Just posted a link on my wall for 'what not to wear to a wedding' all seems pretty obvious to me. Judging from some of the discussions on here maybe it should be printed and included in with invites. lol

haha dont think any of our guests would do any of them but you never know there is always 1. we may have a few cleavages around but then some of the guests would have trouble covering them.

I agree with the not wearing of jeans and t shirts - but some of the points are just stupid tbh.

The 'do not wear white' rule - it's not as if you're going to look anything like the bride, either in white or ivory. I don't think any guests would buy the full length bridal gown to wear as a guest lol.
The 'do not wear black' rule - what a load of rubbish. Some people (myself included) feel more confident in black, or don't like wearing bright colours. Personally if I was a guest I wouldn't discard black.

They all do seem pretty obvious ... but some people really don't think. I had someone in white, someone in black and someone in a tight little lacy number that made her look naked in some of the black & white photos! I'm going to her wedding later this year and keep seeing tiny little dresses that I could wear to get her back - but I wouldn't feel comfortable (also she has a very manly stance so doesn't really great in a mini skirt!)

Well Mym you say that about guest and weddingy dresses but whilst looking for my wedding dress, I read a review on what was obviously a wedding dress and a woman had put that she'd bought it to wear at her sisters wedding!
There have also been some posts on here where ladies have had to tell their guests that the dress they've chosen is too 'wedding dress' and request they change it.
They seem obvious to us but some people have no idea of what's inappropriate.

Mel, maybe you could get some pictures of completely inappropriate dresses and ask her to choose which one she thinks would be best. Or find something really bad and just tell her that's what you're wearing. That way, you don't feel physically uncomfortable on the day either

LOL I could, but I'm not so mean that I want to add to the stress of her day ... what I could do is wear my wedding dress to hers! (btw NOT being totally ignorant, it's being dyed so it's not going to be ivory anymore, it's going to be purple) But I think I'll just find a nice dress and wear that.

Hah, wish I could email this to my sister. She wants to wear one the dresses she wore at her own wedding to mine. It's very bridal so I'm not happy and I've made my feelings very clear about it.

well i did this mistake once i wore a white/silver snake skin print dress it looked lovely though... lucky me the bride wasn't wearing white she had a bright red dress on which matched my bright red hair color exactly at that time :D
not going to wear white again though... last wedding i went to i wore a red dress but heard u should wear red either as its to attention seeking ... good job it was only an evening do and i matched it with purple shoes, handbag & and a lace bolero sort of thing...

does seem i havent been very clever regarding my wedding outfits in the past... but really need to keep that list in might for the next wedding i go to :) and hope no one will be ruining my wedding with those things but tbh i would care regarding the black thing if its mixed at least with a bit of color... only thing i dont want at my wedding is guests wearing aqua and fascinators (gonna put probably a pic of those in the invites from the royal wedding as there were perfect example of some i really not liking them)

i work in a concession in debs and youd be so surprised how many people come in and say 'im looking for something to wear to my mates wedding' me-'so you have a style or colour in mind...?' the lady-'yeah i want white...'

i have been known to say 'will your friend not mind you wearing white...?' that usually gets them thinking!! xx

I went to an evening do at the weekend and i wore a cream dress. i figured it was knee length i teamed it with a brown wast belt and brown shoes - it didn't look remotely bridal. So i think that one depends on the dress.
