Hope u find a way to still have ur wedding. My mum and step-dad got married after being together for 16yrs. They kept putting it off due to finances and eventually thought if thy kept doing tht thy would never get married. Thy done it on a shoe string and only cost them a couple o grand. Y not go for a small wedding witha meal and then have a reception on another date tht might cut costs a bit xx

We had to cancel our wedding earlier this year due to money problems, and I was gutted too, but now we have decided to have our church wedding, just have 40 guests and do the wedding reception in our garden with marquee, bunting, vintage bone china tea sets and fairy lights. No it wasnt' what we originally wanted but we want to get married so much that spending just about £1000 on our wedding is fine, the outcome will be that we are married and happy. But I agree with angela on this one, cut down on other occassions, they will understand as the money is going towards something very special. We are doing the same for our Xmas, just getting gifts for the children but not buying for each other. I'm happy as long as I have wine anyway, lol. Hope it all works out for you. xx

i totally agree with everyone here, we are on such a tight budget, i would rather spend the money on my children and still have a fab wedding day, we are just happy to be getting married to one another and having the important people (approx 120) to celebrate our special day with us. we are having a late church wedding and and evening buffet and disco, cutting out the meal is so much cheaper. dress was bought from a bridal shop in the sale of discontinued dresses, its a maggie sottero dress and i love it! you can easily get married and have a lovely day for much cheaper. i wouldnt postpone it, i would sit and see what can be done to reduce the costs. good luck xx

21st October 2011 will be the best day of my life!!!

Bee that's EXACTLY what I've been doing, a little bit here and there.
At the end of the day all I want is my partner to be my husband, I'm doing the best I can on one wage.
My motto : If we can afford it, we shall have it, If we DON'T have it, we aint gonna miss it!
P.S I'm working to a VERY tight budget too, and also have 6 birthdays from September - December 26th, as well as Christmas , if I can do it on one wage ... YOU can do it too Emma !

I think you have options, so don't give up. You can save over a longer period (eg delay the wedding rather than cancel it) and you can probably reduce the budget by sourcing things carefully and choosing slightly cheaper versions where nobody will notice. On the other hand, I think some of the comments above (eg Rags') are mean and unnecessary, you only get to get married once and if you want to wait until you can have your dream day that's fair enough.

Some of the things you said above that you are going to have to spend on don't seem that bad to me - eg your daughter's second birthday, two year olds don't really have that much idea what's going on so could you not just buy her one non-expensive toy to distract her, then pad it out with stuff she actually needs that you would have to buy anyway, like clothes? When my brothers and sisters were that age they seemed to enjoy the unwrapping much more than playing with the toys!!

As for other birthdays and Christmas, they really don't have to cost a fortune - choose thoughtful gifts like a good book that you can get for £5 and that will be appreciated, and don't buy for anyone except immediate family. Most people I know with kids only buy for each other, their kids and their parents, and when it comes to parents I bet if you spoke to them, they would rather you saved the money for the wedding anyway.

I agree with what everyone has said, try to downsize and pay for things as you go. Reduce your budget etc....
We are getting married on a 4k budget in 17 months time, but have paid for a lot of things as we went along from bay of e etc so it doesnt feel like it has come out of our wedding budget as such.
There are enough brides on here who could help you find ways to cut costs and still have a beautiful day.

Ok - we got ours in at £6.5k - you will have more than enough - with a bit of clever planning and some hard work it can be done. Everyone thought we had spent at least twice what we did!
You have plenty of time and there are loads of venues around your area - I know I am not far away and did look down your way!
I agree with everyone else I bet between us we could get you married a year earlier and hit the budget! After all it is what we are all good at! xx

ok, going by your calculations, I reckon you were saving about £317 a month.

So if yo save £200 a month (not including December orJanuary this year or next) that will still give you £4k and you can get married end of 2012? or if you really wanted to keep going until 2013 like you had planned then you could have £6400.

that is MORE than do-able. And it means you dont have to save anything in December or January so you get to have Christmas too.

We all have to struggle through birthdays and christmas hun, but we manage. We have to or we just dont get married. And if you dont save, then you will never get married!

You can have the perfect wedding on a much smaller budget than 11k. It may not be exactly what you want but aren't the vows the most important part of the day?
My budget was 5k it's now 4k and we're doing pretty well on that.
Be brutal with the guest list too. I told my h2b to write his list a few weeks ago and he reeled off about 50 names and then had to stop and think of the rest... At that point I told him they weren't that important because he really had to think to remember them. Only invite people you talk to.
Also; Look on the bay - I have bought LOADS of my things off there. £3 for a veil... I bought it as a 'joke' for the hen night but it is so gorgeous I'm now keeping it for the day!
Use your imagination and you can save money in a million and one ways.

Sorry to hear that babe....that's rubbish! We have explained to everyone that every penny we earn is being saved and that just for that time all they will be getting is a card! Everyone was so supportive and understanding even the grandchildren, who to be fair will get a present but a much smaller one than usual. All these people are invited and I told them I want the best day not just for us but for them too. We have even cancelled Christmas and I'm working over the holidays for extra pennies. Maybe you could try explaining to your people? Christmas and birthdays are every year, you will only have one wedding. Good luck hun xxxx
