I just found out 5 minutes ago online that my venue is closing down in January 2012 next year. My wedding is in August 2012. Absolutely devastated and cannot believe this is happening...

Hi honeypie, I'm so sorry if I broke the news. I was hoping they had contacted you. Our friends told my h2b over lunch today so think they've only just heard though not sure if they were told directly. They're getting married in June.
I'm trying to think of similar venues in town. It was for your evening reception wasn't it? So it doesn't have to be licensed for ceremonies? x

No smarties I hadn't seen anything you posted - just seen it on facebook and read the press release, no contact from venue at all. Just rang up and they said the events manager has left for the day and will get back to me on Monday. It's for the evening reception yes - but it needs to be big enough to hold all the guests we've invited! And if we don't get out money back I'm pretty stuck. Think I'll be hard pushed to find somewhere half decent anyway this late on...very upset :( x

The press release says their sales and marketing teams are trying to find alternative venues to host their already booked events in 2012 - would that include your wedding reception maybe? Definitely ask the question and play the sympathy card when you speak to them Monday!

I'm afraid I don't have any helpful suggestions, I just hope you manage to get some money from from them and sort out another venue locally.

I've been thinking about you, any news? Our friends have changed their venue to one opposite the CUC. It was recommended by CUC and is similar, but I'm not sure where they mean. X

Hello ladies..It's been a stressful few weeks but we finally have a new venue...CUC have been absolutely useless, they didn't recommend anything, barely spoke to us and said they'll give us our money back eventually, but they don't know when!
Anyway...exciting new venue - 62 Castle Street in Liverpool. It's a beautiful boutique hotel right in the city centre with a gorgeous restaurant attached. Roughly the same price as the other venue but it looks so much nicer and a lot more 'weddingy'....I used to work in the hotel about 7 years ago, but it's been completely revamped and now looks very swanky, so I'm very pleased! Big enough to hold our 250 guests, and they also allowed us to block off all the 20 luxury rooms especially for family and friends to stay, so a bonus there as we now literally have the hotel to ourselves! :) Paid the deposit straight away and we've got a menu tasting in January :) staff are all lovely too, so I'm very excited! x

Becky we were shown around all of the rooms - the bridal suite is fantastic it's like your own little apartment, and they organise flowers, champagne and chocolate for you- lovely! (I can vouch for the food too!) x

there is a car park around the back about a 2min walk just down a little road so very close, and loads of little side streets...I guess you could also park in liverpool one, but there are loads of taxis around so we're not going to bother. Easy to get to!

Ohhh honey! so sorry to hear that i cant imagine what ur going through or feeling!
I wouldnt panic if you haven't go any wedding insurance...when your ready just take a deep breath, and take everything you need to sort one step at a time. Talk to them monday about your refund (which should be in full because its not your fault!) and then also ask for compensation in relation to invites that have to be resent etc.
Really hope you get it sorted, update us on monday and let us know what they say.

thats brilliant news, although u could've done without the stress in the 1st place! Like jillybean said, I'd ask 4 compensation 2 resend the invites as well as the full refund. Its awful that they didn't have the decency 2 write 2 u personally or even just a phone call. But that might b the reason why they're closing down; cos of lack of customer care! x :)
