... and the chefs said it was easy to cook ... they marinated stuff from the day before and then it was just putting vegetables in a wok.

If you want to keep costs down their are LOADS of options hunni.
We are having a 3 course meal after the service so to keep costs down we are just having bacon rolls and a sweet buffet with choc fountain at the reception.
But you could do thinks like a hot a nd/or cold buffet, a hog roast or even mini fish n chips ive seen done!

Are you having a wedding breakfast?

We too are having the 3 course wedding breakfast and because we arent really having many evening guests we have opted for bacon rolls for the evening as majority will be stuffed at wedding breakfast. There are lots of ways to keep it down though my first wedding i did on a shoe string and we had a hot buffet but if i remember correctly it worked out about 7 poun a head and we chopped the numbers down like venue told us so we had 100 guests and catered for 80 there was more than enough food

We're having a hot buffet at the wedding breakfast and a cold one in the evening. Haven't decided exactly that will include yet though

Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)

We are going for the traditional three course sit down meal for the wedding breakfast but for the evening reception we are having a hot roast served with chips so people can eat it on the go and soak up the alcohol.
Vicky2011 I went to a wedding last year at the end of the pier where my friend lived and they served fish and chips and it was fab. They didn't want the tradtional sit down meal either and it was really effective for the wedding-everyone commented on how great it was x

Cheapest thing I found was a carvery. Me and H2B get served, the others have to serve themselves. Yummy, loads of it and cheaper than the evening buffet!!!

Oh and don't do pudding, nobody cares about it, give them some cake ;) lol xxxx

We're having the traditional 3 course meal. At our venue they dont charge for each individual course seperately, they charge one price for the main course of your choice and then you have a list of starters and puds to pick one of each from. For example, we are having roast leg of lamb and trimmings @ £18.50 per head and that includes the starter we chose of leek & potato soup and the pudding we choose then coffee & mints

In the evening we are having bacon and sausage buttys @ £3.95 per head, so much cheaper than the buffet they were wanting £8 per head, and you can always have veggie sausages too!! We're serving the wedding cake in the evening too.

i am sooooo fussy and really not into all the posh food that most hotels etc give you options of. So we have changed ours to starters - good old prawn cocktail and button mushroooms on ciabatta bread with garlic sauce. Mains - Beef roast dinner and chicken wrapped with parma ham. Desserts - chocolate fudge cake and strawberry cheesecake. :)

and were having a bbq on the night!

We had a BBQ, cost half the price it would of if we had a 3 course sit down meal. It went down an absolute treat. All the guest were over the moon. Also had a choice of 2 desserts. It was a really hot day so just what we needed. Then just had a finger buffet in the evening.

Ive been asking venues to speak to the head chef and get back to me with prices for things like carvery and hotpot. One venue will do a 3 course meal with carvery instead of fancy meal for about £6 less than their meals advertised. I'm hoping hot pot will be even cheaper!

I've been going through some other ideas too, and considering emailing them again to ask about bangers and mash and fish and chips to see the prices of them, then for evening, something like chip butties or ham rolls!

Were prob dropping the starter and having a main meal of our choice and pudding of our choice then in the evening we wanted a hog roast but i was unsure on the dead pig coming to my wedding so the planner/cook said he will do roast pork joints, slice them up into rolls with apple.sauce and stuffing then hand them out to the evening guests they will also have cake and possibly a chocolate buffet x

In the evening we're thinking of having a cheese and crackers type buffet, with olives, bread, dips etc....plus of course the wedding cake.

Although we are having a hog roast for the buffett they will serve vegetable kebab skewers and salads as well so that the veggies will be catered for. It's the only thing that H2B has asked for with the wedding so will be wrong to say no.
