We are doing our own buffet too, quite lucky that we can order food through h2b works food catalogue at discounted price. So I have made a list of stuff I like, including the normal stuff like pork pies etc. but also mini crostinis, mini burgers, canapes, patisserie style cakes and pastries, prawns in batter, pate, bread rolls and lots of cakes! Going to get fresh strawbs from supermarket though as it is probably similar price and having a candy buffet too for big and small kids alike, lol. Ordering lots of cheeses and crackers too, as me and h2b love eating that sort of thing, practically lived off it in France! Just have what you fancy, and if your guests don't like it they can lump it or go to McD's after your wedding is finished, lol. :) xx

I think it sounds like you are feeding the entire world, lol, so yeah it sounds good! How many guests have you got coming, 200 cupcakes would keep me busy, lol. I have to say my personal favourite from going to buffet weddings as a child was the cocktail sausage, cheese and pickled onion on a stick, all stuck into a foil covered melon, made to look like a hedgehog, god i hope that has a name, lol. But delish and will probably make one for my wedding just for me! :) x

I remembered that your h2b is a traveller just after i posted, as i started that thread and have been reading the posts on and off. I watched it last night with my h2b and that is the one thing that i wondered about, how do you know how much food to put on when you don't know how many guests are going to be there. I would get so flustered about it, but at least you know that no food will be wasted. Don't forget about stuff like tortilla crisps or bread sticks with lots of dips, i love dips, lol. Listen to me talking like I am coming to your wedding, feed me feed me! ;) x

We're thinking of doing our own catering when we have our evening reception - and found Costco is really good for bulk buying of food (they do trays of sandwiches, large square pizzas, indian/chinese snack boxes etc) and are really reasonable.

When i did the buffet for my boys christening we did a massive joint of beef, ham and pork, cheese board and grapes, chicken drumsticks, bread rolls, salad, sausage rolls, crisps nuts etc.
We decided to do the meat instead of making a ton of sandwiches and having loads of one flavour left.

I still think that the 70's knew how to do a good buffet. I'm still a big fan of cheese and pineapple on a cocktail stick ;)
