Having people pay for their own drinks at the reception? Obviously everyone who will be at the ceremony and eating with us will have wine and soft drinks but we were thinking of having everyone pay their own drink afterwards. What is everyone doing? As a guest how would you take it?
CommentAuthorFaye
All weddings bar 1 ive been to you pay for your own, no-one ever goes thinking its a free bar! We saved a bit extra from other stuff so getting a drinks package x

We are paying for the drinks for the wedding breakfast but any other drinks after that the guest will be paying foe them selves - other wise it would end up costing a fortune :-) x

I have never been to a wedding with a free bar. No one will expect you to pay for their drinks. One on arrival, wine at the table and a toast is all we will be providing xx
CommentAuthorlala "mod" bunni
omg if we had a free bar then Mr lala`s family would run up a huge bill .................no way
I went to an indian wedding back in january time..They had a free bar...not that I was drinking anythinh other than lemonade lol....I remember thinking that firstly, there would be no way I could afford to do it, and secondly, with my family, it would get verrrrrry messy!! It was very cool though...the bar staff just wandered round with pints of beer, and each table had their own spirits on!
CommentAuthorjellytot
its fine, were just having a bar x
CommentAuthormrs pinkalice
if i was rich then i would buy every one drinks all night but unfortunately thats not the case! people will be buying their own. and thats how its been every wedding i've ever been too xx
CommentAuthorJessica
I think its perfectly reasonable to ask people to pay for their own drinks. The majority of people if they were not at my wedding on that night then they would be out drinking anyway and paying for their own drinks. We are doing a bucks fizz reception, a bottle of red and white on each table and a glass of wine for the taost. After that they can pay for their own as we will have payed for the meal aswell. I would never pick up the entire bill for my guests in a restaurant. x
CommentAuthorMrsB
We have got drink package for wedding breakfast but after that its a pay bar I wouldn't dream of having free bar =0 I can just imagine... x
CommentAuthorsbride
We wont be paying for peoples drink. I dont think people expect it these days. And also I sometimes feel when its a free bar it encourages people to just stand at the bar all night and take advantage.
I am now Mrs Stacey Stiles and loving it!
CommentAuthorNuttytart
I think now days most people expect to pay for there own drinks, were going to buy a few but its ridiculous you could spend thousands with in the hour!
CommentAuthorLeanne
We're paying for a welcome drink & a drink for the toast for everyone at ours that all, the bar will be open before/during the meal so people can get their own drinks. That package has cost us almost £10 per person we just can't afford anymore drinks for people.

CommentAuthorauntiewoo
People will be buying their own-but it's a rugby club so a bit cheaper than pub prices! x
CommentAuthorcharlotteverity

Thank you so much ladies :) Feeling much better about it. xx
CommentAuthorrainbow21
our guests will prob pay for their own as well, it just adds so much on to the price if we pay x
CommentAuthoreebeegeebee
The only people who EVER have a free bar are those whose enormously wealthy parents are paying for them, in my experience. I wouldn't worry about, I doubt anyone will expect it:) What we're going to do is see if there's any money left and if so infuse a little of it into the bar so the first drink or so is free for everyone after dinner but that's it. x
CommentAuthorroxyvella
i too was a little concerned about guests paying for thier own drinks, we having welcome drinks, some wine with the meal and toast but otherwise they will pay for thier own drinks. thanks ladies for ur posts you have made me feel much better about it! thanks for bringing it up Suz80 xx

Were not paying for ANY drinks, just food. Was going to buy a toast drink but all in all about 4 people drink bubbly, so they can all buy their own. That way when its time to toast they can drink something they like rather then sip something they dont like :-)

Everyone will be paying for their own drinks at our wedding...
I'm not a fan of paying thousands of pounds for all the guests to be fed and watered and entertained for the night it's OUR day people should be buying us a drink lol!! There getting fed and having a lovely favour bag to take home with them lol.
If I was a guest that's what I'd expect... I wouldn't be offended or put off by having to buy my own drink at all hun!! xx
CommentAuthoriluvcakes
We're just paying for a few bottles of fizz for the guests post ceremony. After that, everyone pays for their own drinks :0)

I would expect my meal and drinks that accompany it to be free..and perhaps a drink when you go to the reception. But, I would not expect free drinks...expexting anything is just bad manners IMO.
CommentAuthorvintage lass
Gosh....even if I was rich I still wouldnt pay for other folk to drink at my wedding xxx
CommentAuthorEmsy5000
I think free bar is an outdated idea why should you have to pay for other people to have alcohol you just know if its free someone will be silly.
although we are asking our friends to bring and share drinks so i guess we are sorta having free drinks in a way.

We are providing wine and champagne at wedding breakfast, or maybe drinks package, haven't decided yet, but after that the bar is open and you buy your own x
CommentAuthorJulie
We're paying for wine with the breakfast meal but thats it, the bar will be open before and after the ceremony and throughout the rest of the day/night. We just couldnt afford to put on a free bar and like all the girls have said before I dont think anyone expects it anyway x

CommentAuthorLynz_9
I've only ever been to weddings where you have to pay for drinks at the evening reception. We'll put on drinks for arrival, meal and toast. I think that's all most folk expect x
CommentAuthorPuddleduck87
If the guests want a drink paid by me they can have pop! COUNCIL POP! lmao. They are having 2 bottles of wine per table to toast and that is their lot! lmao
CommentAuthorCeCe
We ARE having a 'small window' of free bar-age at our wedding - we decided that we wanted to make our guests who would have travelled from Bristol/Liverpool area to the Highlands of Scotland and paid to stay for the weekend alittle spoilt. There are only 30 guests so we will survive!
CommentAuthorMelly
We're all camping so no bar for us. We'll be taking drinks with us, but i would have thought everyone will be bringing a contribution. xx
CommentAuthorKimi
Well we have 2 drinks during the meal which is either wine or lemonade if they want anything else they can get their own :P
