We were planning on just booking a 'large party dining' thing at the hotel as h2bs birthday for our wedding reception.
It is his birthday that day. He says that they may just turn us away though when we all turn up in our wedding gear leaving us with nowhere to eat. They do do weddings and have a special menu for it however it is 6 quid a head more expensive and the food doesn't sound as nice.
I said they wouldn't turn us away as that would mean giving us our money back. Roughly 400 quid.
What do you guys think?

I have to say I agree with your h2b! If they dont turn you away they will probably demand the extra per head before they give you the food anyway. No one likes being tricked, and that is what you are doing to them. Sorry hun xxx

Not really It's just that our wedding happens to fall on his birthday. If they made us pay the extra I would expect the more expensive food (even if his family will struggle to know what they are eating with all the posh words)

I think it is perfectly reasonable to say it is for h2b's birthday. At the end of the day you are paying for the food that you want irrespective of the occasion. I don't know why restaurants think they can charge more if they mention the word 'wedding'. x
is it worth booking it for a celebration and then mention your husbands birthday, if they are happy to accept your group booking, do they give private room hire as this may also be included in the extra fees for the wedding menu?
It might be worth being honest and saying you want the cheaper menu anyway and they should be able to do it for the same price as at the end of the day its business for them!!
