    Hello,

Has anyone managed to arrange insurance for a home ceremony (not the legal one) and reception?

We hope to have the whole thing at home in the garden, but it's not quite big enough for the tipis so our friendly neighbour has offered us the use of the field next to our house, which means we can use both. We plan for the wedding party (about 40 people) to be there from Friday to Sunday and the event to be on Saturday (100 people).

It's still classed as a wedding so ordinary event insurance won't cover it, but I can't find a specialist insurer who'll cover the wedding in a field, even if we get a rental contract from the farmer. Our Home & Contents insurance covers the garden, so it's cancellation & rearrangement, supplier failure and public liability that I want covered.

    Any advice gratefully received!

OH gosh, I am sorry, I have no idea. Have you tried talking to different insurers to see if they would cover it or not without just looking at what they offer?

Yes. I have spent hours on the web and the phone - 0844 numbers are the bane of my life - to various standard wedding insurers and to my own home insurer.

Surely we're not the only people in the country to be planning or to have a wedding in the garden?

Definitely not. Silly how theyw on't cover it yet so many people actually do their weddings this way.

Can you not chat to an insurance advisor they might be able to point you in the right direction, our life insurance was done as part of our mortgage so they did all the leg work and they get paid from the company so shouldn't cost you anything xx

Could it somehow be covered as part of your home insurance if you increase your premium?

It seems mad that nobody has been able to point you in the right direction though out of the ones you have spoken to.

Sorry I just re-read and seen you've already spoken to your home insurers.

I agree, it seems ludicrous no one can point you in the right direction. Surely this come up lots of times before, I thought it was fairly common...

Emily was referring to the big department store beginning with a D... you're not allowed to write names on the forum so that's why it has been disguised :)

Ok, I have had some success.

I got a normal wedding policy (provided they will do this) - I used [link removed] I did have to arrange it by phone, not online.

However, the public liability section, although included, will not be valid, and you can't have personal accident cover either.

The I got public liability through [link removed]

Now all I have to find is personal accident, and that might be covered by travel insurance, as it will be for at least three nights.

Hurray! I hope this helps someone else.

LINKS REMOVED AS NOT PERMITTED ON THE FORUM, PLEASE ADD THEM TO YOUR WALL.

Glad to hear you've sorted the liability and wedding bits, but who is it you actually want the Personal Accident cover for? I was an insurance advisor, so just wondering if it's actually necessary. xx
