    After my previous post about using my wedding cake as a dessert option instead of paying out and seeing it as a possible option without looking cheap-It got me wondering what are you/arent you providing for your guests?

    The more I can get away with not paying out for the better my chances of bringing our wedding forward and setting a realistic budget that we can stick to.

    Drinks? Transport? Food?

    Planning to perfection <3

    We're providing a 3 course meal and an evening buffet for our guests, but we're not giving choices for the meal and as of now, we are not providing any drinks. If we somehow get more money, we will add some drinks on.
    We're not providing any transport but our church and reception venue are in the same town and most guests live nearby so it's just not neccesary.
    I hope i don't look tight lol but we really can't afford any more xx

    Not providing drinks, except a welcome drink!
    Not providing transport, most can drive, lol x
    Only doing food for the day guests, sit down knife and fork buffet for lunch and sandwiches with cream teas for late afternoon, the evening guests are having nibbles, cheaper to feed 60 people twice than 60 for lunch then 120 for a finger buffet!

    Am making chocolate butterfly lollies for favours and they are doubling as place names!
    And wedding cake for a pud!

    There are loads of things to do to keep costs down. We are more interested in getting married then all the finer details and the fuss. I want a stress free relaxed wedding and the guests to feel that way too.

    I am not having transport to the church... luckily mums house is in the same village so walking down to the church then got 1 big vintage bus for everyone together from the church to reception so only paying out once.
    Food - We are having our sit down meal at 6pm so no point in a evening buffet as would have eaten late anyway.
    Flowers - asked the church florist to do the flowers, they don't do it for profit only a donation to the church.
    Shoes - borrowing my mums wedding shoes, no one sees them under my dress anyway.

    we thinkng of providing one drink for the toast for people and a package for the kids maybe (£5 for kids as opposed to £10 for adults for 3) 3 course meal and an evening buffet. transport is for me and dad maybe bms depending on cost but no one else! they can all make own way there in our area anyway! plus most of my family are coming from west yorks so it not fair to provide transport for just rys lot! getting cheap flowers and having them maybe as centerpieces too. Favours are hopefully gonna cost maybe 50p pp!! hopefully otherwise they can lump it!! would rather have something else!

    We're providing a welcome cocktail, 3 course wedding breakfast, 2 glasses of wine for the meal plus sparkling white for the toast, an evening fork buffet and transport between our venue and any hotels our out of town visitors are using.

    I went to a wedding a few months ago that only provided afternoon tea. As lovely as it was, we'd travelled a 400 mile journey to get there and paid for a hotel for two nights and then when the wedding finished at 6pm we had to go and get something to eat for our dinner as we were starving.

    We arent providing transport as the ceremony and reception are in the same place, its a set 3 course meal with drinks and an evening buffet but they have to pay for their own drinks in the evening.

    We are providng a 4 Course Wedding breakfast for the day guests, with a glass of mulled wine on arrival and 2 bottles of wine per table. The evening & day guests get a Hot Roast Pork Sandwhich with vegetables served buffet style for the evening.

    we can't afford anything else, but it'll still be great. i don't actually give a hoot if the guests think it's cheap...THEY'RE NOT PAYING FOR IT!!!

    it's not our dream wedding, but it's going to be a wonderful day in cyprus and a great party back home :)

    We're saving on an evening buffet by having canapes from 4.30-6pm for our day guests, then the speeches, and mini-mains coming out on trays between 7-8.30pm - with mini-desserts being served on cake stands with the wedding cake from 8.30pm - our evening guests are arriving from 7.30pm and as there are only 40 compared to our 160 day guests, we're not ordering a separate evening buffet as they can join in with the mini mains and desserts etc.

    Each table is getting 1 bottle of rose with another half bottle as back up, and a jug of iced water - on entry they're getting welcome drinks of bellinis, fruit cocktail and sparkling wine - and for toasts they get one prosecco each. Other than that there's a pay bar.

    We're also providing a bus from church to reception but this was because a lot of my family are from overseas so won't have transport. As we have a lot of guests we're also hosting a meal the night before in a Chinese restaurant too but if people want to contribute to the bill they're welcome! :-)

    We're providing:

    2 welcome drinks pp, and canapes
    3 course meal with starter and dessert served to the table, and a buffet main with choice of salmon, rib-eye steak, chicken, and vegetarian dishes, 1/2 bottle wine and a glass of champagne for the toast (or soft-drink alternatives for non-drinkers), and water
    Evening buffet (catering for 75%) and wedding cake (cutting it and serving it in the evening)
    £2k behind the bar for the evening reception (for house wine by the glass, beer, and single spirits and mixers)
    A website with detailed info about accommodation, access, parking, etc.

    We're not providing:

    Transport
    Accommodation
    Additional drinks: if day guests would prefer beer or a cocktail with their meal, they will need to pay for it; we're also not including cocktails, double spirits, wine by the bottle, or champagne, on our bar tab; guests will have to pay if they want those drinks as they're expensive and the tab would run out very quickly if we included them

    IMPO food and some drink is essential; if I couldn't provide those things, we'd simply cut down on numbers or elope. But I don't think it's necessary to pay for transport or accommodation, though I do think you should ensure that the venue is accessible, with parking available close by, and that there is accommodation to suit all budgets (eg most of our guests will stay at our venue which is expensive, but some won't be able to afford it, so we'll give details of other available accommodation inc the local Travel Lodge which has cheap deals)

    You've got to remember the bigger picture here, they've come to witness and share in your big day, not to see how much food they can get their hands on and whether they had enough to drink without spending a penny!

    People just assume too much, mine will be fed, the welcome drink will probably now be for the toasts, or we will have the toasts when we come in, instead of waiting till after the meal ( my friends did this, mainly because the groom was so nervous he'd have been drunk b4 his otherwise, lol)

    barbie86, that is pretty much what i am providing as well, although in addition we have 11 bedrooms for the night of the wedding. One for us and 5 for my family and 5 for h2b's family. With the invitations ill put in details of nearby accommodation to suit all budgets. x

    each guest gets a 3 course meal arrival drink, half a bottle of wine with their meal and sparkling wine for the toast evening buffet

    i'm doing a sweet buffet, wedding cake and favours but they are only a miniature dairy milk and then the little items i've got them but i didn't have to provide them if i did it again i would just do the sweet buffet.
    also cut out the arrival drinks and stuff just feed them, they know where the bar is
    and transport they can sort between themselves, my dad's side of the family don't really drive so they are all sorting it out between themselves and getting a mini bus i think, let them deal with it

    bridetobe2013: I think ours is probably going to come in at around £16k excluding the rings (which are looking at costing about £1.5-2k) and the honeymoon (which we're not counting because we go on a big holiday each year anyway so it's not really an additional expense if that makes sense). Our catering costs are about £7k; that's for 50 day guests and 100 evening guests (and includes the money we're putting behind the bar).

    I was going to add drinks on arrival but that'd put nearly £400 on to the bill so im not doing it!
    we are having ceremony and reception at the venue so no need to worry about transport :-)

    Our package provides us with the breakfast and buffet, and welcome and toasting drinks. Also a DJ, although h2b would far prefer us to just have a preformed playlist on an ipod! We'll be providing the cake, and possibly a chocolate fountain if I get my way! I'm fairly loathe to extend to anything else than that, neither of us see the point in favours, we're getting ready, getting married, having the reception and staying overnight at the same hotel, so no transport needed, we can't afford to pay for people's rooms, but they get a discounted rate anyway at our hotel, and there are cheaper options close by. We are paying for his mum and her best friend's flights from Spain. H2b wants to put some money behind the bar, but there's no way I'm letting that happen, aside from anything, there's no room in the budget! But also I don't drink much, I have friends that don't drink much, and I refuse to fund the drinking habits of the few people that potentially could get very drunk and make bottoms of themselves. And a lot of my friends (who do not have a lot of money) would only have one free drink and then be too polite to have more, and then some people who are a lot more affluent would just take the pee.

    I don't give two hoots if anyone thinks we're cheap, they should be honoured to be invited at all!

    I'm told by my mil to be (lol) that we're providing:
    drinks after service (pimms or sparkling wine)
    three course meal for guests (i've decided this... little people will be there and it's totally unfair for them to wait until 7pm til the buffet)
    of course the evening buffet and apparently some wine on the tables other than that it's a bar that people can pay for their drinks. We're very lucky in that where we get married is going to be going up from a 4star so if we get in before april room costs and the overall price will be reflected as they are now, not increasing.
    Our reception will be held in same place as our ceremony as the cost is to hire it out for the day is about 1,000 anyway and with all of the above it comes to around 3,000 (all based on around 100 people being there) :D can't wait to get married!

    LOVE the caricaturist idea karategal, may have to ask about and see if anyone in Norwich knows anyone for our day :)

Candy Bar for the evening and not worrying about transport as im staying at the venue the night before and h2b getting a lift off his brothers, guests are either driving or getting taxis. x

    well we asked our guests if they wanted to come to our wedding, but they had to pay for their holiday!!!!!!! but hey ho!!

    the wedding day guest will be excourted to the registry office by hotel staff, guests will recive a toasting drink after the ceromony, a 4 course set meal (we hav put aside some wine but if they want anythign else they will have to pay) favors of love hearts and cake. no official entertainment lots of drinking and chilling!!!

    our party back at home guests will recive a hog roast and chips, wedding cake and a sweet buffet. if people wish to stay they get rooms at discounted rate. obviously there will be a dj to get the party going

    personally, i don't go to a party/wedding and expect anything. i am very aware that everyone has different budgets and whatever they provide, we should be thankful we have been chosen to be a part of their special day.

    one of my bm kinda hinted that 'her mother' (i think it was my bm, NOT her mother) thought i should pay for her flight over to cyprus!! ehhhhh noooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! i asked if she wanted to come, but if she couldn't afford it, i'm wasn't paying!! we've got 5 people to pay for, not including all the wedding costs

    forgot to add, for cyprus, we have hired a villa and my MOH, her partner, my bm and her son are all staying with us for a week and h2b and i are paying for the villa. so i should include that lol

    Vineyard owner says guests can eat as many grapes from the vines as they wish! lol

    Evening drinks after meal - cash bar - I imagine they will all be well lubricated by this time anyway.

    We are only having a small wedding and we got a great deal with a company providing the yacht, bus and convertible, and also a great deal with the vineyard/restaurant owners.

    We are providing arrival drinks of bucks fizz and pimms,
    a 4 course meal with wine on the tables,
    tea/coffee and wedding cake,
    a champagne toast,
    for favours i am making miniature wedding and little birdcage favour boxes filled with chocolate eggs, and also a £1 lottery ticket! LOL

    Not providing drinks after the meal, there will be a cash bar.
    Ours will be an afternoon wedding, beginning at 2pm and ending by 7-8pm, so there wont be an evening disco or buffet.
    (with the best will in the world you cant get much of a party started with 24 people)
    I have also bought 20 boxes of confetti because the venue prefers the bio-degradable stuff and i didnt want to risk my guests bringing the normal stuff.

    I don't think anyone should be paying fuel or flights for anyone, they are invited to the wedding, they have the option to decline if they can't afford to get there. I'm booking all 9 rooms in the hotel where the reception is but that is for my family and I'm only paying for my parents and mil. My mum did suggest booking out the top floor of the premier inn like she did for my sister's wedding but I've said no way are we paying. We can do it to get a group discount but I've never had anyone pay my accomodation at a wedding.

    I think you've got to provide what your budget allows, my budget is £15k and I'm hoping to come way under that so that we can include the honeymoon. At the end of the day, the whole point is the "I do" bit, anything else is just an added extra.

    shirleygirly you are spot on! whenever i got invited to a wedding, they dont care HOW i get there, they certainly dont help me organise and pay for it, they have enough to do without that. and like you say, if you cant afford to go....you dont go.

    we r providing transport to the church as no parking near n some are old... welcome drink 3bottles on the table of wine... 3 course meal which they had a choice of two things or vegatrian (in my photos).... coffe n tea... sweetie buffet, chocolate fountain hopefully.... evening buffet.... toast drinks.. and not providing accommendation cnt afford but if they was smart they cud use sun vouchers :) xxx i d think thats gd for a 5k budget :) dj included set up included chair covers, dresses suits mine n h2b cars real flowers photographer videographer favours bridal thanks u centerpieces n little nicknats quite impressed hehe xx

    Our guests will get:

    a welcome drink

    3 course meal (choice of 2 or vegetarian)

    2 glasses of wine & 1 glass of sparkling wine with meal & to toast

    bacon butties, wedding cake, candyfloss & popcorn in the evening.

    We havent put on any extra transport for guests but i have tried to get people without transport lifts with other people.

    We're providing food and putting enough money behind the bar for everyone to get one drink. My budget won't stretch to any more, and to be fair nearly all of my guests dont drink anything alcoholic, even h2b and myself probably won't be drinking. We're not providing arrival drinks. We are not providing transport, as our reception venue is literally 1 minutes walk from the registry office I don't think there is much point, though if it were much further away I would have arranged something.
    We're having a buffet at our reception, and using the wedding cake for desserts. I don't think I'm being cheap, I'm being reasonable and considering what I can afford. I don't want to spend money I don't have on things I don't need or things that none of my guests would appreciate anyway.

    Our guests are getting Drink on arrival - sparkling wine / fresh orange
    3 course meal, no canape's and haven't decided on tea or coffee as £2.50 pp
    I have made wine charms with names on to double up as place names, and favours for the adults
    and for the girls a bracelet with name on and beads, not made the boys yet need ideas as I don't think
    they'd like a bracelet.
    Transport only for evening quests but they have to pay £8 pp instead of £25+ taxi

    we have booked all 18 rooms so that we have the Hotel exclusive to us all wknd but
    charging guests a small fee towards there rooms
    we are paying for mob,mil,fil, bm, moh, bm rooms as a thank you

    A buffet at the celebration party
    Night at local travelodge and taxi to and from party venue for my grandparents.

    If the budget allows (parents donate some money/ I eventually win on a scratchcard more than £2):

    I've just been working this out for my big day, and think i can safely say it wont change much from this:

    Bucks fizz on arrival

    Afternoon cream tea with tea and coffee (92 in the day)

    Champagne for the toasts

    7 piece cold buffet for evening (up to now guest list is at 189)

    All comes in at £5,187.50

    However, mother in law wants a hot buffet option for guests who are traveling a long distance (200 miles) which will increase the cost by:

    £2,662.50 - for two hot meals for 189 people!!!!! 2.5K FOR AN EFFING CURRY AND PASTA DISH!!!!

    Our guests will also be provided with;

    Reduced priced rooms at the wedding reception venue (forms part of the wedding package).

    Return transport from the wedding reception venue to church.

    wedding favours for day guests of a lucky dip lotto ticket for adults will only come to £78 and chocolate lollipop for children

    We provided welcome drinks (champagne) 3 course meal, wedding cake was part of buffet, buffet for everyone. wine on all the tables (prob put too much on each table to be honest) and champagne for the toasts.

    Think that was it but more than enough seeing as the alcohol cost £600 alone! x

    We're having welcome drink, 3 course meal, wedding cake, two glasses of wine with meal, champagne for toasts.

    Buffet in evening with rest of the cake (making a lot of cake!). Sweet buffet in evening too.

    No open bar. Putting up bm, mil&fil, mob&fob, bil&sil, my brother&girlfriend and my nan and gran as we get the 8 hotel rooms included in the venue hire. I'm not however paying for their breakfast the next day. x

    We got married in Gretna and had a small wedding (19 of us altogether). We paid the hotel deposit for the best man and bridesmaid, but didn't pay for accommodation.

    We provided a taxi from the hotel to the wedding venue for my mum and two guests, and return minibus (from the taxi company) for some of the guests (some had their own transport). We then paid for a three course meal back in the hotel for everyone for our reception, and gave guests a choice of 5 options for each course. We ordered and paid for wine for the tables as well. We didn't have favours - but guests asked if they could take the place card holders home with them as a keepsake, as they were quite unusual (silver mini cutlery crossed over to hold the place card).

    After our honeymoon, when we got back home, we had an evening reception - and my in laws supplied the buffet for everyone as a wedding present to us. We provided a second wedding cake for everyone but not drinks or transport this time.

    Our guest will have a welcome drink, drink for toast and 2 glasses with the wedding breakfast. Children will have unlimited squash from arrival till 7pm.

    There is a 3 course Wedding Breakfast and we have made up Ferrero Roche trees to come out with the Teas & Coffees. Also evening buffet of Hot Rolls with Bacon or Sausage and Wedding Cake.

    After the ceremony during photo/mingle time we have planned an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids and whoever wants to join in, so lots of goodies for everyone.

    We have gone over our budget with favours as everyone is traveling to be with us so we spent a bit more than intended - Egg-shaped Bathbomb and a Duck Soap for ladies and Hipflask Keyring with shot of whiskey for men. Kids have huge goodie bags with heaps of toy/crafty bits Ive picked up at bargain prices. The name tags are an individually personalised wooden egg shaped and Im hoping people take these as a keepsake.

    It is all in one venue so no need for transport on the day. Also there will be a bagpiper, a 5pc band and then a DJ. Our photographer is also coming back to do a Photobooth in the evening and if guests want a bigger pic they will have to buy that themselves.

    We negotiated a great rate for the guests to stay at the hotel but they are all paying it. We did pay for half the rooms for my mum & dad and then my bro and his family as part of their Xmas.

    Working on a 3 dream plan for the next 5 years!
