We have lots of people commenting on the rules regarding Wedding diaries ....
Under the category heading it states - To stop us being over run with these threads on the front page, this category WILL be sunk after 12 /24 hours! So if you want to keep up with each others diaries please BOOKMARK !
please note the moderators will be going through all diaries and sinking those that need doing ..... if you are unhappy with this decision please feel free to contact me and i will take appropriate actions !!
Sorry, this is probably a really stupid question... but I can't seem to find it anywhere myself. I've bookmarked a couple of threads... how do I get to my bookmarked threads if I want to check them?

go to "catagories" next to "discussions" then scroll down until you find the wedding diaries catagory (My Wedding Planning Diary!) its the 5th from the bottom... click it & a list of the diaries will be there hun. There are currently 200 diaries
Donna your bookmarked threads will be right at the top of the first page of the forum.. they will pop up if there are new comments in them, but if there are no new comments it will just read "(Show Bookmarks)". Click on it to expand it and all posts you've bookmarked will come up x

Ok.. so next question..
Why was I told yesterday that I can unsink the thread myself if I have a new comment to add.. then it will just be sunk again after the next 12 hours of inactivity? It has been re-sunk straight away?

If you click onto a thread, there will be a "Bookmark this discussion" option on the top left hand side. If a thread is sunk it remains open but if a new comment is put on there, it will not bump it up to the first page of the forum, it will just be lost amongst lots of older threads. x

Now I'm confused lol. I've just added to my diary asking for some opinions but it hasn't shown up on the front page, it hasn't moved up to the top of the diary's category page and the title link says last post 3 days ago (although I have just posted on it). I've tried un sinking it but this hasn't work, will it only unsink if someone other than myself comments on it?

I don't think anyone is interested in my diary but all your questions have taught me how to bookmark etc, I didn't have a clue! :) It's much easier to keep up with things I have commented on now.

Mrs D, you will need to unsink it yourself before you add a new comment. If you add a new comment whilst it is still sunk, it will not come up on the first page.
Still not sure if we are meant to be unsinking ourselves though... ??

ahhhh right that's where I went wrong. I was only trying to unsink it because I was hoping for someone else's opinion otherwise I wouldn't be too worried weather it appeared or not. suppose I could just start a new thread to ask the question but it seems a bit pointless lol

I think it's always been a "rule" but maybe wasn't being enforced? That's what confused me the most.. I can accept it if it's a rule, just confused as to why it is only being followed/enforced now!! x

Yeah I remember that.. although the argument there was because it had been so long after her wedding. I can't really get my head around current ones being sunk. The topic is relevant and they help a lot of people... x

I really don't understand why they need to be sunk!! I see the reasoning is so that planning threads don't clog up the 1st page but if people are interested & commenting what's the big deal with it staying there?? Once new threads are opened or people stop commenting on the diary it will naturally fall off the 1st page anyway!!

hello Ladies .
The mods have been talking long and hard regarding the sinking/non sinking debate that has gone on and we have come to the following decision
All wedding threads will be be sunk 24hrs after initial posting .... if they reappear on the front page due to being unsunk they will be sunk again, at one pint recently we had 7/8 wedding diaries on the front page.
If there is a particular members thread you are following please bookmark it.
We realise that not everyone will be happy with our decision but we are doing the best we can.
All rules to the forum are subject from time to time ( in original days we allowed links to be posted ! )
We apologise if there has been confusion regarding the rules
Just to clarify should we not be unsinking our planning threads then?

Nope, they will remain sunk, so if you wish to follow anyone in particular you bookmark them and keep up to date that way. Hope that helps.

I really don't see why they need to be sunk (as explained on my post above)!! With this new 24 hour rule lots of people will miss out on new diary's, if they miss coming on the site for a day or 2!!
CommentAuthorDonnaH39
Thank you again.
I understand the rules need to be rethought sometimes, so thank you for clarifying this.
I think we'll all just have to start using the categories function a lot more to look at diaries.
Also I don't think new diaries will be taken off the front page after just 24 hours as it takes longer then that for them to end up on the second page... unless there are a lot of new threads or a lot of people posting on other threads that day.
CommentAuthorElizabethF49
I understand rules are rules but how will new people read the planning threads. I get why you want to keep the front page clear.
I think thats why they are now sunk as the forum isnt that busy for them to drop off the front page within 24 hours so are sunk.

CommentAuthorDonnaH39
But when they're sunk they don't drop off the front page straight away... they sort of naturally fall off as other things take them over, if that makes sense?
So once they're sunk they don't automatically go to the next page, but when you post on them they stay where they are... it's only when new topics are started or old topics are commented on that these topics then go above the sunk topic. So if a diary is sunk but then people only comment on 4 other threads, in that time the diary will be the 5th topic down? I think that's how it works anyway
CommentAuthorJennK
Ridiculous.

I don't understand why though. Surely the forum is to discuss weddingy things inc Using our own planning. What's the problem with the planning diaries being on the front page?

To be honest I would rather read the planning threads than the endless question of my moh is pregnant what should i do? or eeeekkkk my dress just arrived. So many of the posts are asking the exact same question that to me it seems much better to have the diaries on the front page so that new brides can get LOTS of new ideas rather than having to trawl for the decent threads. I honestly think that only brides whose weddings have passed should have their diaries sunk. My opinion only

I agree also with about of what the other ladies have said, that I prefer to have look through a diary thread than all the moaning gripeing threads, and if they are on the front page that must of had a update our people interacting with it, and not that interested in other stuff for it to sink from front naturally. And how are new members who are confused about how to work the forums, seeming as I still get a bit confused after 3 years, how are they supposed to even see my first to be interested to look and then know how to bookmark?

Surely sinking the diary's will just mean instead of people updating their diary's they will now just start hundreds of new threads (my dress, bridesmaids/flower girl dress, suits have arrived, my hair & make up trial, my invites, etc) I for one probably won't bother with the diary now, whats the point if most people won't see it!!
CommentAuthorFlossie
I appreciate the need for rules but don't agree with this one. As others have said, if people are reading and commenting on the wedding planning threads then there is interest in them and they are completely relevant, so I don't see why they need to be sunk. Why does it matter how many end up on the front page at any point? You might get several threads regarding hen parties or honeymoons or buying a dress on the front page.. Yes duplicates are often closed with the official threads bumped up, but then the threads still remain on the front page even though they are closed, so are still taking up room.
If it was me I would just let it happen naturally. If people are no longer interested in a thread then they will stop commenting and it will sink itself naturally.
For me the wedding planning diary threads are one of the best things on here and I think those members who are new should be able to read them easily. Think they are more helpful to anyone than a lot of the threads that get posted on here.

Can we have a new official thread made by the mods for 2016 brides? Don't really see the point of the wedding planning diary category anymore so would be nice to have an alternative place to post and discuss our plans?

Ok ladies, I, we, appreciate your comments. As lala has said, it's to keep the front page being full of wedding planning diaries, if the front page is full of them, this forum will then just appear to be a 'wedding planning dairy' forum, hence why you can bookmark them, just like you would do with any regular sites you visit via the Internet on your search engine. This way, others can ask an array of things, sometimes duplicate, which like Flossie mentions gets closed. They then get sunk after a certain time, or even deleted.
Brides to be come on here for advice, all of different kinds, whether this be moaning about a bridesmaid, mother, sister, whoever. They appreciate the advice which is given by all of you, so please take some time to consider how, after reading this thread with some of you saying that you would rather read a wedding diary than someone moaning about a bridesmaid etc, how they now feel. Maybe they won't bother posting things like that anymore in case it annoys others, instead of getting the advice others have had.
As we appreciate your comments, please in return appreciate the fact that the rules are to sink them after 24 hours with them being bookmarked, in order to keep the front page free for other advice brides may enquire about. If you were to come on here as a new member and see a page full of wedding diaries, you wouldn't stop, you'd think that was what the site was about, instead of stopping, saying hi and asking questions.

I don't think it needs to be an official thread made by mods Flossie, I made the August 2015 bride thread.
I can understand why we don't want the planning threads taking over the front page, although this is a place for planning weddings it is also a place for people to come and ask for advice.
CommentAuthorMrs D2B
Can we have a 2017 thread as well please. I probably won't bother with my diary anymore then I liked the idea of it and thought it would be a great way for me to ask the million of stupid questions I have with out clogging up the forum with new posts but if know one will see them there's no point. Fine by me.... you get more points for starting a discussion than commenting on one any way.... PU here I come!!!

Mrs K ... if you click on categories and then wedding diaries it will bring up all of them so you can then catch up to your hearts content
I've noticed quite a few wedding planning diaries being unsunk and returning back to the front page of the forum recently so thought I'd just remind members of the rules around these threads.
Once they are sunk they should remain sunk, please do not unsink them.
If you wish to follow a particular member's diary please bookmark it.
Thank you.
