Now I'm not going to mention names or anything like that but this is making my blood boil. I'm currently sourcing suppliers to do various wedding affiliated things. I have seen the trade prices and how much people buy the stuff in for. What has just made me so mad is that I have seen items that are brought in for 20p and being sold for £7.50! Now I know we all need to make a profit but that to me is beyond a joke! How dare they mark everything up so high just because we are getting married. Its crazy. I am so pleased that when I am up and running it is going to be a business of morals and ethics with enough to make a living rather than just fleecing people. I knew that they made a profit from everything but didn't think it was that much! Its outrageous!

Jo.. its the same with anything...
Hairdressers etc.... go in... to make an appointment..

"How much to pin my hair up please?"

    "Oh that'll be £35"

Next day to you go in and say

"Im getting married how much to pin my hair up?"

    "that'll be £85"

mention the word Wedding and we all over charged!!

I can understand that suppliers have to cover their overheads, time, staff etc I really can as I've had to cost that in with my items but there is no need for that kind of mark up on items that involve little work at all other than ship in ship out.

oh this is my major bug bare..... like with my cake nearly £1000 me making it £150 say its any thing to do with a wedding and they double it or tripple it.... fair enough make a profit but why should wedding suppliers make more profit for effectilvly the same service as a bday or christening etc... or they charge thousands of pounds for the luxary of bespoke... this is why am gonna set a side line up after my wedding ... and not rip brides off... and let them have what they want at affordable prices

Ah glad im not only one being rubbed up the wrong way by companies who do this! fed up of the massive charge they slap on because its a "wedding" if you were to quote for a normal party it would be half the price!!

And all these businesses that sell wedding decorations & bits...think ive got a good deal then i check out ebay and can get for 3 times less then what theyre selling!

    Its a rip off! x

same here,i went to a bakery and asked for a price on a giant cupcake and 70 little cup cakes got quoted £200,my now husband went in and the price for a giant cupcake and 70 small cup cakes for a wedding (all sponge no differences what so ever) he got quoted £500!!!,,alot of people use the wedding market just to make a profit, what should be a happy time is turned in to a nightmare because of pure greed!!!

I think that is the thing though it is just pure greed. I know I have to make a living and my time costs but even so I can do that without having to rip people off. I will be so glad once everything is set up so I can start to turn things around. Its like the guys on ebay are making a profit but they are selling at a decent price that we can afford. If they can do it why can't the rest?

I used to run a balloon decorating business, did really well but then i had my daughter and i couldnt do all of it. Now looking at wedding bits it winds me up how much they charge i never over charged for my balloons i would make a profit but not as much as what they are charging now. Wish i hadnt sold all my stuff and would open up again but good for the bayers of e so many on there are so honest and they have helped with most of the wedding !!

i get really annoyed with how much they add just because it is for a wedding. i think it is so immoral and should be legalised that you cant bump the price up just because it is for a wedding but i doubt that will ever happen! xx

I hate wedding suppliers - they're all like it, and cos we only have 2 months, the ones we haven't book think they can really take the p!ss! some of them have quoted me more than the prices on their webpages!!

you would think they would compete with each other to get the work, Ive noticed the thing to do is ask for a written quote for a service you want don't even mention the word wedding just say a family reunion if they ask, then once you get the quote book it on the quote sign the contracts etc then mention that its for a wedding they cant change the price then, its not like its a major difference.
That's why I'm getting most things myself, like flowers, wedding cake, decorations, wedding invites.
I think trading standards should do something about it cos its just not right and shouldn't be legal

Awwwww I know you do. Its planning my own wedding that has kicked all this off as I was so mad at how much people get ripped off which is why I did so much myself. At least now I know I can help others if it is too late for more of my stuff. I'm just getting madder the more trade accounts I get and the more I see the costs of the items.
