I've just had my aunt ont he phone asking me what Gothic Victorian is.

She's been to a couple of fancy dress shops and one of them was showing her stuff that made her look like Maid Marian!!

Now i know what it is - its my wedding theme - but i would be interested to know what you all thought and see how different your ideas are....

Gothic victorian - maid marian - eerrrrr not something i expected in the same sentence.

For gothic victorian I expect corsets, petticoats, long dresses/skirts.
Probably similar to Interview With the Vampire (Tom Cruise/Brad Pitt) style.
Some Pencil skirts can work too. :)

I would say long dresses for women, frock coats and top hats for men. Not an era I know much about! But maid marion?

Disclaimer before I make my comments with limited insight - Im not the brightest bulb in the pack

I imagine Gothic victorian to be really oppulent and dramatic with rich purples/black jacquard etc... Bustles, long long gloves.

Gothic victorian Bramstoker/Byron/Shelley/Polidoris etc...type fiction like The Vampyre, The Necromancer etc... Edgar Allen Poe whos books used to give me nightmares!

ermmm femme fatales, fallen angels, vampires.

I have a feeling Im very very wrong. xx

    mmmmmmmmmmmm, vampires *drools*

sorry, someone said something and I went into a daydream!!

Yes, I would have said the same as the above (not the maid marian thing) but the whole medievil castles, dark purple or dark red long skirts and tight corsets with boobs ready to burst out if you take a deep breath, black beaded lace chokers, dark makeup and pale faces and oh....so....sexy!! :)

You know what'd make it MORE sexy??? LEATHER!!!

    (p.s. I'm not drunk!)

corsets, long skirts, petite hats only suitable to be on fascinators, dark e.g. black with dark red, green or purple. In a word gothic victorian is elegance. xx

Lace, velvet, long ruched dresses with lots of layers. Rich colours, reds, purples and black. Corsets for the gals, loose victorian style shirts and long dark trench coats for the guys. Little too dark for old Maid Marian me thinks! lol

Queen Victoria in mourning! she is erm, victorian and wore black for years cause she stayed in mourning for so long so that makes her a goth! kinda

and all of her marquisite jewellry she introduced.
