We have a slight dilemma which I think we've reached a decision to but would appreciate some opinions (nice ones though!)

We have found a photographer and videographer for £700 and we'd get coverage for the whole day from bridal preparations through to the dancing in the evening. The only downside is having watched the video, we aren't that fussed by it and they also have to travel up from Bodmin. Initially we thought this was great but having compared their work with others, it's not that great or anything that special....

Today, my Grandma has sent me a 'Getting Married in Dev0n' magazine from T3sco's she saw earlier in the week (very sweet of her!) and we've actually found an amazing photographer who we've been blown away by! She is more expensive at £795 with a potential upgrade to £995 if we have the money at a later date fingers crossed but her work is absolutely stunning, is exactly what we are looking for and has also photographed in both our venues before which we've seen photo's from and look amazing! She is also local and barely a mile away from both venues so there'd be no worry on getting her there early enough on the day.

My OH has said that she's not overly fussed about having a videographer and would prefer to spend a little more a decent photographer to get what we want especially as 'you get what you pay for' which makes sense so it's a little bit of a conundrum as obviously we want to get this right as it will be our only memories bar us remembering the day! My OH has suggested that we hand both the ushers a camera each and get them to film the day, granted it's not professional but then we also have something nice to look back on :) she's also suggested in the evening to set up the camera in the corner somewhere at the venue and ask people to record messages for us at the end which I think is a lovely idea!

I personally think we should go with the 2nd lady who's slightly more expensive but has fantastic pics but what's the general consensus? Any thoughts appreciated! :) xx

I agree with you, get the second photographer. She has a style you like and is local. What more could you want?

I would defo go with the 2nd lady if you prefer her work. We're not having a professional photographer at all and just asking guests to take as many photos as possible. That's what my Fmil did and also a friend of mine and their photos are fantastic and natural looking xx

Definitely the second one. You need to be 100% happy with your photographer, otherwise you'll only worry. The second on isn't that much more expensive, but it looks like you get a lot more. Xx

Go with the second, I agree what's the point of paying for the one your not fussed on just because you get the video as well, especially if your not bothered about having a video. I'm not bothered about a video, although I do love the idea of having a camera set up for people to leave messages for you both at the end :)

Definitely go for the second. With the pictures she's took at your venues before its a good insight as to what your pictures will look like with you and Debbie in them! My stepdad's brother recorded my mams wedding on a camcorder and gave them the DVD and it honestly is fine. The boring parts of everyone waiting around we're cut and it went from the ceremony til when we left, and straight to the speeches. Love the idea of leaving it for guest messages. X

definately the 2nd option - there's no point having a photographer/videographer whose work isn't what you want. My FSIL used a high quality camera and gave it to someone in the family who thought they could take photos and she regrets it totally - the pictures are not of a good quality and those that are OK are not in the style that she wanted to capture the day. She is quite artistic and wishes she had paid for a photographer who used that style.

Personally, I wouldn't use anyone whose work I wasn't sure on as I would be worried that it would affect the way I viewed to pictures...IYKWIM? x

I would go with the second one two. There's no point in paying for a video that you aren't happy with.

Thanks for all your opinions ladies - It was what we thought we'd do! I think we'll meet with her anyway as her photo's are nice but compared to the other one, they aren't anything special! I think we know we'll go with No. 2 so do we meet with No. 1? I'd feel bad asking her to come all the way up from Cornwall only for us to say no anyway :/ xx

Photographer!! I think the photos are more important. I like the idea of having a video camera somewhere where people can go and leave messages for you xxx
