Has anyone else out there given anything up for their wedding, my other half and me have both given up smoking When we sat down and worked it out we realized we spent over £3000 a year on ciggs (I nearly cried when I think How much I've spent over the years) £3000 will pay for a lot of our big day so it's a very good incentive.

H2B is giving up smoking as well. He had given up just after we first met, and he did it for just over a year, then a lot of things got him down and he went back to it. But he has told me that he is going to give it up again. He spent about £700 on baccie. I've given up my fashion magazines and home magazines. I spent about £300 a year on magazine "/

We have given up eating out and buying bits that we dont really need (have to admit I was the main culprit of this!). But it is hard when I think I have nearly another 2 years of not doing this, but hopefully it will all be worth it in the end :) xx

We have given up going out, completely!! LOL we've not had any little breaks away, which we normally like to do. Cut back on our shopping, not buying the things we don't really need. But it's all going to be worth every sacrifice :) xx

We didnt give up anything to be honest, our wedding was affordable because we made it small...16 people including ourselves.
We didnt want to have a huge wedding anyway, but if I had had to give anything up I wouldnt have been happy, because I actually dont DO much as it is. I smoke.....well we both do, but I dont drink, dont go out for meals, only on special occasions like birthdays etc, I dont spend lots of money on clothes or getting my hair done.......

What was there TO give up? LOL

So we carried on as normal, gave ourselves a year to pay for the wedding, and scaled it down by way of guest numbers, and then we could have everything we wanted, the venue, the reception, the meals etc.....just smaller and affordable. and it was perfect.
Perfect for US......maybe not for everyone .... but we were more than happy.

We're generally trying to watch what we spend, particularly on take aways and and stuff from that huge "rain forest based" online store beginning with an A! Both H2B are terrible when it comes to splashing cash on boxsets and books! We've started being good and just "loving film" instead of actually purchasing. We've also banned ourselves from buying movies from the Tv on demand at nearly £4 a go for one watch! Ridiculous when you work out how much you're spending isn't it!

As for takeaways we've starting making the effort to go out instead in the week that way we can use a special card that helps us "taste" it for just half price! A good investment when it's on offer as you soon make you're money back and you can still justify the odd meal out if half of it is free!

Hope my coded message made sense!! Happy saving folks!! x

We are cutting down our Xmas spend by half, I am going onto those e cigarettes as a hopeful prelude to completely stopping.

We have only had one weekend break this year :-( and aren't going out for meals etc which we used to do once a fortnight at least.

Trying to give up takeaways and going out to pubs etc too xx

We've just completely minimised the spending. set a fortnightly meal plan and only buy what is needed for that fortnight, and we do that shop online so we're not tempted to sneak things into the trolley! We aren't going out and fill the car up twice a month rather than putting little bits in here and there (which somehow uses more fuel!).. and we've gone through the house for things to sell to add directly to the wedding fund. It's hard for us as we don't go out huge amounts and neither of us smoke (or drink at home), so its difficult to find things to stop! Ooo and we take money out the casshpoint and spend the cash rather than putting it on the card. anything left over that day goes in a pot (unbreakable!) xx

I think we all deserve a well done! Looks like we've all been down sizing and snipping the purse strings left right and centre! I 'm hoping I'll actually learn to live without the odd thing for after the wedding so I can start generally saving more! It's amazing how much cash you waste on things when you are not actually keeping track of it! I think saving for the wedding has really made us look at how we spend for the better! x

We've given up a proper holiday this year. Other than that, we're managing okay. There's things we're putting off, like a new garden fence! We're still eating out occasionally and having the odd take-away, but I'm really struggling without having a holiday, that probably makes me shallow - but I need some sunshine!!!

OWB it's not shallow at all! We all need to get away from things every now and again! It does you good to have a holiday. Plus, SAD is a proven things isn't? That seasonal something disorder where if you don't get enough sun - i.e vitamin d it makes you depressed. Well at least i think it's a real thing? !! x

TBH we didnt really give anything up as we knew what we could save per month keeping our lifestyle as it was and realised we needed 18 months ish to save up to the figure we needed to set the date accordingly.... I did give up shoes though to a degree as I brought a lot less

I didn't want to resent getting married and it being a chore to save so had our normal holiday this year and i do not want anything wedding related for my birthday or Christmas so instead i gave up smoking (saved £100 a month) and cut take outs/pub to once a fortnight..... surprisingly these small changes have made a big different to us and just generally being more careful with money.

It''s only been 2 weeks the Oh been off them for a month, haven't seen much of a saving as we've had to have a lot of work done on the car (mot time) and some one locked the keys in the car last weekend so it cost us £65 for a locksmith coz we were stuck in the middle of a campsite in northumberland but today I've bought a money box that wont open unless you attack it with a saw and I'm going to put the price of a packet in every day. Don't do take away as OH works 2 nights a week as a delivery driver and gets a free meal when he finishes, and as for going out we used to go out every other saturday night but for the past couple of months we haven't bothered. Reading this back to myself I think I'm going to end up fat and boring

One of the reasons we picked our date is so we could still save for the wedding but still have and do everything we normally do as we thought it was unfair to the kids having to go without something because of our wedding!
