Hi, I'm new here, and slightly overwhelmed by all the wedding talk, but an aquaintance of mine recommended I have a look on this site to get myself started.
The truth is I've been engaged for about 1.5 years, and have done nothing towards the wedding because my dad (who was originally going to be paying for it) was waiting and waiting, and keeping us all waiting to find out how much money he had available..
    Then he went bankrupt.
My fiance is a law student, and I work myself to the bone trying to pay rent. We are meant to be getting married in September this year, but I have no idea where to start, especially on such a small budget. None of my friends are married, I have no one I can ask, and my Maid of Honour doesn't really help because she keeps suggesting really crazy things as if we could actually do that, (hire a castle, um, realistic much?) and tyo be honest, all she cares about is the hen do which she wants to be a week long. Right now I just want to find a way to get married, not get her laid :-P
I thought about getting a dress on ebay (from China) and having it altered if it isn't quite right). The only problem is I can't stand strapless dresses (and mostly they all are) so I would have to buy a lace shrug or something.
Other than that, I haven't thought about any other wedding related bits and pieces, because I do not know how to begin.
Not sure if anyone has any ideas that would help, but I thought I'd post this anyway.
    Soph. x

My girlfriend and I are on a budget of £899, and we can do it for that. OK we are missing out transport and a photographer and fancy stuff, but we can do it for that.

I had the sae sort of reaction, have a weekend long hen do, do this and that etc etc etc. Makes me feel like a party pooper saying no to it all the time.
There are some dresses on the bay of e that arent strapless, and very reasonably priced too. I am sure with some luck you can find something you like. Personally I actually enjoy spending a lot of time looking at wedding dresses, bridesmaids dresses etc etc.

What we did was a list of what we wanted, and then went through crossing off anything non-essential and trying to think of other cheaper alternatives.

Write out a list of what you want.... one list for essential and one for desired and start searching around for prices to get an idea of how much it will cost... there are some fab threads on cost saving on this website and i have been to a few local free wedding fairs for ideas and costing. xx

I ot my dress in the sale for £100 and the veil and tiara were £50. Also my friend did all his invitiations and RSVP's on facebook... didnt cost a penny... not posh but definitely did the job and nobody batted an eyelid. I am making my invites, has cost £35ish. Also, perhaps get a photography student to do the pictures, that will cost around £50. We are asking for contributions to the wedding rather than gifts, that has gone down surprisingly well, H2B was scared people would think it rude, but everyone thinks its a great idea, they give a gift of money which we need, and they dont have to worry or think about a present, we have had over £800 in donations so far and not everyone has contributed. Good look hun. shop around and think creatively and you should be fine x

Hiya, i'm new to UK Brides and on a budget aswel, but i'vebeen looking round other sites before i found this one :) Money saving experts.com was quite useful for me, not just for wedding stuff but the info i found on there was really good.. I don't know your budget but

    POST EDITED .. LINK REMOVED

    Cheaper wedding venues:
    • Holiday inn
    • Britannia hotel

There is another company that does a similar offer, its explained on the link above (but there isn't any in the northwest so that was no good for us) but yea basically the Britannia one is really good... I think its a 3 course wedding buffet for 50 people and 100 for an evening buffet reception... for £1000 which seems like an alright deal to me... and Britannia are all over the country x

Have a look at clubs as I'm having my reception at the local rugby club and all i have to pay is thee deposit that i get back at the end of the night. I know its nothing flash but is big enough for all my guests and has parking which I will need as have a lot of family travelling to the venue.

Or even your local pub. We are having our usuals function room for our celebration party. Need to look at it sober though so can decide how to dress it.
