I don't believe in any, and aren't adhering to any of them either.

We will probably spend the night apart though but just so the day is more exciting :)

I don't really believe any of the superstitions. Am having the something old etc as its traditional and its (hopefully) going to be my only wedding. Am staying away from h2b the night before so he doesn't see me getting ready and keeping my dress a suprise.

Oooh yes, H2B defo cannot see our dresses before we walk down the aisle in it! In fact the only people seeing the dress are my mum, sister and best friend then of course my dad on the morning of the wedding, and the photographer. That's it.

Everyone else will have to wait until I make my grand entrance lol xx

I would say that I believe in most of them, i'm not sure why. Just wouldn't want to chance them if they actually were true. So me and H2B will be spending the night before apart and he won't see me till I walk down the ailse. He hasn't seen my wedding dress and I will be doing the 'something old, something new...' I will even be wearing the silver sixpence in my shoe! xx

We're not really following any, h2b is even dress shopping with me. As a few ladies have said, we are staying apart the night before the wedding, but only because he wants to have the boys stay over with him and enjoy a boys night and a fry up on the morning of the breakfast (it's was his friend did, so he has it in his head that he has to do it too). I even asked him to walk down the aisle with me, but he doesn't think his legs will carry him.

I love superstitions and do go by most of them, even non wedding related! lol! No idea why, I think it's the way I've been brought up, my mum is very into it all, she believes in it all and guardian angels, speaking to the universe etc, so I've been born into it!!

Hi, good thread! I'm not naturally superstitious but I will be gong along with quite a few of the wedding 'traditions' just because I think it'll be fun and make things more weddingy, lol. On;y thing we probably won't be doing is the chimney sweep thing but I hink H2B has a chimney sweep friend although don't think he's being invited, xx.

What's the chimney sweep thing? Don't think I've heard that...? I won't be seeing Neil on the day of the wedding until I walk up the aisle, and I'll be at my parents' the night before too whereas he'll be in a hotel. Probably do the something old etc too but not sure about the silver sixpence. X

would it not be uncomfortable having a sixpence in your shoe? I will have something old, new, borrowed, blue and will not see H2B for a dat before the wedding (maybe even 2 so I can have lots of beauty treatments and surprise him with my beauty on the day). what other ones are out there?

I wanted peonies but they are a symbol of shame so i am no longer having those! I read it was thought unlucky for a woman to marry a man whose surname began with the same letter as hers, and mine and my fiances surname begin with the same letter! I've just looked up wedding superstitions & traditions on the good ol' net and found LOADS I never knew!
    For example:
    - When the bride is ready to leave the house for the wedding ceremony a last look in the mirror will bring her good luck. However returning to the mirror once she has began her journey will result in bad luck.
    - Seeing a chimney sweep on the way to a wedding is though to bring good luck. Other good luck omens when seen on the way to the ceremony include lambs, toads, spiders, black cats and rainbows.
    - Seeing an open grave, a pig, a lizard, or hearing a cockerel crow after dawn are all thought to be omens of bad luck. Monks and nuns are also a bad omen. This may be because the are associated with poverty and chastity. They are also though to signal a dependence on charity by the newlyweds.
    - It is said that the first partner who buys a new item after the wedding will be the dominant one in the relationship!!!
AND I never knew the ryme "something old" actually goes like this:
    Something old, something new
    Something borrowed, something blue
And a silver sixpence in your shoe

I may have a problem with the cockeral crowing as I have 11 chickens inc. a cockeral and he crows from around 4am and throughtout the day! uh oh!! hahaha!

Well as they say - You learn something new everyday eh?? LMAO!!!

I watched a history programme once and from memory, seeing a chimney sweep on the morning of your wedding became good luck because some nobility or royalty were on the way to the wedding and the horses pulling the carriage bolted but were stopped by a passing chimney sweep. I think you can even hire them to be there on the morning, although I might have made that up - I'm not sure lol, xx.

Yeah apparently you can hire them for your wedding (thats what is aw on internet anyhow!) I think that may be taking it a little too far and anyway it's not really "luck" if you've hired them is it??!!!!

I'm not a superstitious person in general but will be adhering to the "something old" tradition and the "can't see the bride before the wedding" one too not really sure why other than I like the whole "traditional" wedding idea so think it should just be followed (by me anyway) but as with anything else with weddings its each to their own xxx

oh and tikobear I'v actually heard the sixpence in the shoe thing before but I'm wearing Christian Louboutins so shall not be doing that xxx

We are not supersitious at all, but I did the something old, something new but not the sixpence. We stayed in different places the night before and didn't see each other until the ceremony, but more because Dan wanted to as he thought it was a nice tradition.

Some of those are hilarious Tikobear! I'm not superstitious at all though H2b is quite a bit. I'd love him to come dress shopping with me so I know he'll like it on the day but he flatly refuses! We will be spending the night before the wedding apart but it's mostly because he wants to have a night with the lads and I want to spend it with my parents - as an only child we three have always been really close so I think it'll be nice :) Must look in to hiring that chimney sweep though...
