning!

My brother and SIL had a lady playing the flute. I havent even thought of any hymns. i dnt know if i really want any!!!
Do i have to have hymns if im getting married in a church???

Our minister said you do in our church anyway. Not sure how it works in other churchs but we have to have three hymns included in our service, which is a quite excessive I think, but he insists thats the norm

Well once we have pick a minister i shall ask him.
The church i am marrying in is not a practicing church,
It was going to be sold privately but i think the community raised money to buy it themselves, or they did something so it wasnt sold, so i think i dont have to have the totally traditional ceremony but once we have chosen a minister im sure he will keep us right!

I am having a harpist who is my daughters harp teacher and I have known for years so we have a good relationship. I have decided on my walking in song which he is rearringing for the harp as we speak (Gabriel's Oboe by Ennio Morriconne)but I think I will just let him play some classical pieces of his choice while the guests arrive but I have yet to think of my walking out tune. I will discuss that with him as he has done a lot of weddings and will know what works well. If you are having a musician/s ask them for their opinions as they might come up with a gem that you would not have thought of or remembered. Rather than have the congregation sing through hymns reluctantly I have asked my brothers wife to sing as she has a wonderful voice and I am happy to say she has agreed ;-) By the way I think it's outrageous that you have to pay organists NOT to play! That did bring a smile to my face.
