So my H2B and I were discussing transport for me to the venue yesterday and he made an interesting comment and I am curious to what other people think.

For background info, we basically have found a gorgeous venue, and one of the things they have is a room where the bridal party can get ready if they want. So you could have your hair and makeup done on site etc. I had it in my head that I'd get ready at home, but suppose I am flexible. We are going to be spending a lot of money on this venue, so we both want to save money elsewhere and not get carried away, so I suggested hiring a black London style taxi to take me to the venue (we have local companies that use them regularly). I was thinking its a good idea because it would look ok and be the cost of a normal taxi (I could even force the taxi driver to put a bow on it!). But H2B thinks it will look cheap and like I am trying to do wedding transport on the cheap. He feels it would be better if I was driven in our car, a Saab 95 estate in Black. He says it will just look like we've not gone for transport at all and therefore not look cheap. I'm not convinced!

So what do you all think? I suppose if I went to get ready at the venue guests won't see me arrive. Has anyone done this? Was it ok? We are staying at the venue all day until we leave at night to go for accommodation and I don't mind what car we have then. I am keen to save money where I can, especially because it puts me in good ground with H2B for when I do want to splash out (maybe on the dress or something!). What do you all think?

To be honest, even if you did arrive by car all guests will be inside anyway and dont see you arrive. It will.only be your bridesmaids and whoever is giving you away and your photographer who would see which evercar you decided on.

I am getting ready at my future mother in laws house because she lives directly oposite the church. Then me my bridesmaids and my dad are all going to walk to the church which will make for lovely pictures i think.

I think if you are getting ready at the same venue you are to.be married at, there is no need for cars.

    Just my opinion

Like beanies girl said, noone will see you arrive anyway because all guests will be inside the ceremony room by the time you get there.

For my sisters wedding, my sister, me and the other BM stayed the night at the venue and got ready there that morning to save money on the transport and to guarantee that way that we didn't have any hiccups with getting to the venue on the day (we were a little worried due to the distance that something would happen and we'd not arrive. It worked out perfectly and I think in a way made the morning getting ready more relaxed.

I think getting ready at the venue will be good to save on transport costs and also make the morning more relaxed for you. However, some brides (like me) want to do the traditional, get ready at the parents house and leave from there.

It depends what's important to you hun.

For the reason beanies has given this is why we arent having transport and we will probably both get ready att he venue or at least I will and he can make own way there lol x

I agree if tradition is a bit thing like IDL says then you have to go with your heart but we are looking at about 1hours travel to get to the venues we are looking at and 1 I cnt be doing that far having to watch my hair, veil, flowers etc & 2 Im not really that into the tradtion as we dont live in what i would class my parents house as well moved 5 years ago and it not what i call their home (doesnt help that its a B&B lol) x

We aren't paying for transportation to the venue, I'm getting ready at home and h2b is getting ready at his parents house, I need to travel about half an hour to get to the registry office, but my dad will just drive us there, but some ribbon on the car and away we go. my h2b will be doing the same with his stepdad as well going in his car, then we will just use one of the cars to get to the reception venue. It saves cost, I can't believe how expensive it can be to hire wedding cars.

The only reason I didn't want a taxi is you don't know who/what the last fare was, the last thing I would want is dog hairs or something all over my dress!!! However, I quite agree that paying an extortionate amount for a good photo opportunity is not a good idea either. I really like the suggstion of using your own car - provided you can get someone to drive you

You all raise very good points, i think i will just go by our own car and get ready at the venue. I didn't think about it, but the ceremony room is on the wrong side of the building to see me arrive anyway, and the point about the last user of a taxi is a very good one!!!! Thanks girls, i'm in the early stages of planning and you are all very helpful already!

I think a black cab would look really good! Very vintagey :)

I've been trying to get my fella to let me have a VW campervan. To no avail.

We saved a fair amount by me getting ready at the venue. I had to pay for an extra night at single occupancy but it was a lot cheaper than hiring a car, so bonus,

I would say go for what you want xx it is you who will know about it and be in the picture!

im in two minds about this for us at first i wanted a limo but the one i want was misleading as it said £195 and then when i rang for a quote it was £395!! so that was out of the question! then the other quote i got i dont really like the car! i dont want a vintagey car or a posh car but i need transport so might have to go in my parents car which at least is the right colour haha. Also ry wants the guests to be transported from the ceremony to the reception in an open top bus which is going to be £150 (for about a 10 min ride) and it not going to benefit my family as they will no doubt take their own cars and wont want to leave them at other side of town! still i dont know what to do now :(

I'm not really a car person so was looking at a horse and carriage but now my h2b tells me he doesn't want one (we are marrying at a church so would have to travel from the church to the reception venue in it) so don't know what I am going to do. But if I had the choice of getting ready at the venue I would probably do it as I think it will make the whole morning much more relaxing getting ready wise and you dont have to allow for traffic time etc. xxx

Keep pushing for your vw campervan KathleenJ lol. My husband didn't want one either at first - but I battled him down til I got a gorgeous white one - and he liked it as well in the end ;-) lol.
