O.k so instead of a sit down meal we are having a hogroast, i'm just stuck as to what to do for a vegetarian option. Some friends of mine have offered to do the veggi options and salads as a present, i just need to write a list, i did consider jacket potatoes but then we have to keep them warm, so the only thing i have come up with so far is quiche. . . not very exciting, any ideas???
Where are you getting the Hog Roast from hun, could they not do a veggie option xx
CommentAuthordee
is that quite simple to make? And can it be eaten cold as we will have no means of keeping things warm, other than the hog that is. . .

They probably could but as we have been offered it as a prezzie it helps to save a few pennies where possible, i could ask them for a few ideas though and also maybe they mikght supply a hotplate. . .Mmmm got me thinking now, i shall send them an e-mail. Thankyou. Xx
my friend had a hog roast at her wedding - i'm a vegetarian so i took a disposable BBQ and some veggie burgers and had a great time sitting round BBQ-ing with other veggies while the carnivores were enjoying their hog roast. it wasn't incredibly sophisticated mind as i didn't bring any utensils but it was fun. Maybe you could provide your veggies with veggie burgers and they can eat them with bread rolls and anything else that you might do with the hog roast (salad, tomato sauce, alcohol...) :) xxx

I'm vegetarian and we're having a hog roast for our evening reception. We're having veggie burgers, and then all the green salads, couscous and halloumi salad, pasta salads, coleslaw, potato wedges, etc.
Don't want to offend anyone, but as a vegetarian I'd suggest staying away from nutroast. I can't stand it and it used to be what we always got given, but there are loads more things now. I'd definately talk to your caterer though. We went to a party that had a hog roast a few months ago and they did veggie burgers for the veggies :-) x

Quorn do a fake roast chicken thing called "family roast". You'd need to get a few but they do taste really lovely- hot or cold. There are vegetarian beef-style roasts, but they're not as nice.
It depends on the type of vegetarians attending though- some don't like the taste of meat (I love it, just hate where it comes from). Vegetable burgers would be a better alternative there.

We're having hog roast but the vegetarian option is vegetable skewers and also the trimmings for the hog roast such as the buns, salad and chips are suitable x

Nut roast..im not sure what it is though :-D

i agree, as a vegetarian, despite what everyone seems to think, not all vegetarians are mad keen on nut roast! - everywhere serves it to us (it's all my step mum ever fed me!) and it makes me want to chuck up. A veggie burger selection would be ideal. if you can't do a selection ask your vegetarians what they'd prefer :)
Are you self catering? or have you got a venue which will control/ restrict what you can do?
Also how many veggies are we talking? xxx

as a veggie too stay clear of the nut roast i hate it haven't come across any vegetarians that actually like it lol, id go for veggie skews, burgers and some salad maybe potato salad, pasta salad, and fruit salads etc
Mushroom and haloumi cheese kebabs- a winner if you have a bbq!

I make some lovely Greek wraps that have feta and spinach in them. They can be eaten hot or cold and are not messy as the filo pastry makes them perfect finger food. You can make them in small triangles for snacking on or into little mini pies etc for a main dish. TBH apart from the actual hog I should imagine that most of the other things like the salad, chips, bread etc are going to be the same. Do the veggies coming eat fish? That could be another good option. If they don't want veggie burgers you could always do something like a cheese and onion fryit kind of thing like they do in the chip shops.

i wouldnt offer nut roast as nut all veggies like it including myself, I would go for something like veggie skewers, veggie patties or burgers. Not all veggies like quorn either so its best to include something that all would eat. xx

We're having a hog roast and our caterer has suggested these for our vegetarian options: • Roasted tomato, crème fraiche and mustard tart. • Mediterranean roasted vegetable lasagne. • Roasted onion with cream, nutmeg and egg tart. • Roasted aubergine tart with olives, parmesan, cherry tomatoes and basil.

Just make sure the non Veggys dont eat all the veggy food! Im not a veggy I do sometimes prefer the veggy option but will always check there is enough for me to have that as I have been places and there hasnt been enough for the vegetarians to eat as the non vegitarians have eaten it all along with their meat.
I love a goats cheese and spinach tart yum yum

As a veggie of 21 years I agree on no nut roast. I would also keep away from Quorn - it's what everyone gives veggies and is very boring. Here's a couple of things I can think of:
Stuffed Pepeers (with Cous Cous) Stuffed Mushrooms with Feta or Goats Cheese and chives Halloumi Kebabs (always a favourite) Griddled Chunks Of Greek Haloumi Cheese Skewered With Caramelized Onions Spanish Tortillia Puff Pastry Cases Packed With A Creamy Mushroom, Garlic And Thyme Filling

we are having a hog roast too, and as there is only 1 veggie coming to the wedding, I aint that bothered about it. I am also asking my venue to do a very basic buffet of sandwiches and sausage rolls, so I guess the veggie can just munch on some egg or cheese pieces! lol

as a vegetarian i feel i should state it's not just us veggies who mess up menus! as well as several vegetarians and pescatarians and some variations in between, i have a family of gluten intolerants coming, a diabetic, a nut allergy, and some of the worlds most awkward kids! - try fitting that into a set menu! lol
