    Hey ladies,

Just wondering what people think is an acceptable price to pay for photo and/or videographer!? Just seen a wall post on my wall from *************** I quite like the look of their full package for £1620 which includes (and I quote!):

"Full colour hard back coffee table book. Up to 100 of your favourite images in colour or black and white.

    PHOTOGRAPHY DETAILS

Photography coverage on the day is shot in both formal & reportage styles and includes bridal preparations, the service, formal bride/groom portraits, wedding party portraits, family & friends portraits, reportage reception shots, cake and ring detail shots, speeches, cake cutting, first dance and the band/dancing.

    - 8-10 hours of reportage and traditional photography.

    - Up to 700 edited & processed images on disc.
    - All images supplied on a disc in high & low resolution in colour and black & white.
    - No copyright of images.

    VIDEOGRAPHY DETAILS

We produce your wedding video just like the movies. Your day will be captured using a minimum of 2 professional high definition camcorders and can provide a TV and/or cinematic look.In your wedding video production we will feature interviews with your guests, documentary and news style showreels with music of your choice. In addition to a ‘coming soon’ trailer to show family & friends via the internet.

    - 8-10 hours of attendance for filming your day

-editing to DVD with music. Preparation, arrivals, ceremony (on approval), photoshoot, reception, speeches, cake cutting and of course the first dance. The atmosphere of your day will be captured forever.

    Price £1620"

But i just told my mate about it n she was like no way you can get the full lot for £500 if you look around - im thinkin that means the quality and time will be compromised!? I mean this guys looking at doing it from bridal prep to the first dance!

Im looking for somethign vibrant and quirky which seems to be what he offers. Not sure.

Any advice or just let me know what your paying n what it includes xXx

It honestly depends on what you want, some of the cheaper ones limit you to a time frame, or number of pictures.

I'm looking at paying £1650 for the photographer for the day, from the getting ready through until around 30 mins after the first dance. For this he will give me around 300-500 high quality pictures (copyright free) on a disk. No album, that's extra.

This is expensive, but the photographs are probably the most important thing for me, I'm happy to wear a £300 dress and £20 shoes as long as I get my photographer!

The only issue I have is that my day is short, with a late afternoon wedding, so I'm going to ask him to throw in a rock the frock shoot to, no harm in asking.

There will be cheaper out there, but the way I chose mine was to look at the style and quality of the photographer, next step is for me to meet with him, and hope I like him!! My worst nightmare would be to get a 'bargain' photographer and then end up with pictures that I hated.

i have 2 that I'm planning on meeting and they are about £1000+ for a similar package minus the videos you can get them for about £500 but know where near what you have put there £500 is a basic package

this is the basic package from one of them

    Your day
•Arrivals: Coverage of guest arrivals, groom & groomsmen and bride's arrival.
•Ceremony: In discussion with your celebrant I'll arrange to cover as much of your ceremony as possible (without making a nuisance of myself.)
•Groups: Although this style of photography is going out of fashion many brides do like to include family and friend groupings for their guests.
•The two of you: No wedding would be complete without bridal portraiture. Take a little time after your ceremony, at the church, venue or both and I'll make sure that your day to remember is captured forever.
•Reception: Low key reportage style photography that captures the true feeling of your event.

    Your images

    Preview box

Following customer feedback I've added a new element to the way you select your wedding images. As well as the traditional online gallery you'll also receive all of your finished images (80 to 100 on average) printed on 6x4 inch photographic paper in a smart black presentation box.

    Online Gallery

Once you've chosen the images you'd like your friends and family to choose from I'll post copies of your pictures to a password protected area of the gallery. Your guests and friends can then order high quality prints directly.

    Wedding Album

If you'd like to add a wedding album to your package you can choose the style and length of your album at your initial consultation (lots of gorgeous books for you to handle and browse) or you can wait until you've seen your images to decide on the length and size of your perfect wedding book.

All of our wedding albums are handmade and high quality and you can choose from digitally printed or traditional matted albums to suit your own taste and style. Prices start at £155.

    Notifications

If you'd like to appear in print (and who wouldn't?) I'll also submit an image to Lincolnshire Life , Lincolnshire Pride and your local newspaper.

We are paying £1695 and this includes two ppl unlimited time and unlimited photos.

The pics come on a disc and this is copyright free along with a catalogue.

Make sure that all your photos are copyright free otherwise they can sell ur photos to other companies and I'm sure u don't want that.

You can shop around but that was the one thing I wanted to pay out for as they are going to be with u for the rest of your life.

We are paying £1600 for unlimited time on the day including a photobooth - and an engagement shoot, with all photos on a disk. Our photographer just put his prices up by £250 and is fully booked.

Photos mean a lot to us, and as h2b works on a design magazine getting the right photographer was really important. We could of gone for someone a lot cheaper but no one else compared, even people who cost more!

I think that's pretty reasonable for what you're getting. I've come across photographers who would charge double that for half of what you're getting. But then again, I've come across ones who charge half that and you'd still get all that and I've been impressed with the quality of the photos.

It's a tough one to call I think. I've found it so much harder to compare photographers and packages/prices than say with venues. For me, it's not just about what you're getting and how much it is - it's about getting on with the person who's gonna be there, documenting your every move on the day! Speaking to some photographers at wedding fairs, some of them had packages that cost the earth, yet the photographer was completely unlikable and no matter how good their photos were, I wouldn't feel comfortable with them on my wedding day.

But in terms of price, I don't think price is everything - I imagine there are wedding photographers out there who haven't been doing this for very long and therefore they probably can't get away with charging a lot of money for their services, yet their photos might just be as good as someone who's been around for years and therefore can charge however much they want.

Sorry if that was a bit confusing - I've got photographers on the brain at the moment! I'm very impressed you've managed to narrow it down to one! We've got a shortlist of 8 that we want to meet...!!!

that seems pretty universal price for what they are offering from what we have found. our photographer has a few packages, and is also recommended by our venue, so as we r using him we get an extra 3 add ons too... such as larger album, £200 of prints, mini books etc. also a pre wedding shoot is included too. i think the package we r havin is £1500. the albums included are stunning also, so that makes it worth the price for us! xx

    I agree 100% with OWD.

I'd never ever pay £600 for a deal that includes more but whose style I don't like. I only choose according to the style of photography.

I also agree that this is the most important thing for me - I'm doing a bit of a gamble. I'll asked an aquaintance to do our photos. I saw her photos and just loved them, she uses the style and filter I am after. I doing a deal with her that she can use the pics forever for whatever she wants - portfolio, advertising... I don't need the copyright as long as I can do what I want with them. Not planning on selling :-)
It is a gamble because not only is she not a professional (which worries me less, there are countless so-called professionals with no talent) but she's never done a wedding. So it will be a risk - but I trust her and her pics are just so convincing for me.

We know of a photographer whose done several family weddings, his basic package or 150 photos on a disc and one a4 print is £350 and we cant even afford that!
We do have someone in the family fab at photo's, but we cant even afford to pay them the £200 theyd need...

so we are just relying on my OH's siter whose pretty good at photos, though never done a wedding before, and the photos of the guests. I am good at editing photos, and have a dslr we are lending my SIL

We had separate photographer & videographer.
Photographer was £650 for 3/4 day (no bridal prep, ceremony, reception to about 1 1/2 hours after 1st dance) - 470 hi res images on disc (no copyright), we didn't ask for an album.
Videographer was £550 for same (although we had a half price deal, should have been £1100) - 3 DVDs & 25 mini discs (and we got a free blu-ray disc for the testimonial)

We weren't going to have a videographer until I found the half price deal.

We went round and visited a few and felt we really noticed the difference with different personalities and cost packages - our photographer is coming in at 1650 but this includes an engagement shoot with all hi res images on disc, all day wedding photography from getting ready to the evening (about 11pm) with 2 photographers, a photobook album designed etc, a web gallery with web-friendly res photos and a disc of all edited hi res images that we can print from (this was really important to us as we want to send pics to overseas family etc with their thank you cards) - we saw some cheaper photographers and thought the style and photo quality wasn't what we wanted, it didn't seem worth the 500 for the day, and to get the hi res disc some wanted to charge us 450 anyway!

Video we got from a supplier on here, again it's full day from prep to end of the evening, 2 videographers, full editing to music, dvd menus with chapters, and 6 copies on disc with boxes etc for 800 which was discounted with 20% power user discount - again, it was the only videographer we found who we felt the videos weren't too cheesy...

If any of you want details then let me know and I'll message you :-)

    Our is as follows:

    Full Day Package: £595

One photographer covering the full day from start to finish is a standard price of £595. This typically includes all of the following but can be tailored to your exact requirements:

    Pre-wedding Location Shoot
    Bride and Groom's Preparations
    Venue and detail shots
    The Ceremony
    Wedding Breakfast / Speeches
    Group Shots and Portraits
Reportage Style Coverage throughout the Day
    Reception and First Dance
All photos from the day, in high resolution and copyright free, on DVD in a luxury presentation case

There is no set limit to the number of photos I will take on the day but there would typically be at least 300.

He has put his prices up to £695 this year but as we deposited last year we pay last years prices, we have asked for them on cd rather than DVD and he said that was fine.

£1620 sounds an awful lot considering you can get a photo book made online for £10

I almost don't want to join in. And yes I have got recommendations, looked at recent work, am happy with his work. We had expected £800 and copyright free was a must. We found one person for £600 for 6 hours and a disc. Petrol and overtime and albums were all extra. Then a mate kept trying to push his friend on us - to begin with we expected him to not be as cheap as our friend was saying, but after he left and we saw his price list we wanted to run down the road after him........so we are getting photography from getting ready to first dance - and wedding is at 11am 3 locations, around an hours travel between venues. Videography of the service. For £275. We get some prints, but if we want an album we can decide after the wedding, he has taken a deposit, where others have expected balance in full before the big day. He has no limit to the amount of photos either.

I am quite lucky to have a few photographer friends so I had a few options before I even considered a company. Our photographer is my MoH's friend, she's a very talented photographer and is doing the entire day as well as makeup for me and my BMs for less than £500 which is including travel costs to Spain! I'm also lucky that my MOH will be there with her camera as well so there will be lots from her too.

See i used to work for a p-hotography company and still talk to a few that still do photography but they all said they dont do weddings because they're used to portraits - im like i dont want nothing perfect! just to look pro and semi-natural! Hmm its hard really hard.

You just reminded me becky we're having a photobooth too in the evening but a photobooth cant really campture your first dance i guess :-/ pros and cons to all.

So is it a good thing if he does copyright the images or better if he doesnt? x

don't get hung up on the copyright issue - the main thing is you want a disc of edited, high resolution images, watermark free that you are able to reproduce - our photographer pointed out that he can provide this for us, but the image copyright is still his - which makes sense as he may want to use them on his website or for his portfolio etc. H2B was quite impressed he knew the difference as he works in business assurance and compliance, there were other photographers we saw who either wanted to charge up to £400 for such a disc or completely hold the images and you could only order prints from them!

One of the really good photographers I asked (another friend of friend who is absolutely fantastic), when I asked him if he would be up for doing our wedding, said he doesn't usually do things like that...which was fine but a bit disappointing, a lot of photographers aren't willing to work out of their comfort zone. Luckily Kat, our photographer is a wonderful lady and very talented so I'm glad she said yes and we get to have her awesome skills.

I'm not bothered about copyright either, as long as they will keep the photos so you can access them for prints or future use, it doesn't make that big a deal, it just means they can use the images which obviously is only a big deal if you really don't want people using your photos for advertising or anything.

We are looking at paying £350 for unlimited pictures put onto a disk as a family member has bought us an amazing photo album we want to use. My friend recently used the same photographer and her pictures were the best i have honestly ever seen, so many taken!!

Videography will be done by a family friend which has got the cost down a lot.

I'm meeting with a photographer on Monday night have a look at his portfolio and talk ideas i have seen some pics he has done at a wedding at my venue and really liked them and the style he uses would suit me cos i hate having my pic taken so he was more capture the moment type instead of posed hes prices are from £700 t0 £1100 depend on what you want and how many hours you want him for

Most quotes I've looked at range from 450-1200 but we have found some one who will do images on to disk for 250 i think what u pay for photos depends on what u want if u only want professional photos all day and lots of them ure gonna pay the higher prices but if like us budget is a strong factor along as the we have some professional photography we are happy

I'm paying £1300 for our photographer, we are not having a videographer as we have our family filming the day. our photography package is preparations in the morning the whole day up until our first dance the photographer will also have an assistant, and we will get an album and 3 kaleidoscope albums as well as all photos taken put on to disk, and we will hold the copyright. We are paying quite alot, but my H2B is a photographer by hobby so we went through dozens and he was happy with the one we have booked, and he said it will be memories, so he will pay more for decent photos we will have for life. Bless Him! xx

Ours is costing £1240 which doesn't include any prints an album or a cd. The cd cost is an extra £315.
Our budget for photography was £800 but I fell in love with the guys photos, he is absolutely amazing, and nothing like anyone else I have seen. H2B refused point blank to pay that much until I dragged him to meet the guy & we left in agreement that we had to use him.
We have him and another person all day from the bride preps up until the evening, including romantic shots after the meal, which is where his photo talents really are amazing :o) I think the photography is important, and more so that you feel comfortable with them. I met loads of different photographers at weddings fairs, cheaper and more expensive than what I'm paying but some of them I just couldnt imagine having there on the day! X

We are paying £1,800 for both photographer and videographer (they're brothers and work as a team!). This was one of the most important parts of the day for me. Photos and videos are one of the only things from the wedding that last forever and keep the memories alive! I know that this sounds like a lot but we did research and found that with the cheaper photographers, we were going to compromise on style and experience. I think that the price you've been quoted for the package that you've been offered is a good one and if you're happy with the photographer's style and manner (he will be the one that you spend the most of your day with!!) then go for it as long as your budget allows! xx
