CommentAuthormrs pinkalice
its best to stick to generic things if your having a set menu so more people will like what you've picked. we're having a choice menu of: starters - potatoe & leek soup, prawn cocktail or chicken skewers, mains - chicken wrapped in parma ham, salmon fishcake & salad, a vegetarian option not confirmed yet, deserts - sticky toffee pudding, summer fruits in brandy snap basket and vanilla cheesecake. Our venue didnt have set menus so we just trawled the internet looking for ideas, all i knew was i didnt want a roast as most people eat that every sunday x

We are having 3 courses: Starter - Salmon and prawn roulade Main course - Pork Pudding - Profitaroles Plus veggie option for starter and main course. If your venue is flexable then just pick the food you and ur H2B enjoy, you can find yourself picking what you think everyone else will like,at the end of the day your paying for them to eat its your decision :) x

I went to a wedding at the weekend. They had tomato soup with croutons to start, chicken in mushroom-y sauce with veg for main and profiteroles for dessert.
It was all lovely, and most people at our table ate everything on their plate! (Although I did have to eat my H2B's mushrooms..)
CommentAuthormrsjones
We are having a carvery! yum yum
CommentAuthorkem
haha i went to a wedding that had steak and wild mushroom sauce was gorg, but h2b hates mushrooms. he thinks there out to get him its quite funny. so nothing with mushrooms us lol x
CommentAuthorMrsDaviesToBe
My dream has always ben to have something like fish and chips with mushy peas followed by an old fashioned desert trolley with loads of lovely puddings! We havent booked anything for our day yet so I think finding a venue that will do that will be pretty hard!

Ooooh, ostrich is yummy!
I don't know what to choose, H2B wants duck but not sure the fussy eaters will like that as some people think they are cute, not food!
CommentAuthorvintage lass
Ostrich!!!!....oooh Id love to try!!!!!
Im having soup for starter, turkey and ham dinner and pavlova for dessert xx
CommentAuthorCowChop
We're going to our favourite Thai restaurant for ours... a bit unconventional but very yummy#1
CommentAuthorMrs Sazra
We have our tasting on Monday and are trying: Starters- Wild mushroom broth Capricorn goat's cheese crostini (veggie option) Trio of salmon
Mains- Chargrilled rump of lamb Roasted corn fed chicken breast Chargrilled aubergine, courgette haloumi stack (veggie option)
Desserts- Rich white and dark chocolate cheesecake Individual strawberry and clotted cream pavlova Lemon and lime creme brulee
Out of those we will get the veggie options for those who need it (ie, me), and I'm thinking mushroom broth (as long as no one comes near me with it!), chicken and the strawberry pavlova. But Monday will tell all!
CommentAuthorNicci

We have decided to skip the starter. We are having a carvery with 3 different meats, then either cheesecake or fudgecake for pudding.
In the evening we will be having bacon and sausage sandwiches late on.

CommentAuthorLisa"n"Iain
Thanks pinkalice and suzi - we just wanted to stick with a choice of food which we know our guests will eat- no point in having "posh" food coz it wouldnt get eaten-lol. Iain (the groom) and best man are having burger and chips-lol-im having chicken dinner- or maybe a burger- just need to have lots of bibs on hand lol. i think me in my georgous dress with burger in hand will make a fab pic lol
CommentAuthormrs pinkalice
that was my thoughts as well, thats why i've chosen fairly safe options. There's no point in paying for food if no one is going to eat it x
CommentAuthoryvonne
we're having hot smoked salmon salad starter, then soup (not sure what kind yet) then chicken breast stuffed with asparagus wrapped in parma ham, fondant potatoes cauliflower and broccoli mornay, and for desert, i think we're having strawberry tiramasu.
the foods quite important for me as i'm a chef, so i know everyone will be wondering what their going to get for the meal. xx

My venue let me choose (within reason - no caviar and blinis and the like!) so this thread is all very good inspiration for me x
CommentAuthorKatie
Our venue had a set menu so we don't get to chose but its tomato soup for starter roast chicken dinner for main Choc fudge cake for desert Whats not to like so I wasnt at all bothered we had no choice it took another thing to worry about away from me but the wedding planner said thats what most people went for anyway.
We are having a set buffet for the evening guests as well so no need to think about that either :-)

CommentAuthornewmrshartley
we havent decided yet, just started ruling out stuff we dont want. he doesnt want cabbage, random lol! but he does want asparagus! i want chicken, and need a vegie choice as bm and my sis are vegie! and anything chocolate for dessert, though he doesnt like chocolate so may need a menu with two options. ask what your venue is able to do and work from there, no point getting upset later cause you cant have what you have set your heart on :)
CommentAuthorKizzy81

We didn't wan't usual wedding type food, because every wedding we have been we have always been hungry or just not liked it. so we wanted something different. So we thought "what does everyone like and fills you up?" answer? FISH AND CHIPS!!!
So, no starter, just canapes and drink in the hotel gardens. Main - Found a fab caterer who brings their own fryers and are cooking us 120 traditional Fish and chips and Mushy peas (Fresh local fish too) Dessert - 2 Chocolate Fountains (one milk choc and one white choc) with 15 things to dip Oh and a slice of Wedding cake.
Mmmmmmmmmmmm, no complaints from anyone me thinks.......

If we get a cancellation Dove, the empty seat is yours :)
CommentAuthorNuttytart
JAYMMZ I thought about that cos that will fit in with my beach theme.. don't think most people would be best pleased. I'd be happy with it.
CommentAuthorjaymmz
Nuttytart why wouldn't everyone be pleased? I recon everyone secretly wishes they were having fish and chips when they go to weddings ha ha! We are trying to keep it fairly posh by serving it off of China, and so far everyone we've told love the idea. How funny, we are now having a kind of beach/seaside theme too! :)
CommentAuthorMrs (Dove) Pidgeon
Hey Jaymmz- i know my bridesmaid would kill me- she has a phobia of fish so severe it includes fish fingers!!!
