Hi Ana, I am trying to save money, mainly because I can't justify spending a fortune on things that are only expensive because people charge more for weddings. I am doing my own invites as are a lot of the girls on here, I paid around £18 for all the card, and material that fits my theme. I got place cards from bay of e, and am doing my own reception flowers by buying florist foam, ribbon and will buy the flowers the day before and whack them in, lol. But lots of the girls have companies they could recommend that are really good value, Hails helped me a lot! Am also getting my flower girl/bridesmaid dress made which will save me over £100, too expensive to just buy them and have them sent to me. Hope you enjoy the site and get lots of helpful hints. Good luck! :) x

its not on the wedding but we buy thoose tins like a big bean tin you can put your change in i have an extra large 1 for £1 coins and £2 coins and a normal size one for any other change but not coppers i also try to put at least £50 in notes in there as that covers my car insurance which i pay monthly but sometimes we strech to £100 a week but beilve it or not that change no matter how small soon builds up

I had one of those, but I sadly got hold of a tin opener, lol. Then I had one that you had to smash open, and oooh what is that over there....a hammer you say? lol. I am personally rubbish with those things, so I just buy stuff as soon as we have money and then it is done! :)

Ive wrote out our "Family Spending Cuts" today. I was fumng the other day that he can spend money left right and centre on games but if I buy anything for the wedding he sees it as me spending money on me!!!
Basically wrote out some rules on our notice board which include things like - no more takeaways - no more crisps/chocolate/cake/biscuits - no more internet spending - no more non essential bills (ie his tesco dvd/games hire and steam train magazine subscriptions - dont ask) - etc.... then wrote a list of things which can be bought but need to be jointly agreed upon. ie essential clothing, wedding related items, birthday cards/presents for family etc... Sounds harsh but the funny thing is Ive already given up so much to save for the wedding that this will hardly effect me or the kids, but Steves going to miss his luxuries. I have no doubt he will rant and then sulk but even he knows it needs to be done and should help lessen the amount of cr ap that comes home. xxx

I have started walking to work (45 mins each way and we live in hilly Devon!) which is hopefully going to save on petrol (which is increasing all the time) and also a good way to keep fit! x
I save coins too: pot for pounds, one 4 silver and one of those massive coke bottles for coppers its surprising how quickly they mount up. Just banked my pounds which I started last summer-£90 towards the wedding :D
Also ask yourself: 'do I really need this when going to buy something' and be harsh on yourself! Every penny counts as they say.
    Hope this helps :)

We have a jar for loose change (anything under £1) which, when full, we take to my Dads. He changes the change lol into £2 coins which then go into Wedding Fund money pots on the mantlepiece. We have filled one and the other is about an eighth full at the minute. H2B reckons we've got bout £250-£300 in the full one :-) xx

(He's in a bad mood just now so I'm not going to make him worse by telling him tonight)

I'm sort of the person who if I have money I want to spend it on everyone else and treat them instead of me. but now it comes to our wedding I think that might have to change!!! "might", I mean it will have to change :) yeah I have a skint can and it looked like baked beans but because we ran out of petrol, out came the tin opener!!! darn the prices are getting absolutely ridiculous! I shall try very hard with all your helpful tips! hopefully will get us further! carry on with suggestions and comments though. all are welcome :) hope you'r all having a good day/evening! xxxx

Lol GregorysGirl, we have a wedding fund pot that you have to break to get the money out - we try to put money in when we have a few £1 and £2 spare, or the occasional note. That's all well and good but my h2b has discovered how to get the coins out when we are short of cash, by using a knife lol ;-)

I've opened a new joint savings account, got the highest interest rate I could find as we have over a year till the wedding.
Similar to stevie_dee we have agreed on things we will cut back on, we used to rend dvds and alway forgot to take them back on time which cost loadsn fees, so no more dvds. We would go out to dinner almost every week, not anymore. We have cut back on everything possible and if you go on money saving websites they have loads of vouchers for things which only saves a few pounds here and there but as they say every little helps.

My little top tip, aint that interesting, but for those of you who like to look for things on bay of e, do some investigating....

I saw a decorated post box on there for £25, so I went onto the sellers feedback and found where she had bought the materials for making it, buying them myself cost me 11.50 inc p&p, not only did I save money, I also got just a tiny sense of achievement! x

Great posts here - thanks for such brilliant ideas - one other thing that isn't exactly saving money but my friend that got married last year recommended - pay things as soon as possible so that there are more things paid off earlier - and it's easier to stick to your budget then too rather than letting things that you haven't paid for build up - hope that makes sense! :-)

Ive opened up a savings account but so far there isnt anything in it and my mum gave us a money pot thing that you break to get the money out ut she gave us that in the summer time and so far there is £3 in it. We had a baby one for my daughter and we broke the bottom when she was born and we had nearly £200 in it which we was suprised about but we've cut down on lot of spending but my problem is im on maternity leave just now and so have time kind of to look on the internet for bargains for our wedding so i end up wanting them but i really should leave well alone till we have the pennies

I have got to. He hates saving for ANYTHING. We saved for a flat then he decided to go away on holiday booked it and paid for it but forgot we would need spending money. I have had to stop him doing that once this year already. The man does my head in. He want s to learn to drive this month with a one week course thing and that is £500. Man is having a laugh. I am the only one working to so it is not great and my wages are crap and with rent and bills and everything else only money left WILL be going on the wedding.

It's nice to read so much feed back or in general just opinions :) even though my wedding is so far away it seems at the moment I'm very excited. and today I found my PERFECT reception venue and as luck happens its just around the corner from where my church is so that's double fantastic for me to. also hoping it lowers the transport cost and in fact I've halved my venue price from where I thought I originally wanted it. yay!!! :) Looks like saving should come together nicely soon :) xxx

I have also had luck on a reception today..in the way of provisionally booking it over the phone for the date we have the church :) we have a couple more to look at but really like this one and its not too far from the church and right by the sea..a sea view is something we really wanted for our reception, so yay! Was starting to get panicky that it would get booked up so I'm calm again now hehe x

best way to save money is to cut the guest list!!! why invite loads of cousins etc that you have not seen in years? well DONT! we have cut ours from 80 to 50 doing that, and it allowed us to bring our wedding forward a year. They are all still invited at night time, but at £90 a head we just couldnt afford to have them all during the day. And its not bothered us one little bit.
