I just wanted to know what day of the week is your wedding planned for and why have you chosen that day?
My boo and I have had discussions about getting married and one because he is studying we were going to wait until after he finished but now because of the 'logic' shared by my friend to my boo he seems to have accepted the idea of moving our proposed date a year forward. was like woo but then thought thats less time to save money so of course we are looking at different ways to cut cost but still have a lovely wedding and so he suggested getting married on a weekday.
originally we were going for a Sunday because we're adventist and we dont marry on Saturday (Sabbath) as we'll be at church and we wouldnt want the hustle and bustle of a wedding to detract from the Sabbath so Sunday is the usual choice but to cut more costs he's suggested the 1st September 2014 which is a Monday...
I'm still warming to this idea so any pros and cons would be grately appreciated lol

We are getting married on a Tuesday. Yes weekday weddings are much cheaper but you need to keep your guests informed as early as possible to sort out work etc.
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
Yep, agree, get it sorted as soon as with save the dates etc as people will need to book time off work. My first marriage was done on a Monday as well. This time though we are going for the Saturday.
Our wedding day - 6 October 2012

Thanks guys... thats a good point will have to let everyone know early especially as a few of the friends I want to take part work where I do and we're nurses so we cant have all of us off at the same time...hmm will have to beg them to book agency staff lol

We opted for a friday, it's not as cheap as mon-thurs, but is reduced alot from a sat. We thought that way, it would be like a long weekend for our guests who only had to take 1 day off for the wedding. At the end of the day you are just asking for 1 days holiday from work, if people really object then they are welcome at night time or not to come, thats what we have said to our family, but they all agree one day isn't much to ask!
We've gone for a Sunday. Unfortunately it's also bank hol so not working out cheaper!! Originally we were going to have a Friday but half the guests are jewish so fri night & Saturday are obviously the sabbath (similar to you). We've also chosen may bank hol as it is exactly half way between my OHs bday & mine! Sad but true! We counted between! Also as bank hol gives guests a chance to relax & not stress to much over work the next day! X

I'm getting married on Bank holiday Monday purely because we knew most of our friends and family would be available that day and if people want to take the tuesday off they will and if they don't they'll have to go to work with a hangover lol

We're getting married on a Tuesday. Mainly because in Cyprus they only do civil weddings Mon-Fri and the Tuesday is a good day because our flights are on a wednesday so will have a week before the wedding and then a week after for organising and holidaying.

Our venue price is exactly the same regardless of what day of the week its on (read: extortionate!) SO we're just going for a Saturday, we were originally planning on a Friday, but an unrelated conversation with a teacher friend made me re-think it as if she had to have a day off during term time, then it would be unpaid, and we are almost certainly gunna be getting married during term time. It's something I think we would consider if it wasn't, but only if the venue was cheaper mid week - I'd probably make a point of making sure we had it during half term. I know too many teachers, both friends and family which is why I'm being so accomodating about it haha

trying to accommodate everyone I think is the hardest. I just dont want to end up with an empty wedding lol I think the date we picked the school term wouldnt have started just yet so hopefully those i want to be there will definitely be able to come. i guess it will be important to get the save the dates sent out asap so we know what we're working with...how im feeling i'd do it now but we're not officially engaged yet lol we've just picked a date, decided on the church, and potential venue, who we want to attend theme and colour scheme...but not officially engaged lol

Hahaha, does anyone know youre planning it yet or are you dropping the bombshells all at the same time?
Just get your save the dates out asap! I think you'll be pretty safe as long as it's half term if you have teacher friends like I do! :)

I would Haggle with the venue to get weekday rate for a saturday, thats what we did. we also booked for the end of the summer season for weddings which helped.
CommentAuthormrsV2013
i chose a sunday as venue rates was much cheaper than saturday but we couldn't really have a weekday wedding as most of the guests work and found it unfair to ask everyone to take time off. we chose a bank hol and a school hol so everyones happy.

We get married on a Tuesday, its the day after the May bank holiday so we get a long weekend together before the wedding. Its also half term week so good for friends and family that work in schools x

NaomiD64 - 1st of September 2014 is the first day back at school after summer holidays that year. I am getting married on the 30th August 2014 which is a Saturday and my mum (who is a teacher) is back at work on the Monday. Maybe bring the date forward a couple of weeks (week before is bank holiday Monday so will be more expensive) if you have friends who are teachers or children that you want to be there. And we picked a Saturday as my dad works away during the week and so do some of our friends so they wouldn't be able to make a weekday, and obviously I want my dad there! lol xxx

We are getting married on a Monday I am a teacher so we are doing it in the school holidays. Plus we got our deal on our venue which made it to good to turn down. It has helped to keep the price down as well x

we're getting married on Sun 29th June. I too am a student and I finish uni that year. Chose then as it gives me a month after I finish uni to do last minute organising and my dad works away and isn't home till that week anyway. The Sun is also cheaper for us. Was going for a fri but my mum pointed out that some people who are travelling will have to take the thurs and fri off work, whereas the sun they can come on the sat and only need to take the mon off. And Naomi don't worry. We're not offically engaged either. Despite several hints this week :D I'm booking the venue this week and will be sending the save the dates out in the next few weeks to give people plenty of notice.

We got engaged over a year ago now, but havent magaed to get anything sortes as i too am a poor student (PhD, not undergrad) i feel your pain ladies!! I am such an impaitient person and this waiting is killing me, i have it all decided, i just need to pay for it!
CommentAuthorHalebob85
Yeah it is hard Kirsty. Oh PhD is hard. I'm lucky I'm undergrad again as my 1st qualification is a diploma and not an honours degree (which I'm doing now) so my studand loans will be contributing :D Also, my parents are helping as well. Shop around. I looked at loads of places that were £4000 at least then I found the one and it is £2000 all in. See my thread 'Found It' and it details what we're getting for that price.

I wanted to get married on a sunday but then none of them fell right, they were odd numbers (I have a thing about them) or too close to Christmas or peoples birthdays. I think realised that if we got married on a wednesday on the 12th (one of my fav numbers) it would a pretty historic date and he'd be in a lot of trouble if my oh forgot it lol so ours is the 12/12/12. And the savings have been a great help :) AND its means the people who we had to invite but didn't really want to probably can't come because they can't get the day off -result!

@Velcro i think the only people who know we're planning is you guys myself and my boo lol. the plan was to be together for a year before we get engaged and well its been 7months though we've known each other a couple years and knew we wanted to marry each other from very early on but i think a year wait is therefore reasonable for the sake of the mental states of our parents lol. it's just nice having a guy who is just as interested in the wedding as i am. he's doing his own research, joining wedding sites and even has a folder dedicated to just wedding stuff (so i dont feel to bad lol)
@Linzi-jo i was hoping school would start midweek like they always do...hmm may be i can convince him to go to the sunday before which would be the 31st august. the following Sunday would be my mums birthday and i think she'll be fifty that year so defo cant share that day lol

Were getting married on a wednesday as we are both teachers and it's in the school holidays. We just sent out save the dates earlier than normal so that people could get the day off to come. Were making a big saving on venue, photographer and videographer for having a weekday wedding.x

We're marrying on a Saturday in August. My best friend and chief BM is a teacher, my mum works at a school, and several of our other guests work at schools. We also want a big party, and have no cut-off time at our venue. We personally felt uncomfortable asking guests to take time off work, and we don't want people rushing home because they have work the following day. In our case, we also wouldn't have saved that much going for a weekday; the amount would have been negligible.
Week day weddings are getting more popular; and ultimately it's up to you. I'd just consider if some guests might find it difficult to take time off

We're getting hitched on a Saturday as I always wanted a Saturday wedding so noone needed to take time off work and H2B also wanted the same. We're lucky to be able to afford it .................my sister and BIL had a Thursday wedding because it was cheaper and there was not really much issue with people taking time off work but there were some who had to leave early to get home for a good night sleep before work the next day and in my experience of other mid-week weddings I'd been to I'd seen the same thing (partly why I wanted a Saturday wedding which was not much more than a Friday one). xx

I wanted to get married on my mums birthday (she passes away 12 years ago) and as we are also saving for a house next year is out of the uestion money wise so we have gone for 2014 and it falls on a friday.
Mid week wouldnt bother me if it had been a week day like others say as long as you give people notice then it shouldnt be a problem and those who really mean something to you and via versa will celebrate your day n matter what xx

We are getting married on a Friday and also because its is March we get the winter wedding package which means its so much cheaper than "peak" season. Its also Good Friday so did not have to worry about too many people having to book time of work. But still gave out Save The Date cards so they all had advance warnings and if they really want to be there they will make the effort :)

We are getting married on a Friday - the venue costs were £1,000 for a weekend day or £500 for a Friday, seemed like an easy decision to me.
Lol, if we'd chosen a Monday then the venue hire would have been £250.

We're getting married on a Wednesday, the date is 12/12/12 which we both thought was a brill day to marry, we didn't even know what day of the week it was when we chose the date, had to look on the calendar. We're married away in gretna with just a few close family and friends so it being a wednesday wasn't an issue for lots of people and those who are coming have all arranged their 3 days off work already, we're all staying in a hotel at gretna for 2 nights :)

I think that if we don't end up setting the date for our 5year anniversary (which falls on a Saturday) as we intend to then we'll definitely get married on a weekday, the savings just overshadow the downsides I think. Wouldnt think it would be a good idea if the couple are having a short engagement and want a big wedding though because as people have said it will impact attendance. But I tend to think if guests know in plenty of time then those that care will make the effort to be there!
CommentAuthorNaomiD64
I agree with the whole if they care and kno in good time they'll make arrangements to come. Even though the date will now be in August it will still be in a week day so gotta let ppl kno in advance...important ppl may have to no holiday at that time lol

Hmm, we're getting married on a Friday as we're hoping a lot of the people we can only ask to the evening part will then be able to stay on for a bbq on the Saturday and not have to rush back home for work on Monday morning... I think it's tricky no matter what you do - Saturdays are often more expensive, people want to get away promptly on the Sunday, but then weekdays demand more of people re taking time off work. Not an easy decision whichever way you look at it.
