Hi, I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on this!! Am on the hunt for a particular style of wedding ring for our wedding in May which is proving difficult! My engagement ring is 18 carat white gold with a 1 carat round solitaire with a 0.25 baguette diamond on each shoulder. My fiance bought it direct with the certificate from a jewellery dealer who buys diamond rings in Antwerp so we didnt get it through a shop. I've tried on a few plain wedding bands but they dont really look right with my engagement ring as my engagement ring iS raised in the way it's set. I have tried several jewellers to see if there is anything that will go with it and there is nothing and what they have close to is WAY outside my budget. On E T S Y I seem to have found the perfect ring, it has three 0.25 baguette diamonds on a plain band, but it is 14 carat white gold instead of 18. Do you think it will look different to the 18 carat metal? I asked a lady in a jewellers and she said yes, but she would because she was trying to get me to buy one of their rings! Do you think I should take the chance and buy it? It's from the USA and does have a 30 day moneyback guarantee. I was just wondering if anyone knows if there is a vast difference in the two metals. Thanks

I'm not sure if there is a vast difference, but I know ideally you're not supposed to wear different carats as one metal will eventually end up wearing the other down x

Looks wise, there shouldn't be much difference at least at first; however, different makers use different alloys which can affect how quickly it yellows; but as Flossie said, it's best not to mix metals as 14ct is harder than 18ct and so may wear down your engagement ring.
What type of seller is it? Reason I ask is that if they make jewellery, they may be able to make it in 18ct gold for you. Failing that, have you considered contacting a UK based jeweller to get a quote? I found Hatton Garden based jewellers to be extremely reasonable, inc for custom work, so that's an avenue I'd explore, esp as IMO it's a good idea to actually try the rings on together; it's difficult to tell from a photo how it will actually sit with your engagement ring and you may end up disappointed.

Any good jeweller should be able to take a mould of your ring and create one that sits perfectly. Prices will vary but hatton garden is good, as is Sm00ch who are online based and will visit you at home for a no obligation quote

I'd advise going to a reputable jewellers that you can commission a bespoke ring. We went to one for both my e ring and our wedding bands. They're no more expensive than a high street jewellers, you get better quality and exactly what you want x
