Hey Ladies!! What are you giving your evening guests to eat??
We are having BBQ style food and salad in evening for our guests, chocolate fountain and thinking of having the cake served then.
How many/percentage of your guests are you catering for in the evening?? Our day guest will be getting a 3 course sit down meal, so don't want to have too much food in the evening as think its a waste...just wasn't sure what percentage to cater for...help!!! x x
CommentAuthorkrissy905
we are having a savory cold buffet a sweet buffet and will also cut the cake and use that to as we dont have many more coming to the evening then we did the day i will cater for about 75 to 80% i think may be a bit less as we have a lots of children
CommentAuthorJanie
We have about 45 more guests in the evening. We're catering or them all as only having a cheap buffet someone is doing for us.
I havent really had aany say at all in what is made for the buffet, my MIL has told the caterer what we want as she did my SIL's wedding, and has been instructed to "just do the same", which is all pies, sausage rolls, sarnies, quiche, savely or beef dips etc, depsite me having a wheat allergy!
Think I am going to be poutting my foot down to be honest

we are not having an evening reception as such, but the hangers on from the day we will order bar meals, but if we had been having an evening reception we would have had a hog roast......
I can resist anything but temptation
CommentAuthorJanie
oooh we would LOVE a hog roast, just cant afford it. I usually get one once a year, in a bun at the air show lol

me too! I work at RAF Cranwell, and we get free tickets to the Waddington air show.....and always have a hog roast in a bun, with apple sauce and stuffing! Also there is a vintage war weekend 2 miles from here every August, and we go to that....and have one there aswell.
We could have had a hog roast for £14 per person but we have to have a minimum of 40 people.....we only have 24

we are having a cold buffet and i am only catering for half the guests. as half of them would of eaten a three course meal before.
also we have the cake to be served as well as a sweet buffet x
CommentAuthorkirstyless
We're having some nibbles and the cake being served. 90% of the people there will have been their for the wedding breakfast anyway.
CommentAuthorSian''OCD''Holkham
We are having mini fish and chips, mini burgers and mini hot dogs catering for all our guests ooh and a sweety buffet too x
We are just having Bacon rolls, abit of salad and the sweetie table and choccy fountains will be available still. If there is any cakes left we will ask for them to be put out aswell!
We will cater for about 65 people based on 80 in the evening as, people will eat as its free food haha, and we are only having an afternoon tea for the wedding breakfast.
Ceremony is at 3pm, Sit down at about 5pm, Evening guests to arrive around 8pm everybody clears off home/back to hotels etc.. at Midnight.
CommentAuthormillz090
Sian - i love that idea.... went to a wedding reception recently and they did mini fish and chips and everyone loved it.
We are doing a selection of local cheeses, pates, fruit and then cutting the cake. We didnt want a beige buffet as it reminds me of a kids party.
We are caterring for 100 people and 140 evening guests but 80 of them would have just eaten a 3 course meal xxx

I'm giving our directions to the burger stall! Seriously though, I haven't planned any formal evening food as we're changing venue between the day and evening receptions. The evening venue is a bar but they do serve food, so we'll probably ask them to put some nibbles on.
If only life could be one long tea break
CommentAuthorHelenW
We haven't decided yet. We've done the cost estimate based on having the evening buffet, but we may do bacon rolls. Our venue said we have to cater for 95% at least! x

We've been told to cater for 100% of our adult evening guests, but as about 70% will have been there in the day too I know we won't need food for all of them, so I'm just going to give slightly lower numbers than we're actually having. We're having 135 in the day and close to 200 in the evening so I don't think they'll notice if we've got 180 or 195 people there!
Very happy to say I'm now Mrs Keates and loving it!
CommentAuthorInDreamland
I don't think we'll have many extra evening guests and the venue said that catering for 75% of the day guests will more than cover it for everyone there in the evening.
We're planning on having hog roast for the evening buffet which comes with jacket potatoes and salady things. Might serve up some of the wedding cake then too xx

I dont know what we are doing yet! We are going to see the venue on Sunday so may get some ideas then. Our first thought was to do a buffet, but have since been thinking about sausage or bacon butties/ chip cones. These seem to be in at the moment and look a lot cheaper! But still undecided so will bookmark this thread for ideas :)
CommentAuthorMel D
We served bacon/sausage/cheese sandwiches. The cake was suposed to get cut up and served also but the venue forgot about that. We catered for 60% of guests xx

We would've loved a hog roast but the venue dont do it and dont except outside catering, so i think we're gonna go down the burger and hot dog route. We also have cake and a sweetie table too xx
CommentAuthorNicsquared
We are having a hog roast, its a set price (based on the pig size), so if we have less people they just get more to eat :)

it's something i am not sure what to do about as ceremony is at 2. Should i do canapes with reception drinks then food (hog roast) later for everyone or have food earlier and not feed evening guests?
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Are you having the ceremony at the same place as reception venue? What time are your evening guests arriving?
If you wait until later for the evening guests to arrive, even with canapes your day guests will be starving. Generally evening guests will appreciate (some expect) some food.
Maybe if you can, do a meal for your day guests around 4:30pm ish, then put on something small and light in the evening xx

We have had to cater for all our guests from day and evening and are having bacon rolls and wedges - I'm doing the same as lofty though and am under the thoughts they won't know if a few extra than catered for turn up!

CommentAuthorJakesmummy
I'm doing the same as lofty and you KellyD81, theyve said we have to cater for 100% but there is no way everybody is going to eat especially after a 4 course meal, plus children never eat much, there too busy dancing, and some people may not turn up (although i hope they do lol) so we are catering for 75 - 80%, i'm sure they wont notice there not going to stand and count everyone are they x

Hails!!!!!! you posted that deliberately! tut and lol
and bacon rolls are becoming a more popular option. Cheaper than the average hot buffet, easy to make in bulk, hits the spot with almost any guest late at night when the booze takes effect. But for anyone considering this.... Just make sure you make accommodations for vegetarian and/or vegan guests lol.

Do you get a discount on a hog roast if you supply your own pig?

bacon or sausage sarnies or houmous and roast veg sarnies for the veggies but not sure how many to cater for. we have about 75 day guests 120 evening guests possibly. Having a 3 course meal during the day so maybe 75% the venue provide ciabatta and olives and root veg crisps too!

Our ceremony is at 1pm. Afternoon tea for the 100 day guests at 4pm. Then a seven piece cold & two piece hot buffet for the evening (about 8.30pm) for our 200+ guests.
The church has said that after the ceremony they're happy for us to have a bite to eat & drink in the church while we have church photographs if we want - anyone have any ideas what could be served? (we have about 1 hour and 15 for photographs & travel to reception venue ready for the welcome drink of bucks fizz).
The vicar said that people have had mulled wine at winter weddings after the ceremony, or tea's and coffee's & a little bite to eat etc etc
CommentAuthorAmyP7
We are having bacon butties and will be catering for all the evening guests. We are having a sit down 3 course meal for the day guests x x
CommentAuthorLiz3yy
In the evening we're having a cold buffet with cheese platters and salads plus the cake will be cut up and put out. I think that's enough as for the wedding breakfast we're serving a two course carvery with pud.
Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)
CommentAuthorLulu1388
We have a 3 course wedding breakfast in the afternoon and then the evening we have got a selection for buffet, then will have choco fountain, candy buffet etc. We will also do cake cutting in the evening as the evening guests then get to be part of the 'wedding' celebrations per say! Our venue actually only charge us for 80% of the overall number of guests for the evening, so if we have 100 we get charged for about 75, as they take into consideration that most will have had the breakfast, evening guests may have eaten before coming and probably not eat as much, and also kids etc. x
