Ok, so it might help if you know the way our day is going to work before you get the idea..

3pm - Married at Registry Office
    After ceremony - pictures
20 guests from ceremony going to restaurant for drinks and meal
6.00pm(ish) leave the restaurant and travel half an hour to reception venue for it to start at 7pm.

Sooooooo, i guess the big question is - is it my responsibility to arrange transport for everyone at the meal to the reception? Its not really something we can afford to be honest but how would we go about mentioning to our day guests that they have to make their own way there? And do you think it would be an issue?

I've been really stressing in the last couple of days, there's so many different things to think of and i can't quite get my head around it at the moment..

Ive posted on your other thread but here is my opinion.

It is not your problem to arrange getting people to and from venues.
I know a few people on here have got quotes etc for buses to transport and then told guests it can be arranged for a certain amount per head etc and passed the organising onto someone else who wants to use the transport.

I accept wedding invitations knowing that I will be meeting the cost of my own transportation, accomodation and even in some cases i am happy to pay for my meal etc xxx

I've been worrying about how people are going to get from A to B etc, but when I think about it, at every wedding I've been to we've had to arrange our own transport. Just word it as "meeting up at" or similar, so that they know they are to make their own way!

No its not your responsibility, people will be prepared to find their own way or like one of the other ladies has said share transport and split the cost between them.

i would have thought people would have had there own transport if they need to get from the registry office to the restaurant. so i wouldn't worry about having to sort anything out for them its just getting you and h2b to the reception you need to sort out xx

I wouldnt say that it is your responsibility but if it really worries you you could always look at hiring a coach to take guests to the evening reception? May be a bit expensive though? xx

No it isn't your responsibility. We only had 17 guests to our wedding. We got married at the venue, then had a meal at the hotel/restaurant about 5 minutes away. We stayed in the hotel bar for the evening though. The only thing we did, because we didn't have many guests, was to order a minibus from the local taxi company to take some guests back to the hotel ready for the meal. About half the guests had their own transport anyway so gave lifts to some of the others - but we left them to sort it out themselves. I've never been to a wedding where transport was laid on for the guests so don't worry if you leave it to them.

Ive just done our invite info sheet which i'm adding into the invite envelope this is what I wrote

    Mini Bus Service

We appreciate that you may not want to drive to venue if you are wanting to consume alcohol or may have difficulty getting transport to the venue. We have arranged for a mini-bus service ( provided by En-Route ) to be available to our guests if they so wish to use it, unfortunately although we planned to absorb these costs ourselves due to budgeting issues we have to request those that use the service pay a contribution of £3.75 per head and we will pay the other half. Pick up is 11.45am, returning around midnight. Due to needing to know numbers wanting to use this service please circle YES or NO

I asked a couple of friends and they said people would appreciate that they didnt have to arrange their own transport or argue over who's driving and they wouldn't mind paying full amount each.

Hope this helps as i was chewing over it myself xx

If your worried about asking them to arrange their own transport, you could always hire a minibus & ask everyone to chip in?

our wedding is at 2pm at a register office, then the reception is being held 5 miles away at a hotel. we wont be even thinking about their transport....in fact we are being taken from the house to the register office by guests/family .....we have cadged a lift so to speak.
I have never been to a wedding where the transport was ever mentioned....we just went in our own cars, its not your responsibility, you have enough to do already.

but if you felt you wanted to put transport on, then you could do that, with winning your whole wedding there wont be any other things to pay?

Lou Lou, i for one would deinately pay to use it, if its far away, then that means i either dont drink at all, or book a room for the night at a hotel.....£3.75 is considerably cheaper than a hotel. I think thats reasonable

the one problem you might have though is, if only half the guests say yes, what about the rest of them? will that mean that they have to pay more, or will you? the price is the price and the cost per person will depend on how many people you have to share that cost with.

No one has ever provided transport for guests at any wedding i have been to. I wouldnt worry. If you want you can offer to arrange taxis but that are to pay for them. Also we have a free website where guests can put details if they have space in their car for thos driving and others can cadge a lift. I wouldnt worry, my family are traveling from yorkshire to scotland and nobody has even mentioned that we should arrange travel x

No its not down to you to provide transport hunny x I would tho perhaps add some local taxi numbers in with your invites and suggest before hand to your guests they may wish to get a 6 seater taxi to save on costs etc..but ultimately - nope dont worry your head about that! xxx

Anne- if there wasnt enough then i could downsize the minibus but so far i think im going to have to book another one ! as people including family are wanting to use the mini bus service instead of drive, our venue is roughly 25 mile away so i felt i should help out with transport a little, i'm probably over concious cause my dad keeps mentioning how far it is away and why i couldnt get somewhere closer- but its the venue we wanted so threw in a little extra to help guests attend xx

Yeah mine is also 25 miles away, but I have people coming from different directions so it wouldnt work for us, but its a great idea.
I did it at my first wedding, well I personally didnt do it, they all got together and did it.
