I'm just looking for a bit of advice over the invites. I'm ordering my STD this week (getting from v!sTa and on offer) however its showing me all the different 'related' items I can order as well. Now there are SO many things on them - and I have never been invited to a wedding before - so I'm really confused on what I put in the invites etc?! Its driving me insane that I literally have no idea! All the items just look really plain and like not a lot of information goes on them.... do I add a random bit inside to mention about staying over? And the cost? How about the menu choices? And the fact that no children are invited to the wedding/meal. What about any directions etc? Then there's the rsvp....? Then I've got the issue about evening guests only - I'm thinking I dont send them STD cards but then do their invites go out the same time?
I'm, sorry for the mega essay its just been playing on my mind for weeks now and the more I look at invites the more confused I get!! x

With our invites we are also including an insert for venue information/details (including how to book a room and the rate), a honeymoon wish poem and an RSVP card, so we will have 4 bits in total.
I would say add a note about no children onto your invitations rather than providing another insert. If your guests are choosing their meals then I would ask them to mark their choices on the RSVP card (so they only have to return 1 thing to you, rather than several bits); however, if it's a set menu like ours, we're not bothering letting people know. We are just asking if anyone has any dietary requirements on the RSVP card, but if not, they will just find out what they are eating on the day!
You could send 'save the evening' cards to your evening guests if you wanted to, to make it clear that they are invited to the evening only and not the whole day. I wouldn't worry about sending their invites out at the same time as the day guests - we are going to send our evening invites out about 2-3 months before, with our invites to day guests going out 5-6 months before.

Oh thank god that makes so much more sense now! lol, I dont know why but I've never been able to get ym head around the invites and its been driving me potty! some invitations we've been looking at look so basic I've not know where to add anything!

All we are including is the invitation its-self and an RSVP card as we aren't asking for gifts or money and we don't need directions etc, as most people know where our venue is and for those who don't we have included full address on the invite so they can put that in their satnavs.
As Flossie said I would add something on the RSVP about menu choices rather than having a separate insert, this would be cheaper for you and also easier for guests as they only have to send one insert back to you. We are just having a buffet so don't need this but if I was I would of put it on the RSVP.
On the ceremony invitations I would make it clear that it is adults only, either by addressing it only to the adults or adding a little note and the bottom of the invite. You wouldn't need an extra insert for this.
You could send save the evening cards to the evening guests however you wouldn't need to send these out until much later than the save the dates as most people would have evenings free so wouldn't have to worry so much about booking time off etc. I am not sending save the evenings as there are not many more guests than the daytime so I am just going to send both lots of invites out around 5 months before the wedding x

It depends on what information you need. We had an insert with details of the gift list, an insert with details of hotels for those travelling, and an RSVP card, which asked guests to indicate any dietary requirements. Our venue required us to choose a set meal for all our guests, but they then altered it where necessary for individuals. Address details for the venue went on the main invitation, we didn't bother with driving directions as people could get that from the post code.

Is it ok to put in the RSVP how many seats we reserved for the guest/guests? It would be a way to make the guests sure they can't have plus ones lol But don't know if it looks rude.

I was also unbelievably confused lol.
We ended up going with a pocket-fold design with the invitation printed on it (which obv included date, time and place of the ceremony, and then had a line with 'reception to follow at...').
Then we included an information card which had more detailed info on both venues (full addresses); accommodation at our venue (inc rates and who to contact); travel/parking info (details of 3 municipal car parks); and finally our wedding website address and password which guests could visit for more detailed info.
We also had personal RSVP cards, as we were offering a lot of choices and felt that this was the easiest/simplest way to do it for both us and the guests; guests had to select if they were coming, and then choose from the menu options.
Finally we included a SAE so guests could easily (and quickly lol) send them back to us.

I started looking for pocket folds but gave up as couldn't find them as cheap as I'd hoped! We're opting for a 'parcel' instead, so having everything loose and tying together with twine into a little package x

Oh no, not a box or anything. Literally just all the inserts tied together using twine and then popped in an envelope :-) so looks like a cute little parcel, but is not an ACTUAL parcel lol x

Ours were REALLY expensive :-/ Day invitations cost £7.20 each and evening ones (smaller,simpler, fewer inserts) were £5. I could have DIYed them but ran out of time, plus the materials were going to cost like £5 per invitation anyway, so we wouldn't have saved much with the number of guests we had. That said, if you made your own from scratch (I was looking at buying the invitations pre assembled then just adding ribbon etc myself), you could probably do the style we had for about £2.50/3 per invitation.

Ok, I've already created the design (still need to check with h2b, but I can change whatever he wants), and I've checked on V1st@Pr1nt the prices for printing them, and it will cost like £18 for 40 invites! I've found the pocketfold envelope plus the traditional envelope for about £1.10... I'm planning to spend less then £2/invite, cause I will pay loads on posting them to Brazil.

I have made some one the comp and got the card etc but I'm self doubting myself that I can do it lol!! I'm fairly confident i can do it got all the ribbon and butterflies and sparkles etc i just dont want to mess them up lol!! might make a rough one then post on here for you to judge for me lol xx

Kayleigh: I'd say just allow plenty of time, and get extra materials so you can do a few trial runs ;-) I made all our stationery from scratch, apart from the save the dates (which I had printed and then added ribbons and embellishments to), and the invitations (could have made them but ran out of time!). I did the seating plan, reserved cards, personal menu/place cards, table names and thank you cards myself and they turned out really well; I was very pleased with the results and we saved quite a lot; around £300 :-) It was very time consuming though, and took a while to perfect my technique/find the best method of sticking them etc (ended up using mainly double-sided tape, with glue dots to stick the embellishments on).

The easy part for me is that I'm quite traditional lol So our invitations will be really simple (REALLY SIMPLE!), so it won't be that hard. I've done 9 models so far, so h2b can choose next March, when I am going to visit him. I want to make the pocket fold one, with the main insert in white, and a background (still don't know the colour). In the pocket, informations like rsvp, accommodation, addresses and things like that. I've just done a research and fond out that printing myself would be so much cheaper than printing with v1st4pr1nt. But I don't trust my printer for this, so planning to go to a local print shop, and ask them if I provide the paper, how much they would charge for printing :) I bet it will be SOOOO much cheaper lol

Ours came from V15t@ too.
Basic info went on the invitations themselves - date, time, church and reception venue, "carriages at midnight" and date RSVP due.
Then we included in the envelope the RSVP cards themselves, asking for - name(s), confirmation attending or not, meal choice (meat or veggie), any special dietary requirements (allergies etc.)
We also put in with the invitation and RSVP and "addtional info." sheet - full addresses of church and reception venue, reitterate date RSVP's due, wedding gift list info, meal choice (what the meat was - chicken, and the veggie option), local accommodation choices if people chose not to stay at the reception venue (or it got fully booked or was too expensive) our contact details and info on our "no children" policy.

I didn't know they did pocketfold styles, I just got the standard ones and chucked everything in an envelope lol once I found the design I loved.
Maybe try a different supplier, there's loads out there if you g00gl3.

We have included a line on the invitation along the lines of 'due to the nature and small size of the venue, we're afraid we can only accommodate the children of immediate family'.
With regard to the inserts, we have the RSVP obviously, and we've included postcodes for sat navs, parking info for the church and venue (parking isn't great for the church) and the website for the nearest hotel if people want to stay over. I've tried to keep the wording to a minimum but it was difficult.
