I was just wondering what everyone had found most difficult to decide on during there planning?

So far for us the Venue was a little stressful but once we saw the one we wanted it all was super easy. The thing i'm really struggling with is the cake!! I just think it's the thing i'm least interested in and so just can't seem to make a decission!

So, what have you found most difficult to decide on? (Excluding the guest list as everyone struggles with that)

Mine was my band, I really loved them at my friends wedding, but they are £1,000 and we didn't know whether we could justify spending that!!

I really wanted them though so in the end we got them, I had to compromise and said H2B could go on rugby tour next year though!!

I spent a lot of time researching venues, looking at hundreds briefly online, then about 4 dozen in more detail (going onto their websites, getting quotes, etc). But when it came to actually viewing them, our decision was easy; I viewed about 12, and ours was the third I viewed (very nearly didn't look at it as it wasn't 'traditional' (eg stately home with loads of outside space) and it looked VERY expensive, but my parents had been to a wedding there and persuaded me). It was literally love at first sight; I just walked in and went 'wow', and it just got better and better; it ticked all our boxes (complete exclusivity was really important; we also discovered we actually wanted something a bit different to the standard cream rooms with chair covers and sashes etc; and the space flowed really well (some we looked at the space just didn't work eg the smoking area was down two flights of stairs, or the bar was separate to the reception room, etc). My OH came with me when I went for a second viewing (at this point I still had half a dozen appointments) and was like 'this is it, I'm not interested in seeing any others but if you want to and find anything better, let me know'. I didn't find anything better, so we booked it lol.

For us I think the photographer has been the biggest headache. I've lost count of how many I've looked at but it's got to be around the 100 mark. I didn't really realise that style and quality can vary so much. We're also going to be spending over double what we originally budgeted to get what we want, so that hasn't helped with the stress levels lol.

Other than that, things have been easy; found a really good make-up artist and cake maker at an open day at our venue, and will be booking them; I knew what shoes I was having from before we got engaged, and they were my first purchase; I bought my dress at a sample sale for 60% off, and it was my first trying-on experience; I'm not really fussed about the flowers; and our venue is really beautifully decorated so I don't need to worry about decorations. Our guest list has also been easy; we've invited our 'nearest and dearest' to the day and have been firm about not inviting people we aren't close to to the day, compromising and giving the evening invites instead.

Oh dear Mrs Bram! Don't give up! I had a moment where I thought we'd never find somewhere we liked that we could afford but then my mom persuaded me to go and see a place i'd originally said no to after looking at their website - thankfully she has already been there and just kept saying "honestly that is not how it looks in real life" so eventually out of desparation i agreed to go with her and i loved it so much we booked it the next day!! Some wedding places really need to photograph every bit of the place - this one has missed off what I think is the most beautiful bit of it! A really lovely big conservatory that looks out over a beautiful garden and then on to a goreous canal! On the website they just had the big "hotel" style room pictured which i hated!

Don't ignore any venues! Go to them all even if you think you won't like them! I certainly am glad i did in the end!!

Oh lizzy Im glad I not the only one, i am trying to be not so picky (h2B says i being a snob about the venue but I jsut know what I like and dont, nothing to old fashioned but not to modern lol)

I am starting to look at places that I had dismissed but its not the venues that are actually putting me off most of teh time its the price lol x

It was the venue for us and for three months I was ready for having a breakdown over the sheer expense of venues alone then one day I had a brainwave and asked the manager of a stately home if I could simply just hire their ballrooms for the day and surprisingly he said yes. I never felt such relief in all my life.

So far we've not really found anything hard to decide on, it's all been fairly easy. I reckon though we will find it difficult to decide on hymns, readings and first dance song when we have to get round to deciding in the new year.

Barbie I know what you mean about photographers! They are all so different. We've been very lucky in that a friend of one of the ushers who my h2b knows (really just to say hello to and not much more) is a photographer and has offered to do it at a really reduced rate for us.

It seems so far that the venue gets the highest vote for stress levels! I think once that's done other things start to fall in to place.

^^I don't know, I kind of think wedding planning is as stressful as you make it in a lot of ways. Like us with the photographer, if we weren't being so fussy, it would have saved a lot of stress; it's only because we want something so specific that it's been difficult to find (we like artier photography, and not many I've looked at do it well). Similarly with the venue, we were probably fussier than most; a lot of people for example probably wouldn't stress over the space not flowing perfectly (we wanted everything eg bar, dancefloor, seating, smoking area, toilets in one continuous space so it didn't become fragmented; a lot of venues we looked at didn't offer this), or there not being any beer on draught, or the ceremony taking place in the same room as the reception, etc. I'll admit we've been very particular about these two things which is probably why we've found them toughest lol.

Whereas with the cake we were like 'we want a cake that tastes great, if the designs are great that's a bonus'; with the flowers, I'll give the florist a colour and budget and rough idea of style (eg I don't want country/vinatge) and ask them to come up with 3 different options, then just pick one; I can't be faffed stressing. I also don't care if the BM dresses match, or if the flowers match the detailing on the invites, etc. With family/guest list politics our stance is simply 'we will not compromise on the guest list and will invite who we want to invite', and have no issues being really blunt with people. I do think sometimes you can get caught up in the details and lose sight of the bigger picture, and create more stress for yourself.

I think you're right about the venue barbie - for us the most important thing was making sure the guests are well catered for! We figured they will enjoy nice food and drink more than they will looking at a particular type of bow on a chair! lol. I'm very much like you, don't mind if the bridesmaids dresses don't match , not fussed about shoes or hairs etc, we're not bothering with favours either, but for some weird reason i seem to have reached a total stop when it comes to the flip flopping cake!!! No idea what is up with me, i don't think i'd really have one if left to decide but its the one thing my mom keeps saying "people expect a cake" about so ..... fingers crossed i'll think of something!! x

It was the first dance for us. We spent ages listening to the radio trying to find a song we liked with the right lyrics. It's amazing how many songs there are about breaking up. Then We had to find a song we both agreed on and a version we both liked, which took at least 2-3 months in all. But we've now chosen and we both love it!

our hardest thing was actually the seating plan as this had to be changed so many times and chosing a menu as we were only allowed to give one option and a veggie option.

After the big day our hardest choice has been going from 794 photies to 80. We settled in the end on I think 85.

Ihad a look at the menu for the venue and theres stuff on there ive never heard off, and if im honest, although i love our venue, we cant get outside caterers in and im really not keen on the majority of the stuff on there.

To start with it was the church, h2b wasn't sure but I had my heart set on it but he gave in. Then it was probably the flowers, they took the longest to sort out but I think that when it comes down to finally doing it it will be the seating plan which will be the hardest thing to decide what with recently divorced friends both of whom are coming, one of which wants to bring their new partner, feuding family members and stubborn guests who will refuse to sit next to other guests.

Well my dress was not a hard decision when I saw it I wanted it, the prob was the place has stopped selling it so I had to hunt down the designer to make me my own (a lot cheaper than you imagine and it is not a trad dress) which took almost a year and I was getting no where finding an alternative.

My biggest nightmare is the rings, his to be precise. We are having a budget wedding but were willing to fork out a bit more for the rings (we want palladium as its cheaper than platinium but more durable than white gold), but can not find the style he wants (and I love) at any where near a decent price! If worse happens we may just choice the jewelers that can do it cheapest and pay the amount we have saved for the rings and see if they will let us pay off the rest in bits after the wedding - though I will try and do what I usually do at work all day and get them to lower the price : ) My feller says its scary when I do that, lol

I was fussy over the photographer, because im a photographer myself. I only wanted the best! In the end I found someone that wasnt pushy and I felt completely comfortable in front of. I asked myself 'would I care if this guy was watching as I got my dress on?' there was a couple that I said a definite no to on that question!

The cake caused a few headaches, I ummed and ahhhed over whether to get it done by a shop but then nans have come to the rescue and decided theyre making it.

Music will be a hard one for me as Im also a musician! Music is really important to me so my choices will be well thought out. H2b gets to pick the first dance though xx

I would like the works on my wedding day really, nice big floral arrangements, sparkles everywhere ;) and a lovely venue for photographs but its kills me seeing the price of everything.. Even the price of a church or registrar wedding is mad ( in my opinion anyway).

As we decided to save a lot more especially as we want to get a house first I know I will have time to work out the details!
