I went to the Jewellery Quarter with a friend from Uni and we went to the jewelers that design and hand make the wedding bands and i have got some good quotes on rings and i have realized Ernest Jones is a RIP OFF saying leave £1,000 budget just for my ring alone are you crazy the lowest i got was £180 to £350 depending on what i want
    .
H2B says he wants me to get White Gold I Love White Gold too but was thinking of sticking to silver like my engagement ring But White Gold It Is and It be More Expensive anyways

My wedding band will be in a Zorro kind of shape a lightning bolt because of my engagement ring and i think i want it thin and it has to have emeralds in maybe diamonds as well to match my engagement ring i also want my ring to be engraved on the inside with "Deaton 4 Life" i have read somewhere you can have up to 12 letters engraved so hopefully that will be Just Perfect.

The £350 ring i could get flowers and leaves engraved on the ring with the stones set on the Ring I Love the sound of that I will see but i will be over the moon with my fitted Wedding Ring with emeralds on the Zig-Zag Part and my message engraved on the inside.
Here's my problemo my H2B doesn't want matching Wedding bands i do he just wants a simple plain ring but I wanted the ring to at least have two stones on it he has not said no to engraving so maybe i can get away with the engraving part. He also wants to choose a ring but they have to match me nono i might be able to choose one for him that he likes :'(
What you Ladies think am i over thinking things stressing myself out for no reason ?? I Just want to have all ym ideas on paper so i know exactly what to do how much I'm spending from June 2014 Is that too much to ask for ?? :'( ♥ X

the problem is the price of metal goes up all the time including silver. If you have a silver engagement ring i would stick with the same metal, white gold is a funny metal you have to get it re dipped all the time and i think if you get all the engraving done on that it will just need to be done more often.

My hubby didnt get a matching band he just wanted plain where as mine has diamonds in it. So i really don't think you have to get matching. I spent £325 on my wedding band from a high street store and hubby's was £150 and they are white gold (mine is 18ct and his is 9ct) now they are £450 and £250 and thats just in 6 months.

If you want to get a ring designed like that i really would stick with a local jeweller as they do more bespoke work rather than the high street stores. They can take a cast of your ring so that your band will sit next to it. Once you know what you want and if a jeweller can do it i would consider getting yours done early next year as i said before the cost of metal is just increasing and increasing. Your h2b's can wait until later.

    Hope this helps

id stick with silver as its the same as your engagement ring.

And yeah, as mrs mann says the metal prices are skyrocketing at the mo, i worked in a metal fabricators - be glad we dont wear brass rings lol, the price of that at the moment is astronomical. god knows why, its so dated. I dont think the rings need to match either, i have my grandmas old wedding ring and im just leaving the boy to pick whatever he wants

2 Jeweler's will do my ring in "Silver"
2 Jeweler's will do my ring in White Gold 9ct or go for 18 c
Which One Should I Go For ??

I think H2B and I will opt for matching rings... Although I a also quite torn on this issue!! We already have matching engagement bands in silver (matching patterned bands are a tradition out there, and neither of us like gold). Even so, at work I wear it on a necklace as I'm scared to damage it!

I think you should shop around and see which place would be able to create what you want for the budget you have. It all depends on what you'll be happy with x

We accidently got matching rings, but intended to have different. Although I am going to get diamonds put into my ring so then they won't match. Out of all of our friends we are the only one who have matching wedding rings.

I accept that it looks like we are not going to have matching wedding bands and but they both have to be engraved with "Deaton 4 Life" or His say "Forever" Mine Say "AlwaysZ" as we have phone charms that fit together as a heart and when i get my Eternity Ring in a year I want it to have emeralds stones & engraved "For Eternity" But as long as I have My Perfect Wedding Band I will be A OK =D ♥ X

If your engagement ring is silver I would opt for a silver wedding band too, I have a 9ct white old engagement ring, and like others have said it is a pain as need to get it dipped every so often.
We too are having ours engraved with our initials and wedding date, but they are both plan bands, with an engraved heart on the inside as well as the details.

My eternity ring is a cross over diamond ring, already had it as we have our 1st child together and that's when hubby bought it for me :) so only wanted a plan wedding band

I'm glad you liked the JQ, it is a lot cheaper than high set jewlerrers and thy have so much more choice. I wanted matching rings but a few people said surely its better h2b Loves his ring and has what he wants rather than us both comprising to match each other?! Also how often are your rings together? For a few pictures on your wedding day but that's it xxx

If you love your engagement, why get a new one because of the metal of it. Silver and white gold basically look the same or very similar. So why does your hubby want you to have a white gold one?

Honestly, I don't like stones in men's wedding bands; and I see no reason at all for the bands to match.

My main band will be a shaped-to-fit white gold and pave set diamond band. H2Bs will be a simple, court-shaped palladium or platinum band.

Your H2B has to wear his ring for life; it is only fair he has something HE likes, not something you like.

As far as metal goes, I'm having mine in 9ct white gold to match my engagement ring. I may eventually upgrade both to platinum with a higher quality of diamonds; but that will be in a few years time. So I'd probably go for the silver for now; you can always get both re-made in a different metal 5 or 10 years down the line if they're showing wear and tear (silver isn't as durable as gold)

Ohh yay, glad you went down to the JQ... of course everything will be cheaper there, as wholesale and straight from the jewellers!!
Don't forget with white gold though that it may tarnish and go a yellowy shade so will need to be redipped occasionally! Most people go for the same metal as their e-ring but completely understand why you'd want to go for white gold.

Originally neither of us knew what we wanted, and tbh OH changed his mind more times than any bride would!! It was me that was struggling to find, and like you I would of prefered something that matched!! As Millz said, how often are they going to be seen together, and to be honest I'd prefer it if he was comfortable and happy with whatever ring he chooses!! As it turns out, our rings will sort of match.... im having a band with a diagonal line of subtle delicate diamonds going through.... and he is having one designed where he also has the diamond cut line going the same way through it, but minus the diamonds! hopefully will look as good as we think it will... we're going through a high street store, that have a design studio within the JQ and the store manager used to work in the design studio so has come up with the design for us... plus we get my uncle's discount (as manager of another branch) so sort of works out nearer to JQ prices!!

Lula88 aww your in the same boat as me but wow your OH keeps changing his mind about his ring lots hope he loves the design you have both picked, I want my H2B to be happy with his ring but I do really want them to match but my ring will be in a Zorro Shape Zig-Zag Lightning Bolt shape but with pointy round soft edges gonna talk to Chris about the metal again is it expensive to keep on getting your ring redipped and how often do White Gold rings have to be dipped? I would Love my H2B ring to be in the same shape as my ring and engraved minus the stones but it may look weird as my rings will look perfect together and lock in and be comfortable but he will have some next ring shape I dunnoe what to do I guess i should just let him decide aye your so lucky you get the money off coz your uncle and im glad its JQ prices as the quotes are extremely good and I love how you have the one to one and you work directly with them good customer service =D ♥ X

Re re-dipping: how often you need to get it done depends on a variety of factors inc the quality of the gold, and how you wear it. I've had mine since beginning Feb 2011, and have had it re-dipped once, beginning of March this year. It didn't really need re-doing, it was done for free when I was getting a quote for wedding bands. As it stands at the moment, it doesn't need re-doing. I wear mine all the time apart from when I'm showering and when I'm preparing food like raw meat; I've even worn it swimming on holiday, and never take it off when washing my hands. I also have a manual job. But, some people need to get theirs re-done every few months; it really varies.

However, I wouldn't necessarily let that put you off; the jewellers we plan on using have agreed to re-dip both my e-ring and wedding band for free for 'life', as many times as is necessary. A lot of independent jewellers I spoke to offered this service, so, I'd ask about this when getting quotes (if they don't agree to do it unlimited times, they might do it say once a year for you)

have you had a look at palladium?? its the same gene metal as platinum but nearer the price of white gold... therefore hardwearing, durable, doesnt tarnish and won't need redipping.
I would of gone for that but my ering is plat so paying little more so they match but OH is having pall....

put it this way his ring would of cost £2-2.5k in platinum, in palladium your looking at £750 in high street stores, and £250 in JQ.....

that way your still getting the 'white' rather than the 'gold' colour but no worries about re dipping or anything. some people are lucky that they only need it redipped once or twice EVER, but some get it redipped every 12-18 months! just varies on the durability and what you do etc. Don't rule it out but definitely have a think

I would stick with silver if I were you, as any other metal will wear away your silver engagement ring. Silver is so soft anyway, so personally I would not recommend if for jewellery that you wear every day for the rest of your life, but as your engagement ring is silver, you really should have a silver wedding band. Bear in mind that emeralds are very soft and not an 'everyday' stone' as they are very brittle and are usually oiled, so you should not really get them wet. They can crack very easily and can be expensive to replace as you have to colour match with the other stones. Rubies, sapphires and diamonds are a much better option for longevity. I speak as someone who has worked in a jewellers for years and have seen loads of rings with 'wear and tear'!

I agree with some of the other posts - you'd be better sticking to silver for your wedding ring, seeing as your engagement ring is silver.

As for Ernest Jones being a rip off - they're not really. It's just at the JQ you're getting wholesale prices as opposed to high street retail prices there. My engagement ring was from Ernest Jones and we couldn't fault them at all. Our wedding rings came from F Hinds though - only because we didn't see anything anywhere else that we liked.

We didn't get matching wedding rings because we both wanted something that suited us and also that we liked. I got a diamond cut patterned ring, whereas my husband wanted something quite plain and not too shiny (don't think the men's version of mine would've suited him really lol).

Thanks Sarah&Seb and Mym72 I am sticking to silver as its the same metal as my engagement ring and H2B has chosen his wedding ring our rings will be totally different but my ring will be finger fit and sits perfectly next to my engagement ring and will have emeralds and engraving on me ring. H2B titanium with Carbon Fibre Blue ring. My ring is 2.5mm me think n dunno what width H2B will choose will have to wait and see next thing is to decide when we can afford 33% of the price for the deposit and to make sure we can pay the rings of monthly over the next 3 years Its the waiting game now

Please can someone tell me where JQ is please, i have never heard of it and now intrigued to maybe make a trip there to get our wedding rings.
Again like everyone has said stay with silver to match your engagement ring and i don't really think that it matters that your wedding rings don't match.
We haven't got to the stage of looking at wedding rings yet and not really thought about what we will get, but it wouldn't bother me if the rings were matching or not.

My H2B are not getting the same bands as I have quite small hands it likes silly on me if I have too wide a band so any design is not really possible. My H2B really wants a celtic band, I would as well but it would just look clumpy on my hands so I really want him to have one while I will have a 2.5 mm light court ring and both rings will be in palladium as it is very durable and cheaper than platinum.

My engagement ring is white gold and i've never heard of this re-dipping business?!? I've had my ring for 2 years and it's as perfect now as it was then. I would stick to silver for your wedding ring but it's up to you if you want them to match or not, they don't have to though x

My engagement ring is white gold as well, if its 9 ct it tends need re-dipping less frequently than 18 ct.

Mine is only 9 ct and I have had it for 3.5 years and though the top is fine you can see underneath where it rubs against things that the yellow is slightly showing through, I only really noticed this when I saw it next to a new white gold ring and then it was so obvious.

I plan to get it dipped just before the wedding so it looks its best.

I'm off to the JQ on the 8th woo :) hehe can't wait, off to Birmingham to see hubby's family so taking a trip there and fingers crossed gonna get the wedding rings :)

I've been thinking our wedding rings aren't gonna be matching either. Love the ones with some diamonds in :)

Glad your gonna stick with silver as it is the same as your engagement, and may look a bit odd if not the same metal.
