personally we are having church wedding and then a 20-30min drive to reception. it will give us some time together on our own on the drive over. however we have a package deal with our reception that included civil ceremony etc too so in terms of cost it would have been much cheaper to go for all in one place - you save money on cars etc then too. i think it depends on your budget x

Just be aware if you do have your wedding and reception in one place that you'd need to pay fora registrar on top of what the venue is costing. So see what the balance is. We're having it a registry office then hotel. Some hotels will also charge you on top to have the ceremony there too. Just make sure you search out hidden costs first. You may save on travel but you still need the registrar which can sometime be about 400 depending on how far the venue is etc..

Think about parking or transport for your guests. Where I live parking is a bear for the registrars office and it's too far from my venue, so that's not really an option.
It's worth looking into packages because they often include the room for a civil wedding, although you'll still have to pay the registrar.

Were trying to decide the same thing ourselves, were swaying more towards the wedding & reception in one venue purely for convenience. We will make our final decision once we have viewed our venue & seen the ceremony room.
Price wise theres not much difference between this & a church wedding, the church will be £700 whereas a registrar to our venue costs £485 plus £35 notice each.
