Hello everyone, not a rant but just needed to get something off my chest. So this weekend was my sister wedding, whilst we are not close I was very happy for her and although hated my dress etc I smiled and just all the jibes etc go as it was her day.
Now my wedding is the next family wedding and I know everyone will compare as that is just what my family is like. She spent £25grand and literally hand bands, djs, hog roast ice cream van and so on. They were all saying how she had thought of everything.

Im now panicking that mine wont live up to expectations! I know our wedding will be 'ours' but will people now expect that level of entertainment? We have a magician after the service for the drinks reception and a photo booth at night (which she also had) but we cant afford a live band or anything like that.

So juzt looking for advice really, what would you do? ???

Its your wedding hun and will be the way you want it, not everyone needs to spend £25 grand to have an amazing day you will have your own personal touches and if anyone says anything I would kindly remind them you are not your sister. If you went for all the things your sister had then they would just accuse you of copying anyway. I wouldnt worry yourself about it hun and just plan your day to the way you and your h2b wants it not just to please others xx

    31st August 2013 I became Mrs Carrick
Cant wait to do it all over again in 2018

Brilly said exactly what I was thinking hun. It's your day so have what is special and unique to you! People should not judge or comment in a negative way, if they do then shame on them! They should be happy for you and h2b for having a special day for you xxx

I think Weddings are something that are compared, we have all probably done it ourselves however, Your day is exactly what it says on the tin, YOUR and YOUR H2b's day! Have as much or as little as you want.

If people don't like it tough! They should feel lucky to have an invite....family or not!

I've been to so many weddings and thought I personally would not do this or have that and would do it differently but I always see exactly how it reflects the bride and groom and that's what makes the day special and perfect for them!

Wedding is something that comes once in a lifetime. If you have penny and you are still saving to save for future then that is wrong. Try to make your wedding memorable, if have goof finance back up.

my budget is £3000 pretty much everything at my wedding will be home made by me my dress i from the bay as are bm dresses and pageboys/usher/groom and best mans suits. I am totally looking forward to my day i know people will be thinking well its notgoing to be all that for that budget but i dont care i have a 3 ccourse meal for 40 guests and pasties for 150 evenig guests, then i will be making cake trees , scones , cheese twists and those type of nibbles the day before as my evening venue has a kitchen im allowed too use and to be honest i love all my things made my own flowers , will make favours etc but the very best part of it for me is i do not have any guilt about spending money i cant afford :) i have not put myself in debt and i have not let my kids go without anything in the saving process. It must have been lovely for your sis to have that kind of money but i like the personal touches and not just throwing money at it . i bet your day will be equally as lovely in a different way and as long as its special to you and your h2b then what it cost makes no difference :)

One BIG day will lead to lots of little happy days !!

As the ladies have said, it's your day so don't worry about what anyone else thinks. All that matters is at the end of it all you're his wife and he's your hubby :) xx

    To the above

I completely agree, oh my word £25,000 on a wedding, wowza, to me that is a massive deposit on a house, or a top of the range brand new car!!!! eek

I am doing a lot of mine handcrafted, my save the dates, all the invitations, the bouquets, buttonholes etc, my dress is my big spend, along with the venue etc, but I am making my own candy station etc.

Its all about you and your future H2B hunny, stop worrying about what others will think and try and concentrate on what you guys want xx

The most expensive weddings are not always the best! As long as the day is how you and your H2B want it to be then it will be perfect! xxx

It's your wedding hun; I've known people on here to have a wedding under five grand and have had an amazing day; guests included. You do not live up to any expectations; you can send £5,000 and have a brilliant wedding or you could spend £25,000 and still have a brilliant wedding :)

25k just seems such a lot, I know someone who got married and I knew she spent a lot but all the day all I could think was I don't know where they've spent the money! weddings were the little touches that relate to the couple are much more memorable in my opinion hun! don't stress yourself out and just enjoy your planning and your day :) xx

I think you are worrying unnecessarily. People won't compare it and even if they did, it wont be negatively!

Everyone has different budgets and what you do with the money you spend on yours may be better value, and more creative and far more meaningful than just throwing loads of money at it and wasting money that could be used for the future lives together. Sometimes there really can be too much!

    :) You'll have a great day!

It's your day and no one elses, you do your wedding to how you and your hubby expect it to be..
Unfortunately all families are always comparing to others, but it's how you and your hubby want it to be that's all that matters.
To me I think 25 grand it too much to spend on a wedding.
Either way you both will have a great day.
