I am hoping to get married in the Dominican Republic. I was thinking about a budget of about £8,000, does this sound about right? I could really do with some help with everything, as I have no idea where to start and do now know anyone who I can talk to who has got married abroad before. Any help or advice about anything to do with this topic would be much appreciated and any internet sites I can go to for extra help! Thanks Claire

I spent £8000 on my first marriage 2002 for 3 weeks in Florida over Xmas and New Year. The actual weddding was really cheap - it was the accommodation we chose and everything else that went with it (flights etc) that cost the extra. £3000 of it was spending money. I would suggest doing a google search for weddings in the Dominican Republic or try Sandals Resorts and/or Virgin. All travel agents will be able to price up weddings abroad for you....and I think £8000 will get you a very nice wedding day and honeymoon!

I'm sure you'll find what you want xx

hello, we are getting married in jamaica and 5 star 2 weeks all inclusive with a wedding package including all legal fees, flowers, location, reception for us and about 15 guests and a wedding planner is costing £4600 in total. then we can add extras on top of that but of course they arent needed. you would get a fab wedding for 8grand! we booked ours through first choice and it is definatly worth ringing up first choice weddings or speaking to a travel agent.
let me know if you need any more advice on anything hun, good luck! xxx

I've just looked in my Caribeen wedding guide...

    -No residency requirement
-Witnesses can't be related to you

And I presume your operator would organise the legal bits so I won't bother with those.

BTW- the DR is beautiful. I worked for a charity out there and the people are lovely, despite what you might here about locals.

Many holiday companies have special offers, like a free wedding with a booking for 8-12 people or discounted room rates for large groups(that way you can invite family/friends) so shop around and good luck!

Hi there everyone - this is my first post so fingers crossed I do it right! My Fiance, David, and I got engaged on my birthday this year after nearly 8 years together... we are looking at Cyprus for getting married abroad - looks gorgeous. Our number keep going up and up because my mother has a very large family! So at the moment we are at 179!!! But we are being quoted between £10,000 and £11,000 for the full 'sha-bang' at a 5 star hotel... anyone got married at either the Amathus Hotel or Coral Beach Hotel & Resort? Both of these in the paphos side of the island!
I used to live in the caribbean and Tobago is very nice but a very quiet island if anyone is looking for that, just thought i'd try and send some information back if i'm hoping to get some!
    Thanks Ladies!

A wedding in The Dom Rep will be amazing - i'm going their on honeymoon :-)
I have already been about 6years ago and OMG the Dominican people are probably the friendliest locals I have ever met when I have been abroad. They have so little (most dont have hot running water or electricity) yet they are always smiling makes you sit back and reflect we have absolutely everything in this country yet all we do is moan xx

8k for a wedding on the Dom Rep is plenty enough! Dom Rep is one of the cheaper Caribbean islands so you'll get more for your money. Just be aware that prices to go up quite a lot each year.

Hubby and I got married in St Lucia just before XMas and the 11 nights at Sandals (5 star all inclusive) with their free wedding package was £5.5k then photo's & few little extra's ect took it to just over 7k but that was just fr the 2 of us and 2 witnesses - the more people you have the more costly it is.

Heeey! Welcome to the site! Im newish and have found it so helpful already!
Im hoping to book a beautiful resort in the Maldives. We plan to book ourselves into a nice but not to expensive hotel a few days before the wedding (14th Aug 12) then the day before check ourselves, BM's and the best man into the One & Only Reethi Rah Maldives Spa & Resort where we will spend the night apart. We will get married on their private beach and stay on at the resort for a week in their water cabins. Our budget less than yours but it looks do-able!
We will only have 12 people there inc ourselves who are luckily paying for themselves (phew!) the invites are going out this month so they know the date to save for! We're not into big do's so it will just be a small but nice wedding.
I guess once you add all the optional extras on the budget starts to creep up a bit but I'm just being strict on what we spend and saving hard!
Defo pop into your local travel agents they will be able to help you massively! I've found the internet very useful too xxx

I'm getting married in turkey next year. Its cost us approx £3000 inc extras for 2 weeks in a 5 star hotel.I booked through thomas cook and they have been really really helpful. Its been sooo easy and we have until a week before or wedding to pay it all off. We have about 50 guests coming they are all pritty much family. We have arranged with the travel agent that they all book seperate but they sill get linked to our wedding so we know who is def coming. but they are all paying for themselves so if they want to be there longer they can be. we have even got our invites with all the details on i like custom printed invites at £2 each BARGIN!
