Hi, I've just booked my wedding! But I don't know what legal things to do now or how to do them. I know that I have to give notice but I don't know how! Do I just ring up and say I'd like to give notice? Or make an appointment? I really don't have a clue so any help here would be great! Also, are there any other things I should know? Thanks xx

We are using a registrar so Once I booked my wedding, I called the registry office and they sorted it all out for me, our date is booked and I will hear from them nearer the time to meet our registrar and then arrange to put our notice in etc xx

If you call you local registry office and ask to book a appoiment to give notice. They will ask for you and you oh to come together and bring your passport or prof that you are able to live in the uk, a prof of address and if you or you oh have been married before they may ask for divorce papers (I think). I was told I could do this a from 1 year until the wedding date and up to 28 days befor the wedding. So you have plenty of time. Xx

Are you having a civil ceremony? If so you will need to book a registrar first - you can do this by phoning the local authority wherever you are getting married. For example I live in Swindon but am marrying further afield in Wiltshire, so I had to book our registrar through Wiltshire Council. If you are unsure just ask your venue and they will be able to give you the correct contact details.
We paid £35 to secure our date and have been told to give notice between 18th June and 18th August this year, although all authorities are different. It's best just to speak to them and get all the info you need :) we will be paying £35 each to give notice as well which I think is fairly standard.
You can give notice through your local council :) x

Just give your local registry office a call. Unless you're having a CofE ceremony the registry office will talk you through everything you need to do. I was surprised at how straight forward to do and we had a Catholic Church wedding outside of the parish and registry area we live in.
