Ok, so our reception venue isn't a hotel, it's set in the local park - our reception party is set to end at 12 so after our goodbyes etc we'll probably get out of there around 12.30ish - we've been toying with going off to a hotel that night for our wedding night, but realistically we won't get there till around 1am and in the morning we'll be heading out around 10.30am to my mum's place as we're having a family only party. When we go home to visit we stay in my old room as I have a double bed, and we're now thinking that there's not much point in paying for a hotel room when we won't see much of it or use the hotel facilities, so maybe we could just go back to my mum's house (where my younger brother also lives).

Or, I've found a guest house that's literally 15 mins walk from my mum's place, which is in a lovely leafy area and is only 70 for the two of us with a cooked breakfast - so now we're thinking we might stay here for the wedding night - but, as it's so close to my mum's house anyway, is there any point? Arghh!!

    What would you do?

P.S. we can't go back to where we live for the night, as we live in Bristol and the wedding is in Liverpool!

Hmm, I'm not sure as we are having same issue - we finish at midnight and are having a family lunch the next day... to be honest I think we will go home and relax in our own bed!! x

    Here comes the bride......

As it is your wedding night I would suggest a night alone in a hotel / b&b/ guest house, giving you some alone time, sounds perfect!!!

I would go for the place that's 15 mins from your mums. Even if it does seem pointless to you it would be nice to spend a couple of hours together, just the two of you as your minds are both probably going to be whizzing around constantly trying to take everything in. It then gives you that few hours to 'get used' to being together as a married couple!

I reckon staying at hotel, b&b, guest house too so that you get your own time together to reflect on the day you just spent together :)

Maybe the best thing is to contact the guest house and explain your situation. See if they can help you somehow x

Just talked it over with H2B and a way out of the pickle could be I stay there the night before with my BM, and get ready there as mum has already had a bit of a moan that she'll be finishing off the cake first thing and isn't too happy with the thought of the extra bodies in her house such as videographer, photographer, hair and makeup etc! That way I'll have the keys already in time for the wedding night - will have to talk it over with mum this weekend first in case she thinks we're excluding her now but I think this may be a solution!

That's a great idea. I'd def say go for a hotel, guest house, whatever, just not your family home! x

Great thanks ladies, think I'm happier with not staying at home either as not only will it be our wedding night, we're not exactly kids either as we'll both be 33 by the time of the wedding!! :-)

I recently went to a wedding that was in a marquee and it ended at 12.
The bride and groom were staying in a local hotel as were a lot of the wedding party, and it was honestly lovely to all go back to the hotel together and a few drinks in the residents bar, it gave the evening guests time to chat with the bride and groom, and it meant the night didn't end to early :)
So for that reason I vote hotel :)
