Thanks Sijen, I was just wondering as I'm doing the catering, the flowers will be here b4 the end of the year as they are wooden roses and I'm doing the cake as well! Car will probably be a taxi, so it's just the church, venue room hire and dress which was cheap (but will cost alot to replace at short notice, granted!) xx

OK so decided today would be the day I eventually sorted our insurance, and i must admit I am completely at a loss! What key points should I be looking for? Obv cancellation cover is paramount but is there any other points I should make sure are included or any loop holes I should be aware of? I see the genereal consesnus on UKB is with E & L, but it seems the reveiws aren't great, then theres debs, which is more exspensive but doesn't cover medical conditions (*not entirley sure if that means medical conditions that cause you to cancel wedding, or just in general :/) or cancellation due to redundancy. As you can tell I'm a bit fuzzled up at the min, so any further advice would be appreciated.
Although I did get a little chuckle to myself when reading E & L's policy coverage, when it said you are covered for £500 towards counselling should you be gilted, very considerate me thinks!

I also need to sort insurance but don't know if i need to pay more as h2b is in armyand deploying next year to afghan and there is a higher risk of him getting injured/killed than another job.
CommentAuthorRoxy
Well I'm currently trawling through the terms and conditions of E & L and I noticed that they cover bride/grooms that in the armed forces hun, maybe worth checking them out. do you want me to post thier website onto your wall?

Hey Hun, I've just lost £1000 from the deposit on my dress as the company I was buying it from have gone into liquidation, if I had the wedding insurance which I have sice bought it would have been covered but as I didn't have it when the shop closed I have now lost the full £1000! If I were you I would Definately go for it, you never know when something like that can happen!!

Hi Holly did you pay for any of your dress by credit card if so you would be able to claim the money you paid from your credit card company x

Linzi-jo...thanks for the link on my wall....have sorted the insurance with them....happy now xx
I have cover with E & L and i am so glad that I did, I was in the same boat as Holly, affected by the same shop closing but luckily have been able to make a claim for my dress deposit. When I called to take out my insurance they said that any deposits already made under £1000 would be covered. I would tell any new bride to be to make sure they had it, you never know what might happen.

Hi Jenny, how did you find E&L??? My friends all told me to cancel as they are notorious in the countryside circles for not paying out for claims on horses etc. I still have a week where I can cancel, but if you think theyre ok, then I'll just leave it..... Any feedback much appreciated x x

Hey Tori no unfortunately I paid cash so my only option is to go through the liquidators which is unlikely to be sucessful :( x

Oh hub im gutted for you. I think you need to write the money off and if you do get anything consider it a 'bonus'. Can you get in touch with the designer see if there is anything they can do to help? X

Izzy so far they have been really good, I asked how quickly they would pay out and she said as it Wedding insurance throught the BBRA they try to pay out as soon as possible and as long as I had the receipt and all letters from the liquidators there wouldn't be a problem. I queried with them whether there would be a problem because the policy was in my name but my mum had paid the deposit that I was claiming back and she said no it would be fine and they said there would be no excess to pay on it either. So, so far so good. I am filling in the forms this evening and sending them off so I will let you know how I get on but for the £27 I paid, they have saved me so much money.

I am a insurance claims manager and a B2B, there's a couple of things which may help people below as it can be a really confusing purchase , but one I would most definitely suggest having. In the recent economic climate many venues and suppliers are struggling , by taking out the insurance you will protect your own finances should the worst come and potentially save your special day.
1. All insurance polices have loop holes, you will not find a policy which covers you for things which are your choice or could be avoided, a good policy however will clearly outline what you can / can not claim for prior to purchasing their policy. Look out for #'Key facts sheets which outline each policy.
2. Most household insurance polices will increase your standard cover by 10% for 1 prior / post your wedding and or religious ceremony to allow you time to correctly insure anything necessary in full.
3. Use comparison websites, they are better at showing exactly what you are getting in one place - ensure that you take the excess into consideration, its pointless taking a cheaper policy if you know you will struggle to pay the excess should an incident arise. I would also check that deposits paid prior to the policy being taken out would be covered, most will cover up to a certain amount - some will cover any made.
4. Don't pay the world for it - a insurance policy is very often the same even with different providers. I have seen on some of these threads people paying hundreds of pounds for a policy , its not necessary.
I know people have seem complaints on some of the insurers, but this is the case on any insurance policy = unfortunately some one some where will have had a claim turned down , maybe because they have not done their research and then they share that bad experience with everyone - people are more likely to share a bad experience than a good one !! xx
