Im unsure what to do for our wedding breakfast, do we have a sit down meal or hog roast, buffet?
Id like a sit down meal (more so because it seems the thing to do at weddings-everyone Ive been to theres been a sit down meal and would feel cheap otherwise) the basic 3 course meal packages are your standard soup, dinner and profiterole type menus and I wanted something abit more choicy or more WOW than this?!
What options have you gone for, costs and why?
Thanks
Sarah xx

You've already answered your question if you say you'd like a sit down meal.
We went for a hog roast or better a mixed spit roast (various meats) for several reasons. We never wanted a stiff sit down meal, we want a relaxed feel for the day. There will be many kids and I don't want any of the mums to think their little one has to sit. That said we will still have a table plan to avoid chaos and awkward who sits where situations. Another reason is - I don't like getting stuffed and having to eat a 3 course meal or more means I won't enjoy the rest of the night. Having people take what and how much they want saves on so much food waste and everyone is happy. And lastly it's much cheaper - I can not justify stupid amounts if money for pretentious food that gets left over.
It’s so great to find that one special person
you want to annoy for the rest of your life....

I have gone for the three course option and the choices I have gone for are along your standard soup, dinner and pud option with fancy names lol. The choices I am giving my guests are: Starter-soup of the season or Slow Cooked Ham Hock Terrine with Soft Boiled Egg & a Mustard Emulsion Main- Roast Pork Tenderloin with Sage Mash, Honey & Mustard Sauce or Chicken Mozzarella & Red Pepper Roulade with Sunblushed Tomato Pesto Desert-Banoffee Tart with Salted Caramel and Almond Praline or Lemon Meringue Pie, Strawberry and Liquorice Compote Vegetarians will have a menu designed specific for them. We can for the simple options as we will have 80 guests and wanted to make sure the majority are happy rather than a few being impressed with a fancy ingredient or not being sure they would enjoy it. The cost is £45 per person xx

I would rather have a sit down meal. Maybe you could ask the venue what they can do to make it a bit more special? x

We didn't want a traditional sit down as we think it's too rigid, but I also didn't want to see guests queuing for food - so we've gone for canapes as a start (9 in total) walked around by waiting staff, then the guests sit at tables for the speeches (and eating the cupcake favours along with the sweet tree centrepieces), then a selection of mini-mains will be walked out and served to the guests, which are like half portions so guests can help themselves to 2 or 3, and then we're having mini desserts on tiered cake stands coming out. Guests will be able to move about freely or sit at tables during all of this so hopefully we'll keep more of an informal yet slightly structured feel!
As the food is going to be staggered for 4.5 hours we're not bothering with an evening buffet as most of our guests will be grazing into the evening - and our evening guests will arrive around the time of the mini-mains and desserts so if they get some they are welcome!
Food inc staff, chair hire, crockery etc comes to £27 per head plus VAT. We thought this was pretty good as we designed the bespoke menus ourselves and think our guests won't be going hungry!
Canapes Steamed Siu Mai with Malaysian Chilli Dip Crispy Goosnargh Duck pancakes served with hoisin sauce Deep fried bean curd served with crispy leeks Tempura prawn served with a Chilli aioli Mini fish and chips served in the Financial Times with rock salt and cider vinegar Tempura vegetables Cornish Pasties with spiced brown sauce Thai Chicken and Lemongrass brochettes Mini cheeseburgers with tomato relish and smoked applewood cheese
Mini-Mains (please feel free to have 2 or 3!) Seared fillet of welsh beef served with au poivre sauce and chunky chips Salt n pepper king prawn served with vermicelli noodles, chilli and lime Stir fried vegetable rice noodles Lancashire Lamb Hotpot served with spiced pickled red cabbage Scarisbrick Mushroom and spring onion dumplings served with a lemon and soy syrup

A wedding I went to once had a hot buffet meal. Everyone still had designated places around each table, but they went and selected their own meats and veggies etc. There were several choices of meat, just like at a carvery and everything was delicious. Nobody thought they were being "cheap" for not having waitress service, and many people enjoyed the choice of options which they would not have had with a fixed menu.
Don't worry what other people think at the end of the day. They are getting a meal that you are paying for, and it would be very rude of them to make any judgement on it whatsoever. Do whatever makes you happy. It's your day.

If I was you I would speak to the venue. When we were looking we asked all the venue's if they were happy to do something that it's part of a set menu. We are having a 3 course meal, but have managed to get a choice of two starters and a trio of desserts for the same price as there bog standard 3 course meal. We didn't want a normal cold buffet for the evening reception and they offered us a bbq for the same price.

we are having a buffet followed by a hog roast later in the evening. Its personal choice, i wasnt worried about "seeming cheap" h2b and I are not sit down meal type people. We like the idea of being up mingling etc with our guests and i cant garauntee i will be really hungry for a sit downm meal and with a bufet the pressure is off me so to speak.
