not sure how to do it cheap other than make own stationary and flowers etc. To raise money though wait for free listing days on ebay or do car boot. We made 75 quid today doing the car boot which will go in the pot. Also do buffet instead of sit down meal or do what a friend of mine did and have afternoon tea and cake... that was really nice.

    1. If you have any relatives who might be able to contribute, pluck up the courage and ask.

    2. Make use of friends and family. See what they can do for you to save money. Can they help cook, waiter, DJ, make you a bouquet, decorate the hall, whatever?

    3. What money can you save yourselves? Work out what you can put back each month. That plus whatever else you have is your budget.

    4. Can you sell anything you don't really need to increase that budget? It's a good time for a clear out!!

Make friends with charity shops - ask if they'll put back anything wedding-y that comes in. I saw a dress in one the other day for £20. It looked like one you might get from Debenhams for around £125. I could have had it altered and it would have been perfect - if I didn't already have a dress!

If you know anyone who has just got married, ask them if they have anything you can beg, borrow or steal. I'm getting some tealight holders that way.

Maybe a relative kept their wedding dress and would be happy for you to wear it?

If you like fruit cake, wait until after Christmas and get the reduced plain Christmas cakes (as the date should be ok for you) and decorate it - no-one will know x

If you search £1000 there is a thread that has some good pointers in it. Also look at some of the posts from Ricky and you will get lots of fab ideas. It can be done!

we are getting relatives to buy like the car and flowers etc as a wedding present rather than getting something for the house. It helps us out and plus we are already living together so have managed ok with what we have so everyone's a winner!

There are online budget planners. Go hunting. Maybe you can only save £1000, well work out how you're going to split that to get what you want/ need.

Having less guests is one of the quickest ways to save money because it cuts back on food, drink and some decorations.

If you can have a wedding with just 20 special people, you will have more to spend per head than if it were 50 or 100.

Get married later in the day, like 5pm and then just have one party afterwards. No need to feed people twice.

Not sure what has been said but this is how we are cutting costs.....

Getting married on a sunday out of season (november)
Having our wedding cake as dessert
Having a cash bar and only paying for welcome drinks which will be hot chocolates (well it is in winter hehehe)
    Borrowing a friends chocolate fountain
Having bacon rolls at the reception instead of a buffet
Having wedding and reception in same place, so not paying for 2 room hires
Having the car one way and for photos only so got it for half prize

theres a few more but cant think at the moment lol

Although Fridays are becoming the new Saturdays, so try Monday-Thursday instead.

    I have seen prices laid out like this;

    Monday - Thursday - £x,
    Friday and Sunday - £x+1
    Saturday - £x+2.

So try a late in the day, relaxed, weekday wedding with a community hall reception and bring your own bottle bar x

For photography Go to the local college or ask friends/ family someone is bound to be into photography (we are doing this)
Think of your colour scheme red is a great one as you can get loads of red stuff after xmas or valentines cheap!
Look on the bay for practically everything else hehe we have all our invite stuff and other little bits for next to nothing!
Favors can be super cheap! Make them yourself like cookies or get some moulds in a pretty shape and make chocolates or mini candles!

Look at where you want to get married! Our regisrty office is costing us just £43.50 for the small room (holds about 40)
for food in the day we are paying for just the MOH and Best Woman! everyone else will pay for themselves
Cash bar at the venue and supermarkets do some cheap sparkling wine as welcome drinks
Flowers Silks are cheaper then real and last forever!

    To save money I'm:

Not having an expensive dress: hoping to get a sale bargain or ex-sample, will also look at second hand/vintage/high street
Not having cars (everything's in one place)
Doing the flowers myself in glass vases/bowls and keeping them simple
    Making all stationary myself
Not having decorations: our venue is quite richly decorated and they're not needed; likewise chair covers and sashes
Only having 44 to the ceremony and wedding breakfast
Giving my BMs money towards their dress/outfit and letting them pick, rather than forking out for proper BM dresses, shoes, hair pieces, etc. They'll also be doing their own hair

    Other ways to save include:

Having a later ceremony and going pretty much straight to the evening reception, as this saves on food (skips the wedding breakfast)
Hiring a hall and either getting caterers in (you can do a really nice knife and fork buffet for £20 a head inc crockery, cutlery, linen and wait-staff: WAY cheaper than a meal at a traditional wedding venue) or asking friends and family to help heat food up and set it out (you can hire staff for about £20 an hour to serve food and drinks)

I'm hoping to have a budget wedding too, thanks for the tips guys!

I bet if you ask around there will be plenty of people just dying to help you out. The minute I updated my Fb status, I had messages from people wanting to make things for me/be my photographer etc, so I've said 'thanks but slow down' as I want to do a lot myself but am actually thinking of looking at what photos they've done before and experience in certain areas and might consider them, especially as the area I'd like to have my reception is going to be pretty expensive so everything else will have to be on a budget.
