We're getting married on a Wednesday. Not because we wanted to save. But because we really wanted to carry on family tradition. My parents married on 06/06, my in-laws married on 07/07/77, so we wanted 12/12/12. We haven't saved on venue because it's a package. But the registrar fee is £200 cheaper and things like the videographer and photographer are cheaper because of it being a weekday x

Thats nice FutureMrsDolman-I think I would like to stick to tradition if I was in your position too.
I originally wanted to set the date for 18th Sept as thats the date me and h2b officially became 'an item' but it means getting married on a wednesday :/ It could mean big savings so am really thinking about getting some quotes to see the difference in prices

That would be lovely. A lot of venues do things a lot cheaper in the week. There's a venue near us that do the entire package for £3999 (I'm a bit gutted I didn't discover that before we booked ours lol) if u book a weekday wedding. Get some prices. U mite fall lucky and get ur dream day on a date that means something to u both x

I wanted to have my blessing on a week day (anniversary) but decided against it when i realised alot of people have work commitments and wont be able to take time off

I was looking at a friday wedding as we are on such a tiny budget, but the cheapest venue was only £50 cheaper for mon-fri so it was pointless!
Were getting married on a Monday we have saved £150.00 on the wedding car, £50 on the registrar and £200 off the photographer. And it does'nt seem to have put anyone off it being on a Monday quite the opposite in fact.

I'm getting married on a Friday and i've had no problems with guests not being able to come. I sent out save the dates in advance so they were aware and could plan ahead. I havent really saved much money tho cus Friday is becoming a popular day for weddings and venues are charging the same Saturday prices (we chose our date cus its the anniversary of when we first met) However, my good friend is getting married on the Tuesday after the August Bank Hol and has saved about 3 grand on the wedding venue compared to having a saturday wedding!!!! Everyone is taking the time off work to be there. I know i'd much rather be celebrating a wedding than in boring work any day of the week ;) Go for it I say. If you want big savings then go for a Tuesday after a bank hol or perhaps a Monday - venue's are lots cheaper for those days xxx
CommentAuthorFitchMcCombe
I feel quite confident that if you book it plenty in advance and let people know asap then most people will make the effort, particularly if its a monday or friday since everyone likes a long weekend! The other options along these lines are to look at Sundays and off season weddings, which we plan to do :)

One of the venues that I've visited was 12k on a Saturday, but we were quoted 6k, inc a glass of Larent Perrier each :), for under 6k. That was for everything from start to finish for 60 guests.
We wanted to get married on a weekday anyway because it coincided with the day we made our relationship official, I have considered people not being able to come, but as I don't think any of our guests have jobs that might stop them being there, if they want to be there they will xx

Getting married on a Friday has not prevented any of our guests from attending xxx

I think if its a Friday or Monday most people can take a day off work and dont mind with plenty of notice... however i would struggle to have a mid-week day off work unless i had the whole week off so could be a struggle mid-week maybe?! xx

I think fridays work well, as most people have the saturday off anyway so only have to book the one day off, if people have to travel or want a drink and late night then they would have to book the next day off too, so if having a weds wedding that's quite alot to ask people to book 2 days off to come, i think so anyway. I'm looking more at off season to save the pennies

I dont see it is a problem if guests know in advance, however, if you have anyone who works in schools then they wont be able to get the time off so probably wont be able to come, but I think most other jobs will let people have days off. I always used to be able to book a day off in the middle of the week when I was a receptionist xxx

being a teacher myself, we decided to do the weekend wedding after all. we have managed to find a reception venue that is lovely and not over priced... a rare thing around here!! so a saturday it is! :) cant wait!
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Was that my venue MrsC2Be? ;)
I am having a Saturday wedding because I have always just wanted it on a Saturday as does H2B and my parents so we thought may as well, we're lucky though as we're getting some help with the cost otherwise we wouldn't be able to afford it.
I can really appreciate why people have mid-week weddings to save, I've been to many Thursday and Friday weddings, my sister had a Thursday wedding and it saved them around £6k from what a Saturday wedding would have been.

I'm in the horrible position that we've found a venue we love and e can get it for a highly reasonable price on mon-fri. Both sets if parents seemed to agree it was a good idea until today when both have separately decided it's not such a good idea. Both have offered to pay the difference for a weekend wedding, but it's going to work out £5k more expensive and I'm not prepared to accept that from them as they're already contributing. So now the dilemma, stick with a weekday we can afford, or find another venue that we don't love, but is more affordable for weekends?
CommentAuthorStacyT
our venue was only £600 cheaper for a weekend wedding, and we got a fantastic deal anyway £4500 for 60 day guests 120n evening 3 course meal, drinks, flowers toast master and evening meal. its soooo cheap compared to what is available here x
Cant wait to become Mrs Ellerington!!!!!

They are as long as ppl can get the time off work to attend also, you'll find bargains on everything cos weddings are traditional for the weekend so suppliers will be happier to give discounts because their items wouldn't normally be hired/bought in the week so it's all extra money for them x

Tom mentioned getting married on a weekday earlier. i told him to get stuffed lol
Laura - wouldnt a friday be ok? as most peiople really will only have to worry about booking a friday off than a weekday?
i couldnt imagine doing a weekday, we have one to go too next year on a thursday, im not sure if its in term time or not either so il have to pull my kid out of school, then instead of having a lie in in the morning, il have to get up undoubtedly knackered to take her in, luckily ive changed my job now, so i wont have to worry about booking two days off on top of that, im just not keen on weekday weddings really - pbviously budgets cant be helped but id sooner downsize and find somewhere on a friday or a sat rather than a Mon to Thurs
Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey
*Kelbel* is my wedding twinny!

I'd go for a Friday...people only have to take the one day off, rather than the wedding day and a day to recover, and everyone,Ickes an excuse for a three day weekend.
I agree with Velcro...I'd find it hard to go to a monday to Thursday wedding, and to be honest would probably resent having to use two days holiday.

We were considering getting married on a Thursday to keep costs down but it was actually a lot cheaper to get married on the Friday as they had a package deal on so do look around x x
CommentAuthorlizzylou
We're getting married on a Thursday, it was a lot cheaper, 4000 for 60 day guests, 100 eve, reception drinks, 3 courses with wine, toast wine, chair covers, evening buffet, dj, toastmaster, mirrored table centres and tea lights. And originally it came with a chocolate fountain but we swapped that for extra drinks. I hope it's a good deal because it felt like it! X

We got married on a Friday. It worked out about a third cheaper for both the venue and the cars.We didn't have a single guest that was unable to make it because it was a weekend wedding....in fact a few people said it was a great idea as they had two days to recover before going back to work! If people want to come then they will and remember not everyone works mon-fri so Saturdays can present problems for some people too.£5000 is a lot of money i think i would think about it very seriously xxx

We would have liked to have got married on a weekday but because at our venue we want the marquee it's only available on Saturdays.

Apologies for the double post, only just spotted it. Was just going to add, write out your guest list and put a tick next to people who you think would be unlikely to be able to make a week day. We're both teachers and so are a lot of a friends and most of my family are older and retired so it was a very small number that might not have been able to get there for it. If it had been more than half people couldn't come in the week we'd have gone for the weekend. Something to consider before you make your decision. No good having a lovely wedding of no one can make it!

My mums venue offered 40% discount for a Sunday... Even a Sunday on a bank holiday, so everyone still had the Monday off regardless, so she saved money & people still had a great time. Our venue had a flat rate for any day, so we chose Saturday (although we do appreciate the registrar costs more on a Saturday)
CommentAuthorMaryS88
hey, we are getting married on a sunday and found it much cheaper!!it seems fridays and saturdays are both peak days so cost alot more. we live in Scotland and getting married here but both of us are Irish meaning family will be travelling so we figured even if we had our wedding on a Saturday they would still need to take the Friday off work to get across so if we do it on a Sunday they take the Monday off instead but costs us a lot less!!x
