i'm not too fussed about the weather. i hope its nice obviously so we can get some nice pix in the hotel garden but im staying at our venue so there is no traveling and transfering from car to church to venue so if it rains, its not the end of the world for us xx

Primark (am I allowed to say the shop name?) have some very pretty umbrellas at the moment - they are quite big too. Not sure if they have white ones but they def have pastel colours. Not too expensive either - I think about £4.00 each

Hi all,
I shot a wedding video once and it thundered and lightened like you wouldn't believe. The car supplier kept the bride in the car for ten minutes hoping it would clear but it didn't. In the end, they used big golfing umbrellas to get the bride into the church. The video doesn't show it, but the guests were looking up at the church roof and worrying because the storm was causing years worth of dust to fall on them!
You can see the video on my website portfolio if you like (Gill and Martin). Rain doesn't show up well on film or video, so if you can actually see it, it was bad. When they do rain in Hollywood films for instance, they use special hoses to dump tons of water on the actors to make it look real!
The wedding was still a great day and nobody complained about the weather. If anything, it made it a day to remember. :-)
The short version is.... make sure your wedding suppliers are prepared for bad weather. I am sure they will be. This IS the UK after all!
Kind regards,
Andrew. www.carillonvideo.co.uk

On Confetti they have white (and ivory) umbrellas - they are half price this week (£8.74), so I think this will work out cheaper than hiring them. Anyone else getting umbrellas? On ebay, they have 4 for £29.99, which works out cheaper than Confetti.
I HOPE they won't be needed but is it worth getting them just in case? I could sell them afterwards...

Top tip - if you are having wedding cars check with them to see if they provide umbrellas, ours do. Comes with the cars. So no need to buy them then!
CommentAuthorXLittleMissMe!X
I would say check out your car hire people. Mine come with armed with the big white umbrellas so I don't have to worry and by the time they have gone I won't have to go outside again.
I personally although think that the prices are better would not pay out for them on the off chance it rains as no one will see them anyway.

Lol Jane you beat me to it.

I'm not sure if I'm having a car yet as we might be getting ready at the venue; top tip though!
But since the outside space is so lovely at our venue, I'd want pics outside even if it was raining. Everyone else can suffer lol!

I'm terrified that it's going to rain on my wedding day- also a bank holiday
Do find out from your venue if they'll have umbrellas on standby for wedding guests (ours does- yay)
CommentAuthorJilly17
If it is going to rain, well it is going to rain! Nothing we can do about it! Another reason we dont want to spend a fortune on a posh venue which I cant walk around in. My friend got married in a marquee 21st June and it was literally a monsoon! It was still a beautiful day though and no one really cared. I think it is important for a photographer to either know or visit your venue just in case!
