what do you think about having a dog at the wedding?

Trudy is a black lab and very behaved, bit of energy but our princess. We really want her at our wedding and the reception venue is dog friendly as a big hotel so she can stay in our room or just run around with the kids there.... but i dont know if its werid or not? A few people we have mentioned it too have turned their noses up at us and said its not really for a dog. Im just concerned we will be out all day and night and she will be left alone too.

What do you all think? anyone having their dog at the wedding.

She's your dog and you love her so why shouldn't she be at your wedding. I've been to a wedding where the dog was best man, the speech was a bit of a let down but he was so cute with his little bow tie on. I would love to have my nephew dog at my wedding but he's too naughty and likes to jump up to show he's taller than me so I would probably end up getting annoyed with my dress etc.

I say go ahead and do your day your way. x

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013

we want our young man at our wedding, he's pretty chilled when he's on his own but when we have his mother with him he gets giddy we are wanting to take him to the church but not sure if they will allow it but we will ask closer to the time, we're gunna get him a waistcoat and cravat as well so he fits with the theme. I'm all up for dogs as weddings

I'm attending a wedding with a couple of dogs this summer, it doesn't bother me being a guest, but I've point blank refused my FIL2B's dog to attend at our wedding, she is far too boisterous, and as much as I love playing with her and am the first to run about like a loony with her normally, I know she won't understand the importance of keeping my dress clean!

I agree with that if u want your dog there have her there, its ur wedding not anyone else's, I haven't ot any pets either but if I did have a dog I wouldn't see it as a problem with the dog Being there, plus my sil2b has a dog and she'll hve to bring him along as there's no one to look after him and like u said the dog can't at home all day on its own its not very fair xx

I am glad you all agree, makes me feel better.

I wont be telling anyone else they can bring their dogs.... Trudy is very shy so don't want her to be intimidated and worry about her all day so be the only dog there. She is going to be our Bridedog and get her a red bow to wear.

The church have agreed she can come in too as long as well behaved. xx

I'm not a massive fan of it, and I love dogs!! There's a lot of people there and dogs can get over excited, even the best behaved dogs. Also my partner is highly allergic, as are a couple of our guests, so the thought of them sneezing through the ceremony and having watery eyes on the pictures doesn't really appeal.

I absolutely love dogs, and my MIL has 3, and my Dad has 2. I am definitely NOT having any of them at the wedding! It's the yapping...and all you need is the lift of a leg on the hem of the dress and you're done for!
If you trust your doggies to behave, and you can't imagine having them there then go for it but it's not for me!

    I'm of two minds...
    1) Ditto MrsClarke2Be & Our Wedding Blog - allergies, fancy expensive clothing (not just you but your guests!) & dogs don't really mix in my head.
    But
    2) If you really want her there & don't want to leave her alone then it is your day!
I wouldn't but your day your way.

Only thing - will there be other people at your hotel?
The hotel may have said yes atm, but if other guests complain then they may make you take her elsewhere.
Alternatively if they say yes to all guests dogs then there may be some less well behaved dogs who may upset yours or make her less well behaved! Xx

I have 3 dogs and if they werent as boistrous i would take them, how about if yours is the ring bearer or something so it had a role in the big day, also you will need someone to look after it, like if it decides it want to go to the toilet, cant see you bending down in your dress to pick it up and your hubby might be busy with guests, also taking him to your room and checking on him, just as thought. But i think its a great idea x

I wouldn't be worried about being weird - I see it like EcoFreak and can see both point of views.

And from the dogs point of view - it might be very overwhelming for him and frightening if he's not used to big social gatherings, many people wanting to pet him, loud music etc etc. It may be kindest for the dog if you organise a dog sitter for the day.

I was worried abut it being overwhelming for her too so can put her in our room if gets too much for her i guess as be quieter too. xx

We have considered having my mums dog there (we think of her as our dog too), still not sure though. She wouldn't like being alone all day or going into kennels, but she may get too excited at the wedding and chase squirrels since its an outside ceremony, may be a little impractical. xx

She will just be made to behave a lot better than she normally does because for a guide dog she is quite naughty. I would have loved for jack to be ring bearer but nope :(

We are having our wee dog at our wedding. She's my baby, got her before I met h2b, she's a tri colour cavalier king charles spaniel and totally adorable. She is very well behaved and knows everyone who will be at the wedding. I wouldn't leave her at home on her own that's not fair on her, plus I would be worrying about her too. All the venues we have contacted are dog friendly. Kira will end up sleeping in a corner knowing her!

We not long ago got an American bulldog puppy, he's 14 weeks this Sunday so will be just about 7 months by the wedding....we're putting him in kennels for the night so we don't have to worry bout him too much. My mum us doing the same with her GSD....apart from it will be one of those home kennels as she a bit of a scary cat and doesn't like proper kennels.

But I say if ur dog is well behaved and the venue don't kind then YES!!! Who cares what the guests think, it's ur day after all.

Why not, its your day and if thats what you want. I actually saw something on the wedding channel not that long ago about dogs, and apparantley its the new trend to have your dog at your wedding. All I would say is have a dedicated person to check on him, take him for a little walk every now and again etc, just so that you do not have the worry as well as trying to worry about everything else. But yeah, go for it x

My personal opinion would be not to have dogs at my wedding unless one of my guests had a guide dog which are professionally trained dogs to do there job. I think dogs can be unpredictable at times and I just have visions of people all dressed up go nines with muddy dog prints on there dress and the wedding dress!!

But then I am not a massive dog lover anyway but if you want them there and youre venue allow it why not!!

i think if you're a dog person then go for it, allot of people see a dog as part of the family, so wouldn't want to have their day without them.

Personally I can't think of anything worse!!! I hate dogs, can't stand them. So there would be no chance of a smelly dog messing up my big day, with lots of people around them that they don't know anything could happen. I would kill the owner of a dog that got muddy foot prints on my dress. lol

But if your dog is a massive part of your life then go for it.
